"Annabelle's is still blowing my phone up." Georgia laughed. "She's probably never going to leave me alone-" Georgia paused when she noticed Theo was standing still at the door way.
"What are you doing, Theo? It's cold out here, go in already!" Georgia looked over Theodora's shoulder, not at all shocked to see her aunt at the kitchen island.
"Hey, Aunt Jay." Georgia grunted as she kicked off her shoes. "This is Theodora, a classmate from school." She clung to Theodora's shoulder as she struggled to pull her socks off. "She uh... got into an argument with her dad, so she's staying the night with me."
Jay set her cup down on the counter. "Did it get physical? She's looking pretty roughed up. Do I need to get the police involved?"
Theo quickly threw her hands up. "No, nothing like that! I got into a fight with some kids at school. I promise, my dad would never lay a hand on me."
Jay's brows furrowed, but she let up. "Fine, but if you're known for violence, I'd prefer you not be under my roof. I hope you understand."
Theo swallowed dryly. "Yes, ma'am."
"Have you eaten?" Jay asked, moving on. "I was going to order pizza tonight. Are you allergic to anything?"
"Nope. Not at all."
"Alright." Jay replied, dialing the number to the local pizza place. "You girls can go upstairs. I'll call you when the pizza is here."
Georgia rolled her eyes when Theodora stood still, staring at Jay as she started ordering.
"Hey, focus, ginger. Get your eyes off my aunt and get your ass upstairs." Georgia grabbed Theo's wrist and started tugging her up the stairs.
"Sorry." Theo mumbled. "I just didn't expect her to be so young. Is she a college student?"
"Yep. She's getting her Master's soon." Georgia huffed as she pushed Theo down onto her bed, her hands tightened on the ginger's shoulders. "But shut up about her."
Theo's questions died when Georgia frowned over her. She studied the blonde, confused as to what was going on behind her seemingly angry eyes.
Had she ticked a nerve? Did she not like her aunt? Was she supposed to give praise on the sandwich? She didn't know.
"The sandwich was good!" Theo yelped. "If that's what you wanna hear. It was really good."
"What?"
Theo blinked. "What?" She paused. "That's what your mad about, right? I meant to tell you I was good when I took the first bite. You did a good job."
"Uh, thanks? But no, you dork, I'm just thinking." Georgia replied flatly, staring into Theo's eyes.
Theo shifted under Georgia. "So you have to stare at me while you think? Kinda weird, but okay?"
Georgia shook her head. "It's easier to think when I'm looking at the object of my thoughts." Georgia paused. "I have a few questions."
Theo's furrowed her brows. "About what?"
"Why do you hate this town so much? Why are you so self-destructive? What did you see in Yana? Why'd the break up bother you so much?" Georgia paused to breathe, noticing Theo's eyes widen. "Who hurt you so bad for you to end up at this point?"
Theo whistled. "Wow. Okay. Loads of personal questions." She sat up, and Georgia didn't move, but instead situated herself comfortably on Theo's lap, her legs outstretched on the bed behind Theo.
Their faces only sat a few inches apart.
"Well, uh. This town just kind of sucks for me. My mom died here, I had trouble growing up, so there's just a huge total of bad memories for me." Theo started to fidget with her thumbs. "The self-destruction thing... I don't mean to be. It's just hard sometimes I guess, I mean-"
Theo paused, taking a deep breath.
"Like, a part of me just thinks-" She hesitated, her eyes flickering to Georgia's and back towards her lap. Her voice was quiet enough that Georgia could barely just hear it, and Georgia cringed as Theo's voice shook. "Sometimes I think I deserve it."
Georgia shook her head slowly. "No." Georgia's vision blurred as Theo began to silently sob. "No, Theo." Georgia had found herself wrapped around Theodora, hugging her neck.
"I'm not all too sure of what your mind is like, but I promise you, you don't deserve to be beaten bloody, bruised, and left on the verge of literally running away." Georgia squeezed Theodora hard enough that the ginger squeaked. "I know I'm not the best at expression-" Georgia laughed. "I mean, hell, I've only done this with Annabelle a few times, and I'm crap at it, but... I think you're great."
"You're such a loser." Theo laughed into Georgia's shoulder. "Thank you. It means a lot." Theo pulled away, looking Georgia in her face, her hands still on the blonde's hips. "To be honest, I'm not over Yana, I don't think I'll ever forget her, or the things we did together. I mean, she was there for me at a really tough time, and I think she was a sort of crutch for me. And then I became really attached, and... I guess obsessive."
Georgia pushed Theo's hair out of her face, fully exposing her palate of freckles. "You think that's why she left you?" Georgia muttered.
Theo shrugged. "I mean, I grew to really love her. By the time I was a sophomore, I was already planning our life together. I think I took things too far. We're only in high school, for god's sake." Theo bit her lip. "I think I scared her away."
"You know something, Theo?" Georgia began, her gaze lowering from Theo's hair to her eyes.
"Hm?" Theo hummed, her eyes interlocked with the girl on her lap.
"I wouldn't hate the thought of you being obsessed with me."
Georgia blinked as Theo's breath hitched in her throat.
And suddenly, Theo became all too aware of the heat emitting from Georgia's curved frame. Her body froze as a vanilla scented perfume made it's way too her. Had Georgia always smelled this good? Theo's lips spread slightly, surprise washing over as her focus navigated to Georgia's lips. They were pink, shining with what was probably chapstick. Then, finally her gaze met Georgia's.
Did she always look this dangerous? Had Georgia always look like she wanted to devour her whole?
Silence simmered in the room until Jay hollered from down stairs, making Theo jump.
I have a joke for you, dear reader.
What do you get when two idiots who see each other as amusing, yet annoying toys use each other to benefit in their own ways, only to end up falling head over heels for one another?
An idiotic "enemies" to lovers story.
Funny joke, right?
Georgia wants to be less boring, Theodora just wants to graduate and disappear.
