Anouke began to worry. He looked at Lex's wings which were now fully red. His bloodlust had taken control of his body. He saw the streams of veins across the spaces of bare skin on his body as he threw his head back in laughter.
“Ayuna…” Lex rolled his head backwards and then forwards, eyes quivering from the excitement. He grabbed his wrists and threw him to the side, into the trunk of a tree. “I want more of a fight! I need some blood spill, come on. Don’t make this boring for me, you dirty bastards.”
Anouke opened his mouth to speak but no words
came out and he decided that was best.
After
all, Lex wasn’t in his correct mind, right?
“Come
on, all of you! All at once, yeah? Won’t that be fun?” He snickered, shoulders
jerking up and down. The Demons considered this for a moment. “Hey, shouldn’t
we go after that Angel first? Why are you fighting us? Or have you changed
sides?” A female spoke. Lex snapped from his laughing fit and looked at Anouke
from his peripheral vision. For the first time, he was afraid to have Lex look
at him. The crave of blood permeating his eyes with desired screams of terror…
All of his Demonic senses were just crawling back to him.
He
turned away from Anouke to look back at the group, bored. “You’re all
infuriatingly boring.” Lex told them, his retractile talons taking shape of his
usual fingernails. “If you won’t do as I say, I’ll just come and get you.” He
stepped forwards. They didn’t move, standing their ground. “Come on then,” the
only female there said.
“Oh,
I recognize you.” He paused a moment, staring her in the eyes. “Desdemona.”
“Well,
you got my name right. Makes me wonder. Where do you know me from?”
“Well,
I’m surprised you don’t remember what happened earlier in The Angels
Antagonism. But I don’t want to talk about that; I want to hear your cries of
pain right now. Your voice is just annoying.” Lex said and walked closer.
He
gradually closed the distance between them. The remaining four looked at one
another, nodded, and then turned to face Lex again. “We’ll tell Akuma,” Ayuna
whined, pushing himself up from the ground.
“You can’t.” Lex said, calmly
speaking as he knew for certain that they couldn’t. “Look at your hands. You’re
the very bottom rank. Lowers can’t speak to Akuma.”
“Well,
well, the Demon’s smarter than he looks,” Ayuna said. “But we can tell the
Higher ranks.”
“You
guys sure are fun!” Lex cheered. “Let’s fight first. See if you can even still
move your mouth to talk to the higher ups before I thrust you into the ground.
My face will be the last thing you see – my name the last thing you hear.” He
looked up and then back at the four in front of him, then to Ayuna off to the
side, still pulling himself up from the tree, wincing and holding his stomach.
“Stand up, bastard. If you can’t even stand up from getting thrown, how are you
ever going to improve and get into the higher ranks? Hmm?” Lex crept closer to
Ayuna. “Stand up,” he whispered. Ayuna looked at him.
“You
might try to thrust us into the ground, but I’ll drill this fist right through
your skull first, you asshole!”
“That
is what I like to hear! That’s the spirit, Ayuna!” Lex began to laugh
manically. “I do love a spirit of fire. Now, Ayuna… Five against one, or just
us two, hm?”
“Lex!”
Anouke cut through and everybody turned to stare down at him like wolves
stalking their prey low in the grass. “Lex, you need to calm down. Look at
yourself, your wings.” He paused and inhaled, trying to ignore the
interrogative and threatening looks of The Angels Antagonisms members.
“Do
you really want to be a Demon?” He asked, frowning. Lex turned to look at him,
still keeping the other Demons in his view. “I am a Demon, Anouke.”
“Ah,
so your name is Anouke, hm?” Desdemona said, as if proud she found out the
Angels name. Lex became fed up, patience leaving his body. He stepped closer to
Ayuna.
“Why the hell are you so irritating?” Lex asked, grabbing Ayuna by the neck, clenching his hand around to strangulate him slightly. He turned to the other four Demons. “You too. All of you. So irritating. I can just about hold myself back.” Lex carefully put Ayuna down and stared at him with a blank face, no emotions apart from severe anger permeating his crimson eyes. He put both of his hands on his neck and stared deep into his eyes, like he was hypnotizing Ayuna. He turned his hands swiftly and there was a loud crack which boomed out into the forest. Caws of terrified crows escaped, hardly masking the sound as they flapped eagerly out of the trees.
“What
a satisfying sound.” Lex murmured.
“You…”
Desdemona began as Lex crept closer. “I remember you now.” She whispered.
“I
don’t care.” Lex muttered and ran into her, colliding his shoulder with her
abdomen, and she fell to the floor. Lex stepped onto her neck and began
pressing onto it harder and harder. Another two of the Demons charged at Lex,
pouncing on his back like cats finding a vulnerable bird. As they did, they
added more weight onto Lex and his foot touched the ground between the Demons shoulders and head. Desdemona’s head
was clean off. The blood poured profusely, autumn leaves turning red instead of
yellow and brown, as well as Lex’s foot.
One
of the Demons tried biting into Lex’s neck, but his teeth just barely grazed
his skin. Anouke tried to step in, but what could he do? This was a fight
between Demons. A fight for dominance. Lex grabbed the Demons wrist and swung
him around, hitting the other Demon as if the one he held was a baseball bat
and they both fell to the floor. Lex closed his eyes. He struck out his hand
and whispered something. They both died right then and there, a black mist
vanishing as they fell, crippled with looks of terror and pain on their faces
as their veins bulged from their skin. They were all dead. Any other Demon within hearing range would have died from what Lex just whispered - it was a spell just for Demons, a spell to kill them.
“L-Lex…”
Anouke stuttered and they both faced each other.
“What?”
He said calmly as if nothing had happened.
What can I even say? His
wings no longer have visible white scales. This is worrysome. Anouke thought to himself,
pondering on what to do.
“I
don’t like that look in your eyes, glittering like that. What are you thinking?”
Lex questioned, folding his arms. He stared at Anouke. The bloodlust was still
there.
“You
do know I’m stronger than you, right, Lex?” Anouke asked and he nodded.
“Yeah,
so what?”
“Nothing... You
said that eating after being starved gave Demons a surge of power. Is that what
happened just now?”
Lex
shrugged. “Don’t know. Don’t care.”
“You
really are angry right now. Why don’t we go back?”
Just
then, Lex remembered what Dayle had said. Akuma wanted to see him. He needed to
kill Anouke. And right now. “Anouke. Come closer.” He ordered.
“No.”
Anouke refused, not even thinking about the answer he gave.
“Why?”
Lex tilted his head. “Please…”
“I
said no.”
“Ah,
fine then. Ha. If that’s how it’s going to be.” Lex neared him and Anouke
didn’t move. He reached out his hand and placed it on Anoukes neck.
They both paused for a moment; Lex hesitating and Anouke waiting for what happened next. And what did happen was something none of them expected.
There was an Angel. Another one. It kicked Lex and he stumbled backwards. There was another blow and he practically went soaring into a tree. The tree Ayuna had once been. He lifted himself up like he was weightless. “Bastard,” Lex said, rubbing his mouth with his sleeved clothing. “Anouke, what on earth are you doing!?” The Angel asked, looking ecstatically panicked. “Huh? What…?”
“That…
thing- was about to kill you! You just stood there like you were going to let
it happen. What was that about?!”
“I’m
going to change him.” He said with certainty.
“Ugh,
enough with that, Anouke! Demons are Demons, and that’s final.”
“Hey…”
Lex said, a shadow over his eyes as he stood in the distance. “Have you
recently looked at you wings?” He stated calmly. “If Demons are just Demons, then wouldn’t Angels be just
Angels?” He tilted his head. “Yet, your wings are turning red.”
Both
Angels looked at the wings of this new-comer. Lex was right. They really were
turning red. Lex now looked up; wine red, perilous eyes seeming to glow in the
ever-growing darkness. “It’s like it’s ‘piss off Lex day’ today. Firstly, where
the hell did you come from? Why are
you here? And could you please leave before I slaughter another being?” Lex
smiled brightly, though it didn’t reach his eyes at all. His voice was deep and
raspy.
“No.”
Anouke and Lex looked at him. “I’m not leaving my only brother behind.”
“Oh.
Looks like I missed a brother, Anouke. How come you didn’t tell me?” He joked.
“What a shame.”
