Later at lunch Carina and Esme flew over to the lunch line where they ran into their other friend.
"Hey, Rayn!" Esme said, waving to the girl in front of them. She had long blue hair braided in a long braid that hung at her back. She wore a white thin strapped sundress. Rayn had blue eyes and tiny freckles across her cheeks and nose.
"Hey Esme. Hey Carina," Rayn answered with a smile. "I was just looking for you both."
"The weirdest thing happened today," Esme began. “In class, Anemos asked Carina for a test answer and she told him the answer…”
“That’s not surprising,” Rayn said, folding her arms across her chest and rolling her eyes.
“...Then after class, Anemos thanked Carina for telling him the answer!” Esme said, still surprised.
“What?!” Rayn said in shock. “He said ‘thank you’?!”
“Yep,” Esme said, nodding her head.
“Wow. My brother never says ‘thank you’,” Rayn said, in disbelief.
“I know!” Esme said.
“Maybe he has a sweet spot for you, Carina. He’s always seemed to have,” Rayn said.
“But, why though? Especially why me?” Carina asked.
“Beats me,” Rayn said, with a shrug as she grabbed a cafeteria tray and began to fill it with food.
After Rayn, Esme, and Carina got their food and then went and took a seat at a table.
“Anything weird happen to you today?” Esme asked Rayn.
“Nothing that crazy. Damian sat next to me today,” Rayn said. “We talked about our weekends and about family and friends.”
“That’s good. At least your crush is noticing you, mine won’t even glance my way,” Esme said with a sad face.
“Aw. Cheer up Esme. You just need to talk to him,” Rayn said, encouragingly.
“Yeah,” Carina agreed. “Why don’t you talk to him right now?” Carina then pointed at a boy with bright red hair and brown eyes. He had tan skin and wore a black chiton with a black belt around his waist. He was currently sitting beside Anemos eating lunch.
“Right now?!” Esme said, eyes growing wide..
“Yes, right now. He’s not busy right now,” Carina encouraged.
“Alright,” Esme then got up. She began walking over to the red haired boy when he glanced her way. Her whole face went almost as red as his hair.
“Calm down, Esme. You got this,” Esme whispered to herself. She then waved at the red haired boy and he waved back, smiling.
As soon as she reached the red haired boy he said, “Hey, Esme.”
“Hey...Aydan…,” Esme stumbled.
“Would you like to eat lunch with me?” Aydan said, gesturing to the empty seat in front of him.
“Sh..sure,” Esme stumbled while going to take a seat.
Just then a girl with straight white hair and beautiful blue eyes flew into the seat Esme was going to sit in. She wore a blue one strapped dress and a silver belt around her waist with a matching silver necklace and hoop earrings.
“Sorry. This seat is taken,” The girl said, looking at Esme all innocent like.
“Aw, come on, Nova,” Aydan said, looking at the girl with white hair. “My friend, Esme, was going to sit there.”
“Well, now I am,” Nova answered, looking smug.
“Sorry about her, Esme. My sister can be a bit cold sometimes,” Aydan said, looking at Esme apologetically.
“It’s...ok,” Esme said. “I should probably get back to my friends anyway.”
“Oh ok then. I’ll see you around, Esme,” Aydan said as Esme turned.
“See you around,” Esme said, sadly, walking towards Rayn and Carina.
Esme then sat back down next to Rayn.
“So...how’d it go?” Rayn asked.
“It went...kinda bad,” Esme answered, looking sad. “He did invite me to sit with him though.” Esme then looked really happy. She smiled. “But...then Nova sat down where I was gonna sit.”
“That’s good. Also, sorry about Nova. My sister can be cold sometimes,” Rayn said, looking annoyed.
“That’s okay,” Esme said.
“Anything else?” Carina asked, intrigued.
“He called me his friend,” Esme said, smiling again.
“Aw, well that’s a good start,” Carina said, smiling.
“Can’t hurt to be friends first,” Rayn said, encouragingly. She smiled.
The bell then rang. Rayn, Carina, and Esme then got up.
“She you guys after school!” Esme said, waving ‘goodbye’ as she flew away.
“Bye!” Rayn waved.
“See ya!” Carina waved.
“Ugh. We have Physical Education next. I hate Coach Witchner. He’s so mean,” Rayn complained as she flew alongside Carina.
“I know right? But, let’s just think positive,” Carina said.
“You’re right. I mean what’s the worst he's gonna do? Make us do laps for all of class?” Rayn said smugly.
“I mean...he could...technically…make us...do laps all of class” Carina began.
“That’s true...gah! You’re not helping!” Rayn said, angrily.
“Sorry,” Carina said. “Oh look. We’re here.”
They then flew into class.
“Good morning students. Today, we’re gonna do laps all of class,” A big man said, wearing a black chiton and a black witch hat.
The class let out a groan.
“Way to jinx us, Ca-rina,” Rayn whispered, nudging Carina’s arm playfully.
“Sorry,” Carina whispered back.
“You guys can get started,” The man said.
The class flew out to what looked like a big track made of clouds.
“No flying!” The man said.
The class let out another groan and some people started jogging.
“There’s Damian,” Rayn said.
Damian was wearing a black chiton with a black belt and black witch hat. He had dark skin and black shaggy hair with gray eyes.
“Why don’t you go talk to him?” Carina said, still jogging.
“What about you?” Rayn said.
“I’ll be fine,” Carina said, reassuringly.
“You sure?” Rayn asked, concerned.
“I’m positive. Now go,” Carina said.
“Ok,” Rayn said, jogging to catch up to Damian.
A few minutes later, Anemos ran up to Carina.
“Looks like Rayn ditched you,” Anemos said with a smirk.
“Rayn did not ditch me. I told her to go ahead and talk to Damian,” Carina said, defensively.
“You sure?” Anemos said. “You don’t have to lie to me.”
“I’m one hundred percent positive,” Carina said.
“Ok,” Anemos said. “Do you have any plans this weekend?”
“No. Why? You gonna ask me out or something?” Carina said, teasingly.
“Ha! No!” Anemos laughed. “I was just going to invite you to the party I’m having.”
“Where is it? And when?” Carina asked.
“At the Internal Gardens and tomorrow,” Anemos said.
“What time?” Carina asked.
“Eight,” Anemos said. “You can wear whatever. The Internal Flowers that they planted are supposed to bloom,” Anemos said.
“Can Esme and Rayn come?” Carina asked, concerned about leaving her best friends behind.
“Of course. The more, the merrier,” Anemos said with a huge grin.
“Ok. Then I’ll be there,” Carina said with a small smile.
“Sounds good,” Anemos said.
After Physical Education class, Rayn and Carina headed to Ability class to learn more about their powers.
“I saw Anemos talking to you. What did he want?” Rayn asked, flying beside Carina.
“He didn’t want anything. He invited me to a party. He also said that I could bring you and Esme,” Carina said with a small smile.
“Where is his party at?” Rayn asked.
“The Internal Gardens at eight. The Internal Flowers are said to bloom tomorrow,” Carina said.
“Ah. That sounds fun. I’ve always wanted to see them bloom. I’ve heard they’re supposed to be really beautiful when they bloom, like little rays of the sun,” Rayn said.
“Interesting,” Carina said.
“We should have a sleepover after the party and meet at your house before the party too, to get ready,” Rayn said.
“That sounds fun. I’ll have to talk to my parents first, but I’m sure they’ll say ‘yes’,” Carina said with a smile.
“Yay. We’ll have to talk to Esme about it later,” Rayn said.
Rayn and Carina then arrived at class and flew inside to take their seats. Rayn sat in front of Carina in the middle of the class.
“Good afternoon, students,'' A lady in a long long sleeve red dress said. She has red hair that faded to bright yellow that was kept up in a messy bun. She had tan skin and beautiful brown eyes.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Athena,” The class answered.
“Today is going to be an easy practice day,” Mrs. Athena said with a big grin.
"Now for people with Weather powers practice on your lightning storms. Water powers practice your rain storms. Nature powers practice talking to animals. Fairies practice growing plants. Fire powers practice making a fire. Cupid's practice shooting your arrows at the targets in the back. Ice powers practice your snow storms. Witches practice your spells. Now, did I miss anyone?" Mrs. Athena said.
The class stayed silent.
"I'll take that as a 'yes'," Mrs. Athena said. "You may now begin."
Carina got up from her seat and headed to the back of the class where she picked up a white bow with pink hearts painted on it. She then took a pink arrow and strung it into place on the bow. Carina then pulled the string of the bow back and to her chin. She took a deep breath and then let go of the string. The arrow went shooting forward and landed in the very middle of the target and then disappeared, reappearing back into the bucket of arrows. Carina did this over and over again until the bell rang.
"I will see you all tomorrow. Have a great rest of your days," Mrs. Athena said with a smile.
"You too," The class replied.
