Lysithea sat beneath the blooming tree outside of the graveyard. She had lit a candle which burned brightly through the nightly darkness. She had figured that the best place to be able to see the vampire was together with the nightwatch.
Evander stood beside her, his eyes lingering over her features as she turned a page in the heavy book before he turned his gaze into the distant woods and let out a loud yawn.
"This job couldn't be more boring! And you're really not helping, little Lys." He said, nudging her gently with his boot. She looked up at him with an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry Evander, I got-... got caught up in my reading." She gently closed the book and placed it on the grass next to her. "How have-... have you been?"
"Bah! Boring, boring. You’re so lucky you don’t have my job, or any job for that matter… What are you reading?" He shuffled in his boots and corrected his tabard while looking down at her. Lysithea placed a hand over the tome and smiled faintly. She moved her knees, pushing them together and placing them sideways in the grass.
"It's a book on Rosas' history is-... is all. I know so little about this place so I thought I should read up on it."
"You want to find information about vampires don't you?" Evander smirked towards her, teasingly. Lysithea peered up towards him, blushing slightly. "You know. A cute little Lady like yourself shouldn't go looking for something that dangerous and gross. You're better off staying here with us."
"I just want to-... to ask him questions."
"I know, but doing that will get you killed. He's a night creature, they're not nice."
Lysithea peered into the woods and then towards the people who huddled up around campfires near the cobbled road outside the old rundown church. The night seemed so peaceful and for the first time in a long while the stars were not covered by black clouds. Evander studied her face through the hole in his helmet and let out a deep sigh.
"You know, little lady, you're quite pretty in the candle light. It'd be rather sad to see you go."
Lysithea's eyes darted up towards him and her face flushed with red colours.
Quickly she stared down into her lap and covered her cheeks with her hands.
"Don't-... don't say things like-... like that!"
Evander began to chuckle and crouched down to take a closer look at her. "You blush so easily. Adrian just had to smile at you, I just had to nudge you and now all I had to do was to throw some flattery your way! You're such an entertaining girl to tease."
"It's embarrassing and makes me-... me uncomfortable! I can't handle flattery."
She stared at him between her fingers before quickly trying to hide her face as he continued to laugh.
"Lys!"
Lysithea quickly perked up as she heard Tristan's voice and flew up from her seated position, almost quick enough to catch Evander off guard.
She ran up to the tall man in blackened armour and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"Tristan! Save me, please."
"Save you? From what?" Tristan took a quick look around and as Evander stood back up he raised a hand.
"From me, I think. I was teasing her." He explained.
Tristan looked between the woman who hid her red face against his chest and then at the tall knight in blue. "Oh. I see."
He placed his hands on Lysithea's shoulders to gently pry her off him. "Lys, I've found some information about Dusk for you."
"You did?" She looked up towards him and an energetic smile grew on her lips. Tristan nodded, smiling in turn.
“Wait, you-... you did? How did you know I was looking for him?”
"It doesn’t matter but there is a knight in gold, Evans, who knows of him from before he became a vampire. He might be able to tell you a thing or two."
"Is he around here?" She quickly took a look behind Tristan by tilting her torso to the left. The fighter chuckled.
"He's drinking in the tavern with the other Shahermerites."
"Wait, hold up! The boys are drinking? Without me? How dare they!" Evander almost growled behind his helmet and after picking up Lysithea's candle, blew it out and turned it upside down to let the wet wax pour away. He took her book in his hand and approached them.
"This won't stand!"
Evander placed the items in Lysithea's arms and stormed off towards the Traveling Sisters’ tavern which stood just opposite the church, in between two large oak trees. Lysithea watched him go before she placed her items in her pack, grabbed Tristan's hand and began to pull him along.
“You’ve been looking-... looking for information for me?” She asked carefully as she locked eyes with him and he sheepishly gave her a smile, scratching the back of his head as he turned his gaze elsewhere.
“I just wanted to help you out. You’ve been going down into that crypt so many times and always resurfaced looking so sad.”
“But how did-... did you know I was looking for him? It could have been anyone, couldn’t-... couldn’t it?”
“I suppose it could, yeah.” Tristan glanced down at her again and crossed his arms as he spoke. “I just thought that if I could find something maybe you would stop going down there and spending night after night all alone in that dusty hell.”
They stood in silence for a moment, in front of the open door to the tavern. Lysithea nervously shuffled on the spot, twiddling her fingers while Tristan merely watched her. His faint smile stayed on his lips. After a moment Lysithea looked towards him wide-eyed and a curious smile developed on her lips.
"Finally I might-... might get some answers!"
As she pulled Tristan wobbled at first, surprised at her burst of strength. He regained his balance and followed close by, feeling his cheeks burn as they stepped inside. He watched as she walked inside first, swallowed by the warm and bright light of a burning fireplace.
"Yes… finally you might get some answers." He mumbled, smiling to himself as he wiped his big iron boots on the carpet and closed the door behind him.
