Living through a pandemic can cause chronic stress and anxiety, which makes it difficult for the body to relax—it’s always alert and ready. This leads to stress-related fatigue. The Mayo Clinic defines fatigue as “a nearly constant state of weariness that develops over time and reduces your energy, motivation and concentration.” I really hit that wall three months into the pandemic. In the before times, I was an extremely high-energy person; I exercised every day, I worked a full-time job that I loved, I volunteered in my time off. At this point, I could barely get out of bed to go lay on the couch to fall asleep again! All this to say: Be kind to yourself. Take a breath. Get some rest.
