At the end of the street there was a woman with a few flowers in hand offering them to people. Despite the extended kindness it was hardly ever accepted and in this day and age that was unneeded. However in Oliver’s eyes it was what made people less human. Escaping his thoughts back to reality Oliver gave the woman a friend smile as Eli let go of Oliver’s hand and ran to her. Eli landed at her feet seeming to want to hug her but knew it would be rude to touch someone without permission.
“Hello!” The little girl said happily just as Oliver got to her side. The woman smiled back, saying softly.
“Well if it isn’t little Elizabeth. How might you be doing my dear?” Eli giggled before showing her book bag.
“Today’s my first day of school! Oh! And I wanted to give you something!” She went and took off the bag before digging in one of the smaller pockets. The woman turned to her, her hands in front of her as she held a flower in her left as she seemed to try and cover the bruise on her right. Noticing this and the dark circles under her eyes Oliver couldn’t help but pity her. I guess none of us deserve such treatment in this world.. Before he could ask if she was okay Eli found the present. “Here this is for you!” Eli handed the small package wrapped in newspaper to the woman. Even before opening it the smile on her face was apparent and seemed to even brighten the marks on her. She went and carefully started to open it, inside was a small wire pendant in the shape of a flower. The woman looked it over as tears formed at the corners of her eyes. Eli seeed to notice and stuttered out. “I- I’m sorry if you d- don’t like—“ Before she could finish the woman dropped to her knees and hugged the little girl. Oliver tensed a bit at this however quickly relaxed knowing his sister wasn’t in any danger. On the other hand Ei just stood stunned as the woman then choked out.
“I love it..! Thank you so much my dear…” It took a moment to process but soon Eli hugged her back with a slight squeak in her voice.
“You’re welcome!” After a little bit of time the woman let go of Eli. She turned and got a bit of ribbon as she affixed the pendent to the ribbon. She outstretched it to Eli and asked sweetily. “Could you help me?” Eli nodded and took the ribbon as the woman bent down, turning around. Eli put the ribbon around her neck making a small bow in the back. The woman smiled and got up touching the pendent gingerly. The smile she had never left as she then put a flower in Eli’s hair. “For you..”
“Thank you!” Eli said almost immediately. Oliver nodded and noticed the time as he took Eli’s hand.
“We need to get going now.” Eli looked at Oliver and nodded as he turned with her walking away. However before they got far Elie turned and waved to the women.
“Good bye!”
