1) Q: To Hans, why did you choose the name Helga for your flamethrower?
A: Helga is a beautiful name; it fits so well to such a beautiful girl! And unlike *some people*, she’s faithful and never lets me down.
2) Q: What qualities do you admire most in Percy and Tam?
A: Percy has a confidence that I almost envy. She knows she’s the most dangerous being in the forest. Tam is incredibly adaptable- you may have noticed she was NOT made for hiding in the wild. She learns fast, and she learns well.
3) Q: Do you see parts of yourself in any of the characters?
A: I see parts of myself in all my characters- even the minions. Because I write people and I’m people too. But mostly Tam.
4) Q: What is your favorite scene so far?
A: Oh dear, that’s a hard one. I think my favorite scene is simply the first one. Tam being proud, Percy being herself, the simplicity of their relationship before anything falls on their head.
5) Q: What was your inspiration for the story?
A: My childhood best friend inspired Percy. She was all I wanted to be. Brave, strong, confident, she had THE attitude- and she had beautiful dark skin. I wanted to kind of honor that and see what she would do if there was an apocalypse. I started Snowdrops before COVID and wondered how we would actually react to a global sickness too.
6) Q: Is there someone you hope will read this story one day in particular?
A: I hope everyone will read and enjoy the story!
