Taron flickered open his eyes, expecting for Micheal to barge in and tell him to wake up but apparently not. His gaze fixed on snoring Angie as her head was on his collarbone. He smiled and pecked her head, causing her to wake up. "The fuck?"
"Morning Angie. How was your sleep?"
"I think I'm still dreaming coz usually in the morning I get thrown out by the people I'm staying with and here I am getting pecked on the head by speccy. Am I?"
"Nope, you're here. With me."
"Alright romantic boy. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." She got out of the bed and pulled up the sweatpants she was wearing, walking out of the room. He chuckled as soon as she left the room and put on his glasses. He got up from the bed and got himself dressed, putting on the hoodie Angie had on the previous night. He then tied his hair up and went downstairs, passing the living room and seeing Kevin and Simeona playing Just Dance. He got to the kitchen and saw Angie with a mouthful of food in her mouth. "I'm guessing that's the fruit bowl done then?"
"I haven't had proper food in a long while! Let me have this!" She said as she swallowed all the food she had in her mouth in one go. "Wow."
"It's easier when I unhinge my jaw but I don't think you guys are ready for that. I'm like a snake."
"Wow. So when Simmy said that you were a mutant like you're a actual terrifying mutant thing like the fly man thing from the movie The Fly?"
"Yup, only instead I'm a whole scary stag thing. It's also the reason my fingers are purple due to the amount of blood that I don't get anymore. That and the hypothermia from being in the cold." Angie explained as she took three breadslices and swallowed them down with one big gulp. "I'm versatile."
"Yup. Hold on."
"HEY GUYS HAVE YOU SEEN MICHEAL ANYWHERE THIS MORNING?!" Taron called out to Simeona and Kevin. "NO WE HAVEN'T WE'RE DOING UNO BY LITTLE BIG WANNA JOIN?!" Kevin called out as Taron got really excited. "NO FUCKING WAY YOU'RE DOING IT WITHOUT ME! Angie wanna join? Do you know about Just Dance?" He asked her as she had a armful of food with her. "I'll be fine with the food."
A crash was then heard from the living room. "MICHEAL'S BACK!" Kevin called out as the two dropped everything and ran to the living room where Micheal was laying on the floor in dark camo and a couple of amulets. "Woah, are you alright?" Taron asked as he crouched down and saw that there was blood on him. "I found the cult and these things." He rolled onto his back and gave Taron the amulets. They were the colours of red, green, pink and purple. "They, they were on this shrine thing underground. I snatched them quickly before anyone saw me but I then got scrapped by some monsters. They were like.. a hybrid of something! One of them had a beak and the other had like, three arms like a spider.." He explained, out of breath and holding his side. "Micheal you're bleeding!"
"Really I never noticed-"
"Looks like a chunk was taken out of you, bite-wise." Angie mumbled as she peeked at Micheal's wound. "The spider got you."
Taron examined the amulets and put them near his. It was just like his. They then started to glow and ring making Angie cover her ears and yelp making Taron drop the amulets in fright. They stopped ringing and glowing. "The fuck?" Simeona went over to the amulets. "You guys heard a ringing?"
"Yeah, it's like the ringing you get when it's too quiet."
"Has it stopped? The ringing stopped?" Angie muttered.
She uncovered her ears and huffed. "It's like a dog whistle to mutants. Those amulet things."
The group looked at her with concern and curiosity. "What do you mean?"
"The amulets, they're a connection of spirits and magic that when you put them together, you unleash something horrible, something bad."
"What do you mean?"
"Well what you did there didn't unleash the thing but it did kinda shake him a bit."
"It's a him?"
"Yes, it's a him."
"Well we should put these amulets somewhere safe. Probably far away from each other." Taron said as he went to another room with the amulets. "Well remember what I said last night about stopping this cult?" Micheal asked.
"Yea?"
"Well we're not going to back out on this. It's dangerous, I knew it was dangerous."
"You wanna do a blood oath?"
"No, fuck no that's disgusting. I already threw up because of Angie eating the nurse's face. I'm not gonna get herpes from one of you." Angie giggled. "Guilty motherfucker."
"Well like, at least we got something to do for this summer. When should we start?"
"Well first we need to order the equipment necessary for this and then we can start."
"We can order it later, we actually need to find out where this cult is."
"Well I wrote down the coordinates for it and I think you guys might be surprised where it is." He gave a piece of paper to Simeona and she gasped. "It's under the statue in the courtyard of the school."
"Does that mean the school's got something to do with the cult?" Kevin asked, looking at the paper as well. "We're not sure but what I did hear from some of the followers is that their next meeting is on a day of the full moon. Full blood moon actually."
"Night of the werewolf!" Angie added.
"So we need to find someone who knows astrology and ask them when this blood moon is."
Angie looked out the window and she stared in confusion. "Hey guys, what time is it?"
"Noon, why?"
"Is the sky supposed to look like that?" She pointed to the sky which was still a dusk colour. "What the fuck?" Micheal said as the others went to the window to see. "Is this normal?"
"Maybe a bit of the moon's blew up?"
"GUYS I JUST CHECKED THE TIME WHY IS THE SKY THAT COLOUR?!" Taron yelled from across the house. "WE DON'T KNOW, ANGIE JUST POINTED IT OUT TO US!" Kevin answered back. Taron ran back to the group as he fixed his glasses and panted. "It's lunch right now and the sky's like that!"
"We noticed." Micheal added.
The five of them stayed quiet before Taron conducted himself and shook his hands. "I put the amulets around the house in different places, including my own. Which is why I'm not wearing it. The red one is the walls, green one is in the bathroom, purple one is in the mattress of my bed and the pink one is in my closet. If none of us can remember I'll write it down."
Angie looked back outside. "If it helps, I can explain what becoming a mutant felt like. To you know, help with the research."
"Would you be alright with that Angie?" Simeona asked.
"Yeah, besides the him I was talking about I know what he looks like."
The group thought for a bit.
"Okay Kevin, Taron you two go around the town and try to collect some evidence of mutants. The river under the Klige bridge and the graveyard near to the train station are good ones. My book is in my room if you need it." Micheal instructed. Kevin and Taron nodded as they ran out of the room. "Meanwhile the three of us will be going to the library to find more of the cult."
"Can I get dressed first? Do any of you guys have stuff that'll cover all my scars?"
"I have a sweater and if you're alright with baggy jeans, Kevin's got some. I also have some military boots from my dad."
"Cool! Just what I need!"
"Then let's get ready then!"
