Pantanal and Peaceflyt flew back to the house just as the sun went down over the horizon, and Walnut and Pelican were waiting for him there.
“Hey, Peaceflyt! Hi, Pantanal,” Pelican greeted them as they swooped down outside. “How was that?”
“Good,” Peaceflyt said. “Very inspiring.”
Pelican laughed. He and Walnut led them back inside the house. Peaceflyt noticed the cloth that the impalas were on was gone. Melospiza was still reading in her corner, and Atacama, Pyramid, and Sparrow were talking on the mats. Dogwood and Mudpool were playing with what looked like a wooden board game of some sort.
“Hey, Pantanal! You’re back! Want to play this with us?” Dogwood smiled and beckoned him over.
“Oh. Umm...” Pantanal glanced at Peaceflyt. “Yeah, sure.” He walked over to their game, sat down, and grabbed a piece.
Peaceflyt, Pelican, and Walnut headed toward Atacama, Pyramid, and Sparrow and joined their conversation, which was apparently about something Sparrow had seen. The conversation changed topics quite frequently, and they were having so much fun talking that they didn’t even realize that it was eventually practically midnight. Peaceflyt only noticed this when he heard Pantanal and his siblings fall to the ground, asleep.
“You know what, I’m getting pretty tired too,” Atacama yawned after Peaceflyt mentioned that. She slid into a lying position on her mat and within seconds was snoring loudly.
“Did you tell her that we were supposed to share the mat?” Sparrow whispered to Pyramid.
“Yeah, but I don't know if she remembers,” Pyramid replied. “If not, I guess we'll have to wake her up.”
“I guess so,” Sparrow said. “Anyway, I’m gonna go to sleep.“ She laid down on the floor next to Atacama. “‘Night.”
“‘Night,” Pyramid replied, doing the same.
“I should probably get to sleep as well,” Peaceflyt told Pelican and Walnut. Walnut looked half-asleep, but she managed, “Yeah, me too. Goodnight,” before she fell onto her mat next to him.
Peaceflyt and Pelican both laid down on their mats and exchanged goodnights. Peaceflyt was just about to drift off to sleep, when-
“AAAAAAGH!” A sudden burst of pain shot through Peaceflyt’s head, causing everyone to wake up. Pelican and Walnut immediately leapt to their feet.
“THREE MOONS!” Pelican cried. “Are you okay!?”
“What in the moons was that?” Pyramid and Atacama both groggily stood up and looked at Peaceflyt, confused. Sparrow soon followed. Walnut, worried, put a talon on his arm. “Peaceflyt?” she said, her voice wavering.
But Peaceflyt didn't respond. He collapsed to the floor, eyes blank. He couldn't hear anything except for a deafening rushing noise in his head.
“What’s happening? Peaceflyt! Can you hear me?” Walnut asked desperately.
Still no answer. Peaceflyt didn't move- he couldn't.
“Peaceflyt!” Walnut cried again. “Please hear me!”
There was a long silence. Then he breathed in, and an ominous voice unlike his own came out of his mouth.
Hidden away
A lost tribe prevails
If no one can stop them
No one will avail.
Those unexpected
Will take the challenge
That many seek to avoid
If then they fail,
All will be lost
And lives will be destroyed.
The room was silent for a second. Then the color returned to Peaceflyt’s eyes and he heaved in a breath. He got up and saw everyone staring at him, worried.
“Peaceflyt! Are you okay?” Walnut asked as Atacama exclaimed, “What was THAT?”
“Uhh…”
“Um… Peaceflyt, was that a prophecy?” Pyramid asked. “That sounded a lot like a prophecy. Yep, definitely a prophecy.”
“Uhh… yeah, maybe. Give me a second, that gave me a headache.” Peaceflyt laid down again and rubbed his head. Apparently prophecies gave you headaches. That sounds like something Tsunami would say.
After his headache went away, Pyramid continued. “So as I was saying…”
“Uh… yeah. It probably was. A prophecy.”
“You never told us you could tell PROPHECIES!” Atacama exclaimed.
“I didn't know that I could!” Peaceflyt said. Everyone stared at him, so he decided to explain.
“Uh… yeah. So, basically, I was born under the three moons, right? And I'm part NightWing- you could probably tell because of my wings. So that gives me the powers of mind-reading and prophecy. But apparently when I was born, the second moon was kind of blocked out by a tree. So my parents didn't think I'd be able to tell prophecies. I didn't either, but apparently I can, because I just did.”
Walnut looked at him in awe. “Wow,” she breathed. “That’s cool. I kind of wish I could do that.”
“I wish I couldn't,” Peaceflyt told her. “It’s kind of painful, actually.”
I could tell,” Atacama interjected jokingly.
“I think I’m gonna go back to sleep,” Sparrow said, laying down again.
“Aren't we gonna decipher it?” Pelican asked.
“I don't know,” Pyramid said. “My brain’s too tired to be deciphering anything right now.”
“Maybe we can do it later,” Atacama suggested.
“It sounds important, though. I mean, 'all will be lost' and 'lives will be destroyed' sounds kind of ominous,” Walnut said.
“Also the part about there being a lost tribe,” added Pelican. He walked over to Peaceflyt. “How did that feel?”
“What?”
“Giving the prophecy?”
“Well, I couldn't move. And then there was this really loud rushing noise in my head. And then all of a sudden, my voice was speaking, but I couldn't control it. I do not want to do that again.”
“Well, that sounds scary,” Pelican said.
“Hopefully it won't happen again,” Walnut reassured him. She turned around and saw Pyramid and Atacama lying on the ground.
“I’m going to join Sparrow and sleep,” Pyramid announced. “If we’re going to leave tomorrow, we’re going to need a lot of it.”
“Yeah. Same with me,” Atacama added. She yawned and closed her eyes, and soon they were both dead to the world.
“I think we should go to sleep now,” Walnut suggested. Peaceflyt and Pelican both nodded, and they both laid their heads down and closed their eyes.
Peaceflyt had a dream. In his dream, he saw himself on a rock in the middle of the ocean. He looked around, but there was no one in sight. He realized that he couldn't even see himself. He must've been invisible. He felt his brow furrow in his dream, like he was thinking really hard. He felt a pang of surprise and happiness when he saw Walnut, Pelican, and the others hovering behind him.
Suddenly, the dream switched. He was flying toward the Sky Kingdom. He could hear dragons talking behind him- Atacama, Pyramid, Sparrow, and Peak. He turned his head around to look at them. As soon as his eyes landed on Peak, he nearly burst out in excitement. PEAK! He yelled. But Peak couldn't hear him. She kept talking with Atacama, Pyramid, and Sparrow like nothing had happened.
Peak? Peaceflyt repeated. Still, she didn't look over. He flew to her and held out a talon to tap her. But as soon as he touched her, she vanished into thin air. He watched as Atacama, Pyramid, and Sparrow disappeared along with her, one by one. Peak! Peaceflyt called. Atacama! Pyramid! Sparrow!
...Anyone?
He then saw a load of gray dragons traveling toward him. He felt a pang of dread and tried to fly away, but they were faster than he was. As they got closer, he saw a murderous glint in their eyes. The dragon in the lead stretched their talons out at Peaceflyt’s neck. When the dragon’s claws landed there, his vision faded to black, and he disappeared as well.
