CHAPTER THIRTEEN
The lone Ranger had quickly made his way to the far side of the forest to sit and wait to assist Robin hood, if necessary. Actually, doing quite well at that point, With the assistance of Mr. Chambers lighting and heavy rains, the warriors were having their hands full, the lightening was wreaking havoc with all their electrical systems, and the heavy rans were causing them to bog down in the soft under brush of the forest, The warriors had divided up into pairs in order to cover more ground. Because of the thick canape of the forest, Robin was able to easily maneuver through the tree tops. This way he could easily make his way around without being seen, He had all his traps nicely laid out, and had a bunch of arrows that had the special tips that Mr. Chambers had given him. He would never admit it, but with all the lightening flashing around and the heavy rains, it was going to be a challenge (for even him, the great Robin Hood) to hit the exact mark on the warriors that would cause an overload and shut them down. None-the-less- Robin was not about to risk his reputation and take more than one shot to care for his assignment.
Robin very skillfully picked off three of the sets of warriors, but suddenly, to his great surprise, the rest of the warriors started making a hasty retreat, Robin, not clear on why they were taking this action, managed to get two more pairs before the rest got out of range.
“You fool! You cannot abandon your contract now! What is your problem! Charlie screamed at the Commander of the warrior ship.”
“You deceived us in what we are up against.” The Commander fired back.
“What are you talking about?”
“You failed to mention that the principle one we were to capture has magic powers.” The commander stated angerly.
Charlie let out a long loud laugh.
“I hired you because I was told your race had superior intelligence. I believed you would be able to figure out his technology. I now see your are just as foolish as the other species I considered hiring,” Charlie said in a demeaning tone.
“We were foolish to believe you would tell us the whole truth! Our superior intelligence has led us to do further research. When every bit of our far advanced weapons that were meant to be used on a much more advanced society is being shut down as easily as it is, we have concluded…”
“ENOUGH! Go run, and you better hide. For when I finish, what you failed to do, I will work a ton of ‘magic’ on your entire species!” Charlie screamed, and then shut off the communication channel.
“Are all our warriors back aboard our ships?” The commander asked?
“Yes, including all of those that had been mysteriously deactivated.”
“What about the mysterious field that is surrounding our ship?”
“Commander, I have researched everything I could find on possibilities of breaking this kind of spell, but I have yet to come up with any that don’t pose great risks.”
“Send all your research to me, If I am the one to put this ship at risk, I want to know the details of my options.” The Commander ordered.
Robin Hood waited for some time to see if the Warriors would return. It then dawned on him that maybe they had spotted the Lone Ranger and they were going after him. He made his way threw the tree tops as quickly as he could, but when he reached the edge where the Lone Ranger was, he was peacefully sitting playing a hand of cards.
“And to think I was concerned you might be in trouble.” Robin mumbled.
“What’s up green tights, are you in the need of help?”
“Look masked man, the warriors that were in pursuit of me retreated, taking all there deactivated partners with them. I went as far as their base, and they were all gone.” Robin explained.
“Maybe they got scared off by seeing a man in tights”
Or one to afraid to show his face!”
Before either of then could fire off another insult, Mr. Chambers appeared in their mists.
“That is enough you two. It appears that our robotic enemies logic circuits have been working overtime.” Mr. Chambers commented.
“What are you saying man?” Robin asked.
Mr. Chambers chuckled and shook his head.
“Never mind, it is a long story. You two have done well, and if all else goes as well, we will all be back together again soon at the Round Table.”
Mr. Chambers waved his hand, and Robin Hood, The Lone Ranger, all the landscape, and Mr. chambers were gone.
Charlie was furious.
“I can nor believe those high-tech tin cans would give up, Their circuits must have gone haywire in the earths atmosphere, They actually believe that Chambers has retained his Magic. Fools! I am constantly dealing with a bunch of fools.”
Charlie took a few minutes to calm herself, then marched onto the Bridge and started shouting orders to the effect that she wanted this fleet to divide up into three squads. Two were to serve as support, and the third, which was to include the one she was on, was to land on the surface.
The weapons officer was the first to raise an objection and was the first to experience that Charlie was not all bark and no bite. It took four other officers to pull Charlie off of her. Looking at the Captain, Charlie said in a low growl,
“I trust there will be no more questions, or delays!”
She then left the bridge to return to her quarters.
The Captain and the first mate had been working on a plan “B”, but it was not yet complete, so the Captain slowly proceeded with his new “orders.” He did give a coded order to each of the commanders of the other two squads, and then signaled his squad to prepare to land their ships on his command.
Before the Captain could give the order to start the landing procedure, his ship requested a signal from one Identifying himself as Mr. Chambers to request communication.
“Charlie, you may want to come to the bridge, We just received a request for communication from the one whom you are seeking,” the Captain stated.
“On my way.”
When she reached the bridge, she sat in the Captain’s chair.
“I will speak with him only long enough for you to get a lock on his signal.” Charlie stated.
She took a deep breath and then told them to put him through. Mr. Chambers face appeared on the screen.
“Well Chambers, I knew had gotten older, but I doubted any wiser. However, now asking to surrender might prove to be a wise move on your part after all.” Charlie said with a smile.
“And I must say Charlie that you too are not as smart as you think you are.”
At that all the ships in the fleet rocked violently.
“More Parlor tricks Chambers?” Charlie asked.
The ships rocked again. This time all crew members were thrown to the floor, and al power, other than life support in Charlie’s was lost.
Charlie climbed back up in her chair and looked at Chambers.
“Still can’t bring yourself to kill? I guarantee, I can, and I will!”
“What do you propose?” Chambers asked.
“A one on one, just you and me,” Charlie replied.
“I guess it is about time to settle this once and for all. What about on Xcron III?”
Charlie laughed,
“I am no fool! What about on Lector?” Charlie suggested.
Chambers shook his head.
“Neither am I. What about a natural sight, such as Wingate?” Chambers countered.
Charlie thought about this for a moment.
“Intriguing, yes, I like that spot. Lets meet there in three hours.” Charlie suggested.
“I Agree,” Mr. Chambers responded, restored all the power the ship, and signed off.
“Captain move the fleet to Wingate. Contact the military there and tell them that I am coming, and I want all their weapons put under my control. When we arrive set your fleet in the standard defense position. I will not let Chambers escape this time! Inform me when we have arrived.”
Charlie stormed off the bridge, and all eyes were on the Captain.
“Rita, send Charlie’s message to Wingate, but add to the end to it protocol #7746. Officers, rest assured my obligation is to first and foremost assure the safety and well being of my crew, and if that means adjusting or defying orders that would interfere with that obligation, I have no problem doing just that, regardless of the consequences. Now, alert all ships to proceed to Wingate, pattern Delta 5LW.”
The crew responded to the Captains orders and the Large ships that were once Looming over the earth disappeared.
