CHAPTER FOUR
"Why are they not in position yet?" Cote screamed over the phone.
"You were paid for results, not excuses! I am on a very tight time schedule here...Look, I will make this quite simple for you. Get what you promised, where you promised it before phase two begins, or I promise you will be part of the destruction of phase two...Is that clear? Good!" Cote then slammed down the phone.
"Backwards era! How can all their communications systems all go down at the same time...Ooh, those meddling TimeLine agents. Gitdom, somehow those kindergarteners managed to jam the ground assaults communications, see if you can unjam them!" Cote screamed.
"I told you before Cote, time is money. The more you delay..."
"And I told you Malkin, that in order to receive the maximum profit from this venture, we must stick to the plan." Cote replied calmly.
"Maximum profits are the goal, but I have a bottom line that must be met. This is not an all or nothing deal Cote. That was made plain to you from the beginning." Malkin said in a firm tone,
"Cote, if they don't arrive on schedule, all my formulas and calculations are going to be off." Neying complained.
Cote chuckled to himself.
"Do not worry my friend. Those TimeLine agents never change. They are so tied down to rules and regulations. That ninety nine percent of their actions are reactive. Our plan is a go. The troops will arrive on time and all will go according to that plan. Now send your formulas and stop worrying." Cote stated.
"Gitdom, in this time period they use such primitive communications, can't you unblock them?"
"I have no problem opening our channels to the assault teams, but those pesky TimeLine baboons, keep blocking them again." Gitdom grumbled.
"You can't block their blocks?" Cote asked, then shook his head at how he just worded that.
"Not with what I have here,"
Gitdom then got a big grin on his face,
"Hang on a minute, I got an idea,"
Gitdom put his head set back on.
Normally, Cote did not mind waiting on someone as talented as Gitdom to give him an answer. However, between Makin's increased amount of pacing back and forth across the floor, and Neying increased mumbling about the importance of timing when it came to his explosives, all this was truly put Cote's patience to the test

"Professor, it appears someone is trying to scramble our blocker signals," Agent Franks reported.
"It's about time." The Professor stated.
"What?"
"It means they are stuck, at least for the moment. They cannot do anything more until that communication channel is open, this is our chance. Oswald, you studied Neying systems, is there any way around what he has set up around that warehouse?" The Professor asked.
"Tricky, but I think if you could provide some cover, I could get Agent Young and myself out with the package in about forty-five minutes," Agent Oswald replied.
"Alright, it is time to make our move while we still have their communications blocked. Take Agents Speed and Franks along with you as far as you need them to help cover. The rest of us will operate from here." The Professor stated.
Gitdom was about to tell Cote that he thought he had a way to get around the jammed communications, when three of Neying's computer alarms went off.
"What is going on?" Cote asked as he placed his hands over his ears.
"Someone is getting away with our prize." Neying responded as he scrambled to figure out the details.
"You said he was well protected!" Cote yelled.
"I told you he was well protected from any attempt by anyone in this era. I warned you that those moron agents, were another matter. You said don't worry about them!" Neying yelled back, then managed to turn off the alarms.
"Well do something about this!" Cote demanded.
"With what?" I have nothing left, you had me develop and put in place all my other fireworks and weapons in and around the Cape, for that offensive, remember?" We talked about this before and you said, 'Stick to the plan!'"
Neying was still scrambling to at least see what was happening at the warehouses where they had stashed John Glenn.
Malkin was just about to start in on how much this was going to cost him again, when Cote stopped him.
"Look my friends. This may not be as bad as I first thought, as a matter of fact, they might have just done us a favor." Cote said confidence.
"That is it Cote! Your plan was always a long shot, now with the ground assault frozen, and our only bargaining chip gone, I am done!" Malkin said in a huff.
"I am out of here!" He gathered his stuff and headed for the door.
"Don't think I am absorbing all these losses Cote. I have built in securities, so it does not matter if you make it back to our time or not. Good day gentlemen, it has been anything but a pleasure doing business with you!"
Malkin barely made it out of the room before Gitdom began his giggle. This time Cote and Neying joined him.
"We have our securities as well," Neying mumbled.
"I take it you two have our surprise all set up in his transfer tube?" Cote asked.
"Oh yes, he will die laughing." Gitdom said then giggled hysterically.
"Actually, he will never get the chance to laugh." Neying added.
"Very good gentlemen let me tell you what I have in mind. We will need to be a little more cautious, the Professor has gotten a lot bolder in his old age, but so have I." Cote said with raised eyebrows.
"Gitdom, go ahead and send out those messages to both the U.S., and Russian governments. It is time we heated up this space race. Oh yes, please send one of our more trusted minions to pick up the last payment that poor Mr. Malkin left for us before his unfortunate accident," Cote added.

"Professor, I am detecting one, no wait two signals. One directed towards the U, S. capital, and one to Russia," Candy said excitedly.
"Can you hold them in stasis until the other agents get back?" The Professor asked.
"I think so." Candy responded.
"Larry, see if you can give her a hand. It looks like Cote either has a plan b, or he is simply going to push forward anyway."
As soon as all the other agents were back, the Professor began giving out new directions.
"Agent Speed, you stay next door with Mr. Glenn. If he come too before we are ready for him to, use standard code #447 to explain our situation. Agent Franks, take over for Agent Smith and Turnbuckle, they will bring you up to date on what is going on in communications. Agents Young and Oswald, you have less than an hour to finish up any details on the assault transportation we are going to need. Agents Marks and Robinson, take the limo and loaded it with as many cyber beams as it will hold, drive it to a secluded place near the Cape. Hopefully, they will not be needed. Agent Smith, you and Agent Turnbuckle as soon as you have passed on what you have done, you two are with me."
Ten minutes later Agents Smith and Turnbuckle were walking down the hall with the Professor.
"Professor, how can we stop nuclear missiles if they are launched, without looking like we are using advanced technology?" Larry asked.
"By not using advanced technology."
"What?" Both agents asked in unison.
"Look, the key is keeping Cote off balance. We already broke code by the method we used in getting Glenn out. If you were Cote, what would you think we would do next?" The Professor asked.
"Either use a G.T.R beam to transport any rockets that are launched to disarm them." Larry stated.
"Or a Triton beam," Candy added.
"Very good, and I am sure if we had the time, we could list several other methods. I am quite sure that Neying has considered all of them and has a defense for them. However, all these plans take place after the rockets are launched, we need to get in and reprogram the rockets to simply continue on into outer space."
"Professor, won't the governments detonate the war heads anyway?" Larry asked.
"Not likely, because they would have no way of knowing who would be effected most. Just in case, we will disarm them as well. Now we have not much time. We will need to get to the garage to see if our transportation is ready." The Professor started towards the door.
"Let's get a move on you two!"
When they arrived, there was a note on the car.
"All is completed, but please note, you will only be able to extend the shield on the car for 100 yards. This makes it advisable to leave your personal shields set at 100 percent when you are out of the car."
The Professor read the note and told Larry and Candy to get in. He then went over to where Agent Young and Oswald were finishing up the assault jeeps.
"Take these to the designated location. When you are set, monitor closely any missile launches. If they are not on a continue straight up trajectory, it means we failed and then and only then, you are authorized to use any means possible to neutralize them, after that is accomplished, transport immediately back to the agency and report directly to the Director what has occurred. Is that clear?"
"Yes Professor,"
When they all were in the car, he explained that Cote had gone to great lengths to learn all about the governments that had nuclear missiles.
"I am sure he is counting on the U.S. to pull the trigger first. the main control base is right down the road' I have sent a coded message to the location, telling them that we are coming just to double check everything before any is launched. Hopefully, the message will be believed and not double checked." The Professor stated and started the car.
At the same time the other Agents managed to get a message to the President of the America. It was sent as if sent by the C.I.A.
"The package has been found and is safe. All the details we be sent in a full report soon. It would be prudent to keep all on high alert. We will keep you updated as to what we find out as we move along."
As soon as the car turned off the main highway and onto a small dirt road, an alarm went off on the dash.
"Well, they know someone is coming," the Professor said as he silenced the alarm, leaving only the light flashing.
In the distance, they could see three armored trucks speeding towards them. It did not take long for them to block their path.
"It appears they are armed only with twentieth century armaments." Candy said after completing her
scan.
"Good to know, the Professor commented as he rolled down the window.
"Well folks, as I suspected, everyone in this vehicle is old enough to read. So, I am sure you read the warnings that are clearly posted, so I am going to give you about five seconds to put that black beauty of yours in reverse and tell everyone you know that those signs mean business."
"Look friend, we were asked..."
"I am not your friend, and you now have three seconds left."
"Very well, but you will be sorry." The Professor stated and rolled up the window. He
put the car in reverse and slowly started to back up.
"Larry, how far ahead is the control building?"
"It looks to be about ten miles."
"Any other defenses between here and there?"
"None detected."
"Good, hit their weapons with an inactivator, and their engines with a neutrals beam."
The Professor only backed up enough to get a running start at the softer sand that was round were the armored trucks had stopped. They were quickly around and back on the road.
"Professor, won't they communicate to someone that we got passed them?" Candy asked.
"Agent Smith, men in general, but even more so in this century are very prideful. Those guys were hired to scare away locals. They will not admit to anyone that three unarmed people in a plain black sedan, got passed twenty armed men, in three armored trucks, without firing a shot, by time that beam wears off, I would imagine they would use the story of never encountering us," The Professor said with a smile.
"Larry, refine your scans. Neying is super cautious. They will not be expecting what we are attempting to do, but because we are close by, Neying probably has a few, 'just in cases planted,'" the Professor warned.
"I see what you mean. I am beginning to pick up on some B.P.I. signals. I am adjusting our shielding to try to convince them that there is nothing out of the ordinary about our car, or those inside." Larry stated.
"It appears to have worked; I have intercepted communications telling the guards at the gate to let us in." Candy added.
"We must still be extremely cautious. Cote is no fool. It could be that they are letting us through because we are needed immediately, or they did detect something, and Cote is happy to have us where we can be watched."
"Professor, if Cote was suspicious, why would he risk us being in a place where we could foil his plan?" Candy asked.
"Remember, whatever the main reason for all this is, he and his partners want to make the agency look foolish. If he can stop us when we are close to foiling his plans, he will have achieved that goal."
As the gate came into view, it was obvious that the entire area was very well secured. The car slowed as they approached, but the gates opened, and one of the guards, vigorously waved them on.
"Alright team listen to me and listen good. All of our equipment stays in the car."
"Professor..."Larry's protest was stopped by the Professor pointing to his scanner.
"Neying may not have the latest technology, but this tells us that what he does have, will detect anything that is not from this century. We are going to have to do this the old fashion way,"
The Professor could tell from the looks on Candy and Larry's faces, he needed to detail out what he meant.
"Agents, you two will have to do what you have always done best, and that is work as a team. You two together have worked enough of these cases that reprograming the targeting computers should not be difficult for you if you work together. I will do what I can to keep everyone else away from you while you work. Coming in without any equipment will help to slow any suspicions, however, those stationed inside will be watching our actions closely. We will need to work quickly and efficiently."
"Yes sir." Larry and Candy said in unison.
When the car stopped, the Professor drew in a big breath,
"Let's do this and go home."
