"That was quick" I said to myself putting an end to Stuie and Ellie's bantering. "What kind of a person responds to an email so fast!" Ellie exclaimed, her herself never opening an email unless told to. "You know Ellie, normally I would argue with you on that but I didn't even expect that Mati would get a reply so soon," Stuie said, while slowly nodding his head.
"Guys it's not that unusual for someone to answer their email," I said shaking my head at my friends, even though I did find it peculiar myself that a university student would reply to an email from a stranger so soon.
"Oh come on Mati, you think it's funny too," Ellie said while nudging me in the arm with her elbow. I just laughed and clicked open the email.
Hey Mati
Thank you so much for letting me know you found my USB. I nearly turned my car inside out looking for it.
I really need that USB, but I'm in a hurry. Can you meet me at the robots on Amic deck and give it to me please?
Regards Logan
Just as I started typing my no, I felt my chair move back. I snapped my head to see Ellie pulling my chair at an angle towards her due to the limited space between work desks. I looked to Stuie for help, only to find that he had just sent the person a reply saying that I was on my way. These ladies and gentlemen are the people I am lucky enough to call my friends.
"You know I expected this from Ellie, but not you too Stuie," I said as they packed up all of our things and proceeded to drag me out the library, and after a quick right turn, into the lift. After I had given up on resisting both my friends, Ellie gave me my back pack and Stuie gave me the USB. "You never know Mati, the Logan might be a hot guy asking to repay your kindness with a date." Before I could even formulate a response to that, Ellie chirped in ," and if Logan is a girl you can always show her that warm hospitality of yours that made us all friends." I looked at both my friends as we strolled to Amic deck.
We stood at the intersection looking left and right as cars drove by. It wasn't until the loud beeping sound that signalled that pedestrians could cross sounded that I noticed the black long car that kind of looked like a mini hersh, but it all fairness could also sort of kinda be a mini limousine. Yeah if you squint your right eye and tilt your hear to the left, the car looked like a mini limousine. It was parked of to the left of where we were standing, underneath some trees leaving it covered in shade. There was someone in a pair of dark slacks, that could either be navy blue or black but the shade is making me second guess which colour. He had on a pair of brown shoes and a matching coloured belt. Tucked into he's slacks was a white button down shirt with buttons that matched the colour of he's slacks and sleeves that were rolled up to he's elbows. The whole outfit clung onto he's body showing of just the right amount of muscle, without threating to rip the whole thing to shreds. This man knows how to dress that's for sure.
I don't know why someone would go through that extent to look nice on campus though, I mean is he not dying of heat?
As if hearing my internal question, he ever so slowly wiped the forming beads of sweat from he's forehead and pushed he's dark hair that was falling into he's eyes back.
"Oh honey I could run my fingers through your hair all day long," Ellie said in a husky tone beside me. I snapped out of my trace. "Knowing you, you wouldn't stop at just all day," Stuie said getting a dig at Ellie. As my friends started to banter back a forth I looked at my emails, only to find one from Logan saying that the car was parked under the trees after the robots, facing the direction of the Jorison exist. I should just go up to the the person and ask if they're Logan.
I looked around again and found that the only car that was facing that direction was the mini hersh wannabe limousine. I gulped when I realised that the person most likely dying of heat was Logan. "Umm... hey Stuie. I think you were right," I said not taking my eyes of the man in dark slacks. "Wait what Stuie was .. was... Rig--- you know what Stuie you can have this when," Ellie had began but trailed off when she looked in the direction that I was.
We walked hesitantly towards the the car.
Logan glanced over the crowd of people by the Amic deck before he's eyes focused in on on the trio approaching him. He's eyes glanced over the trio giving them the once over before fixing in on the tall boy with curly brown hair on the far right.
He's stoic look broke in two when he smiled at the approaching group. He wave his hand and when they neared he said looking the tall boy, who was half a head shorter than him on closer look but was much more lankier, " Hey Matty thanks for bringing my USB here for me. Sorry for the inconvenience." He gave Stuie a genuine smell that gave he's sky blue eyes the slightest glint and exposed he's one dimple on the right side of he's face.
Mati stood their in silence and Ellie tried to hold back her laugh which resulted in her having a fit of adorable giggles.
Just as I was about to say something, Stuie interjected, "Hey man... Listen you got the wrong person... I'm not Matty... Mati i-." Before he could finish what else he had to say, Logan flipped like a switch. He's eyes turned a grey colour like storm brewing in the ocean skies."Uggg where is this dude. He should have been here by now. In all honesty I should have gone and taken it myself but I thought this would be more convenient since I'm in a hurry. Now I'm going to be late and dateless. What a day this turned out to be."
Stuie, Ellie and I all raised our eyebrows at the sudden burst.
Logan released a puff of air from he's mouth. "I'm sorry about that guys, I'm just really in a pickle right now," Logan said looking more and more down with each word. " Anyway is there anything I could help you with or did I interrupt you on your way home?"
The tall dirty blonde smiled and was about to say something when the shortest of the trio stepped forward with a USB in hand. "Hey Logan, sorry for making you wait. Here's your USB," Mati said. Logan held the hand extended to him. This was the hand of a lady. He looked at Mati with eyes filled with curiosity. "You're Matty?" He asked her. "Yeah I am, you said you had somewhere to be so we'll be on our way now," Mati said, turning to leave.
Logan still help on to Mati's hand. She turned to try and pull her hand from he's gentle grip. He slowly let go of her hand and looked at her two friends. " I'm going to be late either way. Why don't I take you and your friends to Olive's and Plates to say thank for bringing me my USB?"
"No really it's okay, we did it out of the kindness of our hearts," Mati said. "No, no I insist," Logan said with a determined look on he's face. "Olive's and Plates is pretty expensive, let's rather go to the Café at Origin. It closer and relatively cheaper," Stuie interjected before I could refuse once more. "Don't worry about the price it's on me, so what do you say?" Logan replied eagerly waiting our response. "Well if that's the case, then sure let's go. Mati, you know it's bad manners To turn down free food." Ellie said playing on my love of food, especially the kind that I don't have to pay for. I mean what could go wrong, right? I would still have my friends with me and I get free food. I mean who says now to free food right?
"Great, hop in the car and we'll get going then," Logan said opening the door to he's car for us. I was mildly disappointed at the fact that only the exterior of the car resembled a hersh. The inside was only fine luxury befitting of a limousine. Plush seats lined car with 6 seats facing eachother. Stuie and Ellie sat on the one side leaving me to sit with Logan. "Sipo, change of plays. Can you please take us to Olive's and Plates on West," Logan asked the driver. 'Sipho' proceeded to make a U-turn and headed in the direction of Olive's and Plates on West campus.
Sipo parked the mini limousine. " Baas, if you guys are going to be while I'll go make some phone calls, okay?" " Yeah, no that's fine. Don't for get to get yourself something to eat or drink too," Logan told him giving him a R100 note. " Thank you baas," Sipo replied with a grateful smile.
"I've never been inside Olive's and Plates before, do you have any recommendations on what to get?" I asked no one in particular. "I really like their carrot cake," Stuie said offering up a suggestion. "I think the cheesecake is absolutely to die for," Ellie said with a dreamy look on her face. " Both are good choices, but the carrot cake has pecan nuts it it and the cheese cake has a rich texture that doesn't go well with a cola tonic and lemonade. I think you shortly go for the white chocolate vanilla sponge cake they have here." Logan replied smoothly right next to me.
I slowed to a standstill at the entrance of olives and Plates, my friends to busy arguing about which cake is better up head to notice. "How did you do that?" I asked stating bewildered at Logan. " You never used to like pecan nut in general but especially inside a carrot cake when we were younger and you always said your go to drink at a new place was a cola tonic and lemonade," Logan said nonchalantly as he entered into the restaurant, following the waiter that had lead Stuie and Ellie to a four seater table. I trailed behind with a confused look on my fave. What he had said was absolutely true, expect I gown a tolerance to pecan nuts, I still didn't like them in carrot cake.
I sat down next to Logan thinking over what he just said. Logan ordered a far chocolate tart and a sprite for himself and the cola tonic and lemonade and white chocolate cake for me. Ellie a d Stuie dragged the poor waiter into their conversation on which cake is better.
While there banter continued Logan turned to face Mati. He glanced over her and locked eyes with her unforgettable hazel green eyes. Soft touches of green danced around her pupils swimming in a pool of brown. "Eyes held an oasis in the middle of a bountiful desert," Logan said using the words he had once use to discribe the same set of eyes. Mati turned to face him, curiosity gleaming in her eyes. Before she could formulate anything Logan said with a mischievous glint in he's eye, " Did you really forget me, Leo?"
