When introducing a new cat to a house that already has pets, most vets recommend slowly exposing them to each other. Cats can be quite territorial, and getting each pet used to the smells and sounds of the other cat slowly can go quite a ways in helping make the arrival of a new cat go as smoothly as possible.
And, yes, this IS based on a true story...
