Tall grass swayed in the wind as it carried the thick scent of fallen leaves, and fresh cinnamon-butterscotch pie. I looked up at the night sky. It was a dark blue blanket the covered the familiar light blue sky, little holes were poked into it revealing light from the day seeping through. The pale moon stared down at me as I laid in the grass outside of the cabin.
We lived here for almost a year now, and yet, I never seem to stop being amazed by my surroundings. From the tall dark oaks that towered over me, to the crystal river that sparkled in the pale moon light. This is the kind of place where time freezes. This is the kind of place you hear in legends. This place is my home.
When you first come here, you might think this is straight out of a fairy tale. Some forgotten, magical land that maybe fairies have abandoned or perhaps an enchanted forest that no human has dared entered because of the forest guardians. The truth is, I didn't really like being here at first.
I used to live in New York City. Just me, and my three brothers. That's right, A 13-year-old girl and her brothers living in the city that never sleeps. And it wasn't all that bad either. We all went to school, my older brother worked a job as a night guard at a zoo, even I pitched in by getting paid to do chores or babysitting for people that were too busy.
My oldest brother is Jackobi Rose, at the age of 20, he was the one in charge. Jack had short, black hair that was always a mess, small freckles that dotted his cheeks like stars in the sky and bright blue eyes that always sparkled with mischeif. He was tall, strong, and always knew what to say and when to say it. He could talk his way through anything if he wanted too.
My youngest brother is Christopher Rose, He was a shy 5-year-old. He, similair to Jack, had black hair but his was a little more neat. He didn't have any freckles but he did have two different colored eyes, one being dark brown, the other dark blue. He was short, and didn't talk much, especially not to strangers. He always had trouble making friends because they made fun of him for having two different eye colors, but if you got to know him, he is really a friendly kid. He's also the smartest person I've ever met! Sometimes when I got homework he'd help me with the math!
And then there was my twin brother, Prosperity Oceanus Rose, the 13-year-old that seemed to be able to do it all. He...well the name sums it up. He was perfect at everything! He had perfect black hair, perfect dark brown eyes, perfect grades, perfect! I bet you'd think since he's my twin we would be the same? Well you couldn't be more wrong. Well, for the most part. We are both nice and friendly and all that but one of the biggest differences? He's popular.
I bet your wondering who I am aren't you? Well, my name is Cassidy Rose. I have dark purple hair, and dark blue eyes. People always ask me how I dyed my hair purple, but I didn't. I was born with purple hair, just like how Chris was born with different colored eyes. As you can probably guess, I am definitely not perfect, and for a long time I didn't like that. Normally, people my age like standing out, being as different as possible, but I WAS the rare breed of "try not to stick out like a sore thumb". But that was before I figured out who I am meant to be.
Let's start before the begining, shall we?
It all started about 500-ish years ago...
First half of chapter one:
The air was sour with smoke that seemed to sting your eyes and clings to your lungs. A baron wasteland, once a wondrous kingdom, turned to rubble from a war caused by separation, suspicion and revenge. After the King and Queen lost their children. No one truly knows how it all started, or why but there were of course legends, half-truths, to put it simply... Lies.
It was a war of monsters against humans, and after many years the humans have driven the monsters underground. Hidden from site, the humans soon forgot that monsters could exist. As for the monsters, forgetting that humans could exist. But it was better that way, or that is what they say.
In stories, the humans only ever saw the monsters as bad guys, but were they truly bad? They had families like humans do. All of them have emotions, and opinions like humans do. They can make mistakes, and that is the most "human" thing anyone can do! So maybe next time you watch a movie, or read a book with a villain in it, maybe you should take my advice "people are people. Doesn't matter what they look like, they did the most human thing anyone can do! They made a mistake. Some might’ve misunderstood something. They are misunderstood!"
Anyway, This war had effected the world! People trusted each other less, started having there kids inside by a curfew, politics started getting involved with EVERYTHING...which is just plain annoying! Global warming doesn't care whose president! Animals that are going extinct because of humans don't care about whose running for a goverment thingy!
Long story short, Humans should stop with politics and causing problems and start trying to heal the world!
But for now let's hop over to The Big Apple, The Most Busy City, New York City...
"Hey Cassidy, wake up!!! School starts in five, and if you don't hurry we're going without you!" Jack yelled, shaking me awake as Chris was throwing pillows at me, but ended up either missing or not aiming for me because he didn't want to accidentally hurt me.
I slowly woke up, but kept my eyes closed and made the loudest fake snore, which earned a laugh from Chris and Prosperity. I opened one eye to see Jack rolling his eyes at me with a smile. "And good morning to you too, Jack-in-the-box" I said, springing up out of bed, already brushing my hair.
"And the ancient purple snoring beast awakens!" Prosperity chuckled "It must be a miracle!"
"Cassidy waking up before school starts? A true miracle indeed!" Jack laughed as he got his jacket out of the closet. Then he backed up a bit as I grabbed my black leggings and a huge Led Zeppelin T-shirt the was once Jack's from the corner of the closet and walked over to the bathroom to get dressed.
When I walked out of the bathroom to see Chris waiting at the front door, the other’s no where in sight.
"Did they leave us already? I would've guessed that they would wait at least three more seconds" I said as I centered the red cat ears on top of my head before grabbing my blue galaxy backpack.
"don't worry, they're just waiting downstairs in the lobby" Chris said, waiting for me to walk out the front door with him
