I woke up in a hospital bed. I was alone in the dark room. That’s what I had thought until I looked over to my left. It was Julia, Lapis, and Robyn. Lapis and Robyn were asleep on Julia, Robyn on her shoulder and Lapis in her lap. She was looking at the door in front of her. The moonlight had illuminated their faces. “Julia?” I asked. She jumped slightly and gasped. “Ash, you’re awake,” she said. “Yeah,” I said, grabbing my head. “Don’t… I would get up and help you but… you can see why,” she said, smiling. “Yeah, you should sleep. See you in the morning,” I said. “Fine, but only because you said so,” she said. “Goodnight,” I said. “Goodnight,” she said. I looked over to my right. The table was filled with ‘Get well’ gifts. So was the floor. “What the-?” I said. “Your father went haywire with those gifts,” Julia said.
“I can tell. Surprised he cares this much,” I said. “I don’t know. He may still be upset about things,” she said. “What do you mean? Aren’t you supposed to be asleep?” I asked. “First of all, I did sleep for a few minutes. I’m fine, I had an iced coffee. Second of all, your father is an alcoholic now,” she said. I turned back to her. “What?” I asked. “Yeah, Axel told us that Malcolm started to drink heavily. He would leave to go to his office and wouldn’t come home until noon the next day. Axton and Axel had been caring for Alex and Alexa,” Julia said. “Oh fuck. What time is it?” I asked. Julia checked my phone. “About three in the morning,” she said. “Okay, if you can’t sleep and I've been sleeping for sometime, we can just sit up and talk,” I said. “Sure, if that’s what you want,” she said.
Julia and I sat up and talked about things. When it was about six when Robyn and Lapis had woken up. “Julia, you didn’t wake us up!” Robyn said. “What? You two were practically walking zombies. You guys needed the sleep,” Julia said. “Whatever,” Lapis said, rolling his eyes. “How do you feel?” Robyn said, getting up and standing on my side. “I’m fine. And nice dress,” I said, smiling. It was the dress I made for them on our first date. They loved the dress so much that they never wore it. They had it concealed in a bag in their closet. They hated the idea of messing up “Shut up,” Robyn said, turning red in the face. As I was about to get up, a doctor walked in. So did my siblings and father. “You can be discharged after we run a few tests,” the doctor said. “Okay,” I said.
I passed the tests they had and they let me go. Axel had bought me some clothes. It matched what he and Axton were wearing. Just like the good old times. Mom had dressed us up in the same thing but in different colors. Our favorite colors at that. She loved matching us up since we all looked the same. Axel and I were identical but Axton looked slightly different. His eyes glowed gold in the summer sun and he had freckles. He also was the tallest one out of the three. When we were fourteen, Axel and I were about 5’6 and Axton was about 5’10. I missed doing this. Axel and Axton had a different taste in clothes and we never dressed the same anymore. But I guess today was different since I woke up.
