"Mati, what are you doing here?" My best friend Ellie asked. " Took you long enough Ellie. You said you'd be here in half an hour 2 hours ago," I said giving my best friend the death stare. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I feel asleep right after I sent you that message. I literally just woke up 15 minutes ago and I came straight here. Anyway stop avoiding the question. Why are you here in the canteen and not in the library, where you said you'd be?" She asked, returning my death stare. " You and your uncanny ability to sleep whenever and wherever," I said rolling my eyes," But if you must know, I'm on a lunch break from studying." Ellie gave me a pointed look. " It's 10:15 and you're on a lunch break?" " Ummmm, it more like brunch really. You know how it is. Budapest was complaining so I had to come and get something to eat." I said refering to my stomach. Yes, I named my stomach Budapest. Don't judge me. "You and your uncanny ability to eat all you want and not be the size of a house," Elli shot back.
We made eye contact for 3 seconds before burst out in a fit of laughter. "Okay let's go get something to eat and then go study. I really need you to explain all the work to me," Ellie said to me while urging me to get up. " You had me at food," I said giving her a lopsided smile.
After finishing of my deluxe chicken sandwich from Sizzler's, it's this delicious double layer toasted sandwich with fried chicken breast in a sauce ranging from lemon and herb to extra hot and chips with a special chip sauce for only R30 - filling and not heavy on the pocket my kind of meal, and Ellie finishing her chicken salad from the student conner we headed to the library.
"Let's go to the main library," Ellie said as we got up. "Ellie that library is going to be full now," I told Ellie. She rolled her eyes at me, " Mati everyone in the library should be coming out now for lunch. " I rolled my eyes at this, " Okay if you say so." We walked up the stairs to library tagged in with our student cards and climbed up the two flights of stairs to the first floor of the library and where the computer lab was found. Ellie looked around on the one side while I looked on the other side. The library was full and stuffy. The only available computed were ones that weren't working. Even the four discussion rooms were full. I shot Ellie a knowing look. " I know I know you were right, I'll get you something from the vending machine outside to make it up to you." I kept quiet as we made our way out of the library. Just then both our phone's chimed. It was a message on our group chat.
Stuie: Hey guys anyone on campus?
Ellie: Hey Stuie! Mati and I are on campus, where you?
Stuie: Just got in at the main entrance and you guys?
Ellie: We just left the main library and are on our way to the vending machine inside CB building, meet us there?
Stuie: Sure, see you there.
" I didn't know Stuie was coming in today, did you?" I asked Ellie. "No I didn't either but now that he's here he can study with us." She had a point there, plus Stuie was great company so it's not like I'm complaining.
"Okay so I'm getting myself a pack of sweet chilli lays, I'm guessing you want a pack of caramel popcorn right and should we get Stuie something while we're here?" Ellie asked me, just as I was about to respond a voice piped up behind us, " That won't be necessary." We turned around to see a tall skinny boy with a head of shoulder length, brown, curly hair that was tightly tied back onto a low ponytail. He was dressed in a white with tiny, navy blue polka dot, button down long sleeve shirt that was tucked into a pair of navy blue dress down slacks. He paired the outfit with a pair of brown dress shoes, a matching brown belt and a maroon tie. "Stuie!" , Ellie said giving him a hug. " Hey Stuie!" I said also giving him a hug. " What's with the get up?" I asked questioning he's attire. " Oh I had a internship program interview earlier in Sandton," he explained. "Ooo fancy," Ellie said she then proceeded to ask him " How did the interview go?" " I think it went well but I'll have to wait and see if I got in," Stuie responded. " I really hope you get in Stuie! Not that I don't enjoy your company and all, but what are you doing here?" I asked. " Oh yeah. It worked out cheaper if I Uber from Sandton to wits and take the bus home," Stuie responded. " Oh that makes sense," I said giving Stuie a smile. "And you guys, what are you doing here?" Stuie asked us. " We came here to study, but WW is full so we're looking for another computer lab we can use," Ellie told Stuie. " I was thinking the lab on 3rd floor Senate house, but that might also be full now." I told them both. " Let's just go check it out to see if it's not full. You never know," Ellie said. " Yeah let's go and see," Stuie said agreeing with Ellie. " Okay fine, let's take these stairs though. It will be faster." I told them. We proceeded to climb the four flights of stairs that took us to the second floor of central block building, walked along a passage way and up four stairs to the third floor body senate house building. " How was that the quicker options," Ellie asked while catching her breath. I don't blame her that was quite a bit of walking we had to do. " You know the elevators in Senate House take forever" I said giving her a pointed look. " I've never taken this way before," Stuie said. " Oh yeah not many people know about this so it tends to be an empty way to get between the two buildings, " I said.
We tagged into the library with our student cards and made our way in. The library wasn't has full as I had expected. We made our way from computer row to computer row to find a set of three computers that worked near eachother. We found them in the front row, closest to the printers. The computer I had ended up at was a glitchy. The reflection of the letters left a shadow like glow on the left hand side of the letter. The result of this was when you read words, it looked like someone had smudged permanent marker writing, or paint. Normally, I would have gone to another computer, but this time (not wanting to be away from my friends) I sat and logged into the computer. I made a move to put my flash drive into the computer port, when I found one already inserted. I looked around and followed the wiring of the computer back to the hard drive to make sure it was for my computer. I looked around to see if anyone else was on their way to the computer in a rush to take their USB that they forgot. No such luck.
" Someone forgot their USB here," I said aloud. Both my friends looked over to see the USB. " And right before finals week," Stuie let out a short sigh which soon turned into a quite laugh as he shook he's head. " Maybe you should hand it into the librarian so he can keep it safe for the person, " Ellie said glancing at the little office of the librarian. " I don't know hey, it's so easy and take some's USB from there, especially a.." Stuie leaned closer with a pointed look at the USB, " a 64GB USB. That won't last an hour there." "I know what you mean, I'm so tempted to take myself, but it's the start of study week and next week is the start of finals, what if the USB is filled with notes that they may need," I said with a sad tone. I know if I left my USB in the library I would like to be able to get it back. All my notes and series are on here. Wouldn't want to lose those now would I. My friends looked at me and rolled their eyes. " Why don't you go through the USB first and then make a decision," Ellie said. " Yeah and in the mean time will keep going through our study notes while we leave you to make your decision," Stuie added, encouraging me to make a decision that I'll be happy with at the end of the day.
I clicked open the contents of the USB and right of the bat I could see a mixture of subjects on the USB, some of them the same course I was taking but at a higher level. I saw some serious, some of which I've watched and others I've yet to watch but have heard great things about. There was a lot on this USB. I finally made up mind on what to do.
