"What about the rest of your classes?" Theo asked, sitting crosslegged on the edge of Georgia's bed, holding her own ankles. She watched as Georgia dug around her desk, throwing open notebooks and pencils onto the polished wood. "Are your parents more relaxed about skipping or something?"
Georgia smiled as she lifted her laptop open. "It's just my aunt and me. She should be coming back home from class for lunch pretty soon." She shrugged. "She'll bitch about it, no doubt, but she knows I'll make up the work. She'll probably let it go."
"Oh, my bad..." Theo mumbled. "Do you mind me asking about it...?"
Georgia shrugged, pulling her class up online, scrolling down to the notes for the lesson she was missing. "I was a teenage pregnancy. After I was born my mom ditched, and I never knew my dad, so..." She paused to read the instructions at the top of the first slide. "I stayed with my grandma until she passed away, and by that time, my aunt was twenty-two, so she got custody of me, a twelve year old."
She repeated the same story she had told dozens of nosy kids. Only this time, it didn't bother her so much to tell it.
"I'm sorry." Theo squeaked, her voice hardly a whisper.
"Nah, you're good." Georgia stated, her eyes still glued to the computer screen. She scratched notes quickly onto the page, rushing to finish. "What about you? Your at home situation? You must have relaxed parents for you to be able to sneak out and fight." Georgia laughed.
"Um, well..." Theo started. "It's just me and my dad and our relationship is kind of strained. We don't talk much. My mom..." She paused, squeezing one of the many pillows on Georgia's bed. "She died when I was ten."
"I'm sorry." Georgia stated. It was an obligatory statement, Georgia felt. Something one was required to say when informed of someone's unfortunate situation. Often, she thought that many rules of socialization were pushed, or obligated.
"Don't be. I..." She thumbed a bandaid above her eye. "I, um, try not to think about it a whole lot."
Georgia set down her pencil, shifting under the weight of the conversation. "What kind of sandwiches do you eat?" Georgia mumbled, rising out of her chair.
"What?"
"I'm making you food. What kind of sandwiches do you eat?" She repeated, now standing at the door frame.
"Oh, well, anything is fine. I'm not picky." Theodora mumbled, rolling over on Georgia's bed, cradling the pillow in her arms.
-------------
"Hey, Theo. I just kind of put whatever was in the fridge on-" Georgia paused as she set the plate on her desk, looking for the ginger. "Where did you go?" She frowned, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Here." Theo mumbled from under the pile of pillows. Her hand shot up from the cave of comfort and she waved lazily. "I got cold and I didn't want to mess up your bed, so I just..."
"Pillows?" Georgia smiled.
"Yeah." Theo sat up straight, pushing her hair out of her face. "Pillows." She climbed out of the bed, wandering over to Georgia's desk and sitting down. "Do you have a hair tie? I tie my hair up when I eat." She asked, spinning on her chair.
"Oh, sure." Georgia bent towards her nightstand and pulled it open. She tossed the black elastic band to the ginger and closed her drawer back, sitting on the bed.
"I hope the food's okay." Georgia mumbled, watching as Theo bit into the sandwich without even bothering to look at it. She furrowed her brows as the ginger dug into the food. "Did you not eat lunch?"
Theo shook her head. "Nope. I never eat lunch." She tensed, but allowed her shoulders to relax. "Well, I always just ate off Yana's plate, but since we..."
Georgia blinked as Theo's words trailed off. "Okay."
Georgia had found herself watching her as she devoured the food. Her shirt was bloody, so she had stripped down to a tank top, allowing Georgia to watch Theo's toned arms flex as she moved. Theo's hair was wet, smelling of Georgia's own shampoo after she had washed all of the blood out it.
Georgia hardly jumped when her phone began to vibrate in her pocket. She ripped her eyes away from the ginger to answer it.
"Hey, Belle."
"Hey, are you on your way over? I have your backpack and crap in my room." She paused, silence filling the line. "And are you going to tell me what happened?"
Georgia's eyes found Theo's as she chewed slowly.
"Uh, yeah. I'm on my way." She stood. "See you soon."
Georgia waltzed over to Theo and grabbed her by her arm and reached for her keys. "You're riding with me."
Theo frowned, looking down at her unfinished plate. "Can I bring my food, though?"
"Sure."
-----------
"Hey, Belle." Georgia waved, stepping into Annabelle's house. She waved Theo to follow her up the stairs, ignoring Annabelle's bewilderment. "In your room, right?" Georgia asked, finally looking at her friend.
"Yeah..." Annabelle muttered, squinting at the two of them as they trudged up the stairs.
"Nice to meet you." Theo offered a hand once they reached Annabelle's room. "I'm Theodora."
"I know." Annabelle nodded, keeping her own hands to herself.
Theo lowered her hand, her lips tightening into a line. She looked to her plate and hesitated. "Would you like a bite?" She offered an untouched piece of her sandwich out to her.
Annabelle laughed when Georgia had flicked her in the back of the head.
"Don't be awkward, Theo." She rolled her eyes as she situated her backpack on her shoulders. She pushed a thumb over into Theo's space. "Idiot here went on to fight in a ring, one over by that warehouse, you know? So I basically kidnapped her and bandaged her up."
Annabelle hesitated. "So, um..." Her glazed eyes flickered from Theo and back to Georgia. "Is there something going on between you two or...? You've been around her a lot since that party, Georgia..."
Theo began to cough, clutching her neck as she choked on her sandwich. "No! Nothing like that...!" She glanced at Georgia who had one eyebrow raised. She bit her tongue as Georgia sneakily gestured to her neck, where the hickey was bound to still be. "At least... I don't think so...?"
Annabelle frowned, crossing her arms. "So...? Yes?"
"She's just an experience buddy! I get to live life, and I basically stop Theo from killing herself!" Georgia grinned, pushing the flushed ginger out of Annabelle's house. "I'll see you tomorrow!" She waved as she opened her car door.
"Yeah..." Annabelle waved awkwardly as Theo gave up a small goodbye. "I'll see you tomorrow."
I have a joke for you, dear reader.
What do you get when two idiots who see each other as amusing, yet annoying toys use each other to benefit in their own ways, only to end up falling head over heels for one another?
An idiotic "enemies" to lovers story.
Funny joke, right?
Georgia wants to be less boring, Theodora just wants to graduate and disappear.
