There’s nothing like the feeling of getting a job that you know you’re going to love.
There have only been two jobs that I’ve gotten that have made me dance a jig. The first was when a fellow named Mike called me in Macon, Georgia to let me know they’d chosen me to work at his T-Shirt shop. I was thrilled because I was going to be paid (at least in part) to do Art for the first time.
The second was years later in Kansas City when I got a call from my Pastor asking me what salary I would need to make if he hired me as an Assistant Youth Pastor. After I gave him an answer he hung up. I called the Youth Pastor, David to tell him the news. He warned me that it was only being proposed to the Board… it wasn’t an actual job offer. I hung up glad to know that I was at least being considered and with the knowledge that it might be a year or more before they created the position.
The next morning I went in (I was an intern) and the Associate Pastor says, “‘Gradulations man!” I was at a loss. It was a strange enough thing to say that I could dare to think that he was congratulating me on being hired… but since I had not been hired, or at least told, I dumbly asked, “What for?” “You’re in man!” he says. “They hired you last night!”
I didn’t dance right then… but I assure you I lept about a bit when I found a moment alone.
