But at the time I began working at Happy Acres, I knew none of this. I was young, naïve, and easy for them to take advantage of. Like many young people who love horses, I was willing to do anything to be near them. This was the beginning of the rise and fall and the eventual rise of my story. Of joy and heartbreak, of pain and pleasure. Of shattering into millions of pieces and slowly learning to reforge those pieces into something that will not break again.
