I got up from the floor, I was embarrassed but I said I wouldn't run away so I stayed.
[Remi:thought] papa didn't make it.
[Markus:thought] I've gotta be the one to start the conversation.
[Markus] so, how was your day
The white bread of conversation starters, it's too basic to fail.
[Remi:thought] Is he really trying to make small talk with me?
[markus:thought] She didn't respond. My white bread's useless!
[Remi] It was pretty bad.
[Markus:thought] I knew I could count on you, thank you bread.
[Markus] You want to talk about it. You share yours I share mine.
[Remi] what, like some kinda sob story trade or something
[Markus] yeah
BANG!
[Markus]Wait, what was that?
[Remi] I don't know
Screams come from the other side of the dance floor. People start running chaotically, some people almost getting trampled in the confusion. There were two men however that didn't move an inch. One of them, a pale, blonde man wearing a bloody suit and the other was the woman Langston had told him about. Ms Williams, her body lying dead bloody on the floor.
Markus Was horrified, his body petrified in complete and utter fear. He had no idea what to do,should he run or hide. Should he risk getting shot to help Ms Williams and what about Langston?
Remi on the other hand, had already sprung into action. She grabbed Markus's hand, and ran. Her father’s restaurant wasn't too far. Once she and Markus made it in she immediately locked the doors and led her and Markus into the kitchen to hide.
Markus slowly collapsed onto the kitchen floor, still in shock, unable to find the breath or even the confidence to speak anything more than incomprehensible murmurs.
Remi was too busy thinking about her father and how he hadn't been home since the morning. She worried if her father’s disappearance and the shooting were connected in some way. That thought was devastating to her, what if her father had died, what would she do without her only family. It brung her to tears.
BANG
BANG
BANG
People were banging on the door outside the shop. Remi immediately grabbed a pan and waited by the kitchen door just in case they got in. She waited there for about an hour and nothing more was heard. Markus was still in shock, and remi too afraid of the people outside in the dark to leave so they hid and slept on the kitchen floor until morning. Markus woke up the next day, recovered from the horror of the night before and able to function. Remi was nowhere to be found.
Markus got up off of the kitchen floor and left the room. The restaurant was intact, but the neighborhood outside wasn't. All the other stores and shops were damaged, windows smashed and the inside of the shops were ransacked for whatever cash or valuables they had.
[Markus] Oh no-
Markus ran back to his own tiny apartment,as he entered the building he saw that it too was ransacked so he raced upstairs praying his valuables were safe, but they weren't. When he got up to his room he saw it destroyed. Luckily he didn't have many valuable items in there except for his laptop.
[Markus] where is it ,where the **** is it
His prized laptop was gone and with it his means of writing as well. He sat on his carpet for a minute with his head in his hands. Until he thought
[Markus] I should go find remi shouldn't I. Oh great, now i'm talking to myself again.

Remi spent the morning helping the people rebuild. Her father never came home but the restaurant still needed running so she ran it. Despite the almost debilitating sadness she felt. She had to move forward. Markus kept working there too. He felt like he and Remi had more of a connection than they did before. And this time he didn't feel like it made him pathetic. He spent a lot of his time with her now. Bruno and Langston kept to themselves for a while until about two weeks during the memorial.

Both Me and Remi stood with the rest of the neighborhood. Some were crying, some just stood there unable to look at the photo of their friend. Langston and Bruno were both in the latter. Remi was still recovering from the loss of her father and so I didn't get why she wanted to come to a place filled with so much sadness. I mean I couldn't even begin to describe the kind of anxiety that I feel just remembering the incident. So later on after we left and went to eat at ramirez burgers I asked her.
[Remi] My papa helped everyone here with their problems. Since he was one of the few with a good business he felt like he had to help his neighborhood. And I guess now I feel the same way.
[Markus]I wish I had that kind of determination. If I was under that kind of pressure I would've just froze or ran away.
[Remi] Nah I think you could handle it. I mean you stayed with me didn't you. Comforted me even when I wasn't that cool to you before.
[Markus] to be fair I did have a very slight habit of slacking off.
[Remi]Slight?
[Markus] yeah,Slight.
[Remi] But seriously though you should give yourself more credit.
[Markus] Maybe.
[Markus:thought] No I watched as person was murdered right in front of me and did nothing. I got so scared I couldn't even think. I was cowardly.
Langston and Bruno walked into the restaurant both with a stern look like they were on some secret mission.
They stop our table. Bruno hangs behind Langston like he doesn't want to hear what he's going to say.
[Langston] Kid there's no betta way to say this so I'm just gonna come out and say it. I know what happened to ya dad.
