The next day, while Roswald was still sleeping, someone stormed into the inn and stormed the room, waking Della in fright and forcing her to flee to the corner, holed up, and cover herself with a blanket.
"Hey, Roswald, wake up already."
"What are you doing? Derek."
"I came to pick you up."
Roswald scratched his head, sitting up, and said, "It's still early in the morning. Why the hurry?"
Derek was taken aback and said, suppressing his anger, "Aren't you the one who called me?"
Roswald gets up from the floor where he sleeps and remembers, "Right, there was that. Wait outside. You're scaring her. "
Derek looked at Della, annoyed, "Tch, hurry up."
Della felt fear from the way Derek looked at her and trembled for a while, then asked, "Roswald, are you going to work?"
"You're aware,"
She went for a pause and asked, "When are you going to come back?"
Roswald became silent for a while after hearing her question, then replied, "I'll be back tonight or maybe tomorrow."
"I see," Della replied weakly.
He looked at her and felt a strange feeling in his chest and said, in moderation, "I'll be back as soon as possible."
"Yes, please take care." She said in a cheerful voice.
He goes out the door and heads down. He saw Derek glare and had a menacing aura. Derek was getting impatient with him being slow.
Roswald ignored him and said, "Let's go."
Derek didn't let go of the matter and asked, "Why were you so slow?"
Roswald stopped and replied, "Sorry, some things came up."
Derek felt frustration, but he let it go and said, "Is that so?"
As Roswald saw Derek still hadn't let him go, he said in moderation, "It won't happen again."
The two go out of the inn and walk through the alley that is a short cut to the guild.
As soon as they stepped into the guild, the receptionist started a conversation,
"Sir Roswald and Sir Derek, you two are here. Please come up right away. The guild master is waiting." Then the two of them followed up the stairs, heading to the office guild.
When the both of them arrived at the office door, the receptionist then dismissed herself. Geld then said,
"You two are here. Sit down and let's begin, shall we?" without wasting time.
The two of them sat down. Without any further conversation, Derek begins appraising the ring. The ring responded to his incantation; it began to radiate light and in that light, an ominous aura formed, revealing the woman who died.
His incantation continued on and became longer and sharper. The image of the mirror continued to show many different scenes. As it goes on, the mirror shows a shadow image of a figure like that of a human.
All of a sudden, Derek's incantation was cut off and he took a minor blow.
Derek breathes heavily and sweats all over, then says,
"I can't take anymore of this or I'll be consumed."
Roswald and Geld were taken aback by his condition in a second. Roswald then asked, "You alright?"
Derek replied, "Yeah, I am." while swiping the sweat off his body.
Out of concern, Geld handed the potion to Derek, then asked, "What happened there?"
Derek accepted the right away and drank it, then replied,
"I was cut off by an unknown force and almost pulled in. I'll do it again tomorrow."
Geld was worried and was suspicious about something from what Derek said. Then he said,
"That's enough information. Go and rest. Thank you, Derek."
Derek was dumbfounded by what Geld said, but he noticed the problem right away and said,
"My pleasure. Hey, guild master, remember my reward."
Geld smiled that Derek understood his intentions and replied, "Yeah, yeah, I know."
Derek then got out of the office and headed down to his room to rest.
Geld looked grimed as Derek got further out of the office, then asked, "What did you think? Do you know who it was?"
Roswald thought for a while, recalled his past memories, and then replied, "I have a clue, but I'm not certain."
"I see. Well, what to do now?"
The two thought for hours, then Roswald suggested,
"What about we straighten the forces in the village in preparation for any danger to come, and from the information I received, I'm guessing that there might be some demon disguised inside the village."
"If what you said is right, we need to look into this matter, but first we should strengthen the forces for now, we're going to have the village chief on this matter," Geld remarked after a slight pause.
"You go and tell him," Roswald said after a moment's delay.
"Me? Hayss, Fine," Geld answered while he scratched his head.
"I'll return to the inn, and if you need any assistance, kindly notify me."
"Right."
After the conversation, Roswald headed down to go back and rest, but instead he went at the quest board and took a look. He got on the board and handed the quest to the receptionist after a long amount of deliberation.
"Exterminating rats at the farm outside the village? Sir Roswald, are you sure you'd take this quest?"
"Yes."
"Please wait a minute sir…. Here it is, blessing you with great success."
"Thank you."
After that, he dashed out of the guild to avoid being caught by him. Geld went to the village chief's house after Roswald got outside of the gate to talk with some of the matters at hand.
Upon arriving at the farm's south gate, Roswald noticed an old man standing by it and approached him, asking,
"Are you Rook? The one who puts out guild requests?"
"Hm? I am, are the one who accepted my request?" the old man responded, looking back.
"Yes, my name is Roswald," he said that as he extended his hand for a handshake.
"You seemed trustworthy, that's a comfort, but if you're the same as the other hunterh, then that's another story, because all they do is just fool about," Rook the farmer replied, examining him up and down.
"Is the other hunter who took this mission playing around?" he inquired, bewildered for a while.
As he remembered the incident, Rook was enraged and yelled, "That's right! They don't do things right! Those damn bastards!"
"What happened to them?" Roswald asked as he stared at Rook, who was blabbering constantly. "
"Of course I chase them off of my farm," Rook replies as he stifles his rage.
"Is it okay if I inquire about the farm's current state?"
Taking a deep breath and gazing at his land, Rook remarked, "Hayss.... My barn is shattered, and my animals and cows have died, as you can see."
"Do you know when the rats normally appear?
"Usually it's night, but they arrive at the early dawn now," Rook responds, surprised by Roswald's forthright query without mending his words.
"I'll do everything I can to get rid of them, but you should take a break, you seemed weary."
Roswald's statements surprised Rook. "I'll be counting on you then," he stated, smiling as he took an interest in him.
After leaving the property in Roswald's protection, Rook returned home. When it gets dark, the ground shakes and forms a bulge, and the rats emerge from the farm and begin eating the vegetables.
They realize the vegetable's hard consistency when they take a bite, and it turns out it was planted by Roswald and was phony.
Roswald plucks all the vegetables from the soil and plants fake ones in the morning after Rook leaves, then hides the remaining cows and goats in the tavern, painting the walls with monster and beast repellent so the rats don't notice and smell them, it was a perfect trap made by him.
The rats were enraged, and they wreaked havoc all over the area, leading them to drop their guard. Roswald begins to move and slays the rats one by one. The rats kept coming incessantly, swarming at him from all directions and engulfing his entire body.
In a moment of time he struggled, and then chanted a fire on his palm, causing the rats to scatter all over the ground, some of them perish, and four of them flee.
At the same time in the afternoon, Geld arrives at the village chief's house. At the time he arrived, Mario was busy all morning and night without rest for a whole week, sorting out all the problems in the village and doing paper work at the same time.
*Knock, knock*
"Sir, someone is here to request your presence." The butler said
"Who is it?" Mario replied, while still checking all the papers.
"He said his name is Geld, Milord."
He stopped for a moment and murmured, "Geld, huh?"
"Milord?"
"Have him come here."
"Yes, Milord, as you requested. Sir Geld, you may come in now sir."
He was surprised as the butler said,
"Sir Geld." He never thought that Geld was already outside his office door and thought in his head, "So he was already with you?"
Geld came in and saw him buried in with many papers, then said baffled, "Hey, you alright?"
Mario put down the paper in his hand and said, "Do I look alright to you?"
"Haha....." Geld laughs awkwardly.
Mario looks at him and asks, "What are you here for?"
"Oh, I almost forgot what I'm here for. I need to discuss something with you."
Mario gets up from his table chair and sits on the couch, saying, "First sit down."
"Oh, right." Geld responded, scratching his head.
Mario reaches out for the tea on the table that was served by the servant and asks, "So, what is it?"
"It's about the issue that we have now in this village, that, uh, we need your help with a small matter." Geld replied with a stern look on his face.
Mario put the tea down and said, "You need to explain to me first about this plan you're on about."
Geld began by describing all of his and Roswald's intentions, as well as tell the evidence and clues they had acquired over the course of a week. They then debate and amend all of the strategies they'll put in place for the village and its people to adapt to.
*Farm Outside the Village*
Rather than chasing the rats as they ran into the earth, Roswald gathered all of the rodent's carcasses and incinerated them all together.
He sets up another trap for the remaining rats to come and retaliate against their dead friends, and then he walks to the tavern to see whether the cows and goats are safe.
Inside the tavern, he concealed himself and waited for them to arrive. The ground began to shake like an earthquake at exactly midnight at one, he utilizes his wide sight to look far. The remaining rats that managed to flee resurface, and there is a monster in the back, a wolf man who intended to be their leader and was about to confront him.
Once they arrived at the farm, they haven't seen a thing. They looked around for their comrade's body and the opponent they were facing, but they find nothing. Instead, there was an unnerving quiet in the air, and didn't think anything of it. He waited for the appropriate time to strike instead of going out and facing the adversary straight away.
The traps he put in the dirt were discovered by the three rats. They approach it with apprehension. Flares shoot out as soon as they touch the trap, completely burning them. "Show yourself human and fight me! How dare you come in between my plans?" the wolf man yelled, enraged.
The rats and animals were frightened. The cows and goats at the tavern began to scream. He decided to show himself since his location was disclosed. "Can't you just wait a minute? Your slaves haven't discovered all the presents I hid for them yet. How disrespectful. Kindly learn some manners."
The wolf man grinded his teeth furiously and said, "You finally showed yourself human. How dare you scold me of my manners? I'll kill you!" He rushed out to Roswald and struck, intending to wound him, but unfortunately, Roswald evaded.
"Is that all you've got?"
"What did you say?! Dare to humiliate me, you mare human!I'll make sure you wish to never exist!"
"You wolf monsters really have no manners. You ravage this farm as if it were your own. I'll eradicate you all."
Roswald and the wolf man began clashing with one another, causing damage to every corner of the farm. "How weak. Are you really a wolf?"
"Don't you dare underestimate me, you damn human!" growled the wolf man, unleashing a black aura into the air that caused the plants around him to rot.
He kept his distance from the wolf guy to avoid being infected by the aura's energy. "Damn, it seems like this is going to take a long time. It's almost dawn. I need to end this soon," he grumbled.
The wolf man's demeanor changed, his body deteriorated, and the black aura he emitted went out of control, shattering him into bits. The rats began to quiver as their leader vanished into thin air, but Roswald pursued them and slaughtered them one by one, not allowing them to flee.
Roswald collapses on the ground after the rat carnage and falls asleep. Rook, the elderly man, came by the next day to examine his farm, but when he arrived, the rats' bodies were all over the place, and the plants that surrounded his farm had withered. In anguish, he said, "What happened to my farm?"
The sound of a wailing guy sobbing near Roswald startled him awake. "Rook, you've arrived..... Why didn't you wake me up? "
"What did you do to my farm?" Rook asks, snot all over his face and wailing incessantly.
Roswald was troubled as he noticed Rook was crying nonstop as he was asleep, "You're farm is just fine. It's just in this condition, but it can be fixed. That's why I didn't leave yet."
Rook stopped crying and became happy as soon as he heard that. "I thought I would be the only one to clean this whole place up. Roswald, you're too kind, huhu."
"You're manners change right away."
"Huhu, you haven't known me yet. Come let us clean. I have many things to do on my farm and I'm guessing so would you, Haha."
Rook handed some of the tools in his hand to Roswald, and they began cleaning the whole place up. The rats were gathered and burned. The fields that were in a mess were fixed into place. The two of them dug the soil to plant a seed. The cleaning took a whole day to finish.
Rook got some beer in his house and implied, "Roswald, come let us have a drink."
"No need, I need to get back. I still have some business to attend to."
"Is that so? Well, that's too bad. Next time then…"
He nodded and headed back to the village guild to report his achievement.
"Sir Roswald, your back? How did the extermination of the rats go? There wasn't any problem?" the receptionist asks.
"Nothing, just normal." He responded with a cold demeanor.
"Oh, right, the guild master was looking for you and is very furious because of your absence. The guild master is in the office now, together with the village chief. Should I inform them of your arrival, sir?"
"No need, I'm going back to the inn to rest. Tell them tomorrow I'll come by."
"Oh, yes, as you requested."
After the conversation with the receptionist, he then headed back to the inn to rest. As soon as he got back, he saw Della down in the inn eating food. Then he asked, "Why are you down here?"
Ramy got out of the kitchen and replied, "She's here because I invited her down since the store is closed and there aren't any people beside us here."
"I see."
To be continued.
