The sun was hot after scattered rain showers. Dark clouds come and go. Some pattered on the roof, some just passed through. I put my hat on and headed out for some ingredients for brownies. I needed a block of chocolate, eggs, and white sugar since we have run out in the pantry.
3 pm is the hottest time of the day. No one was out, hiding from the heat, yet I biked under it, without sunblock - I hadn't bought one since I'd run out.
I had eggs in my front basket so I biked like a snail. I was willing to burn my skin off than to go fast on the bumpy roads - I have learned my lesson. I passed through the houses that were filled with people, some filled with emptiness, some big, most were small. And I passed through Martin’s. Their house was nice, bougainvilleas in big pots filled the yard and a gazebo in the center of it. To the left of it was a two-story house, white with a red roof, and a veranda where a young girl (must be his sister) was drawing something. I wondered where his room was, does he have a vast view of the town or a view of the bougainvilleas.
I broke two eggs - one was salvageable, the other was long gone and coated the others in egg liquid.
The brownie smell filled the house and I know that any moment now, my alarm would sound. And it did, both batches look good. I saved one batch for the house, the other I divided into 3 pieces for Cassey, Danielle, and Martin. I was ready but it started raining.
After an episode of the show I was watching, the sun was back out again, now on its way west.
