Felix and I walked to his car. He opened the passenger side door for me. I got in his big black truck. The drive to the Dairy King was pretty quiet. When we got there things were still quiet. We got out of his truck and walked inside the Dairy King.
“So what do you want to get?” Felix asked.
“ I want a large oreo sundae,” I told him
“Okay, could we have a large oreo sundae and a large peanut butter sundae,” Felix said to the cashier.
“Okay, it's going to be 8.87,” the cashier said. Felix got out his wallet a pulled out a five.
“Hey Trevor I'm a little short do mind spotting me the rest,” He said
“Yeah sure, I said.” I dug my wallet out of pocket and handed Felix a 10 dollar bill. “
Thanks, Trevor here you can I have the 5,” Felix said.
“No, it's fine this time it will be my treat,” I said
“But I said I would treat you,” He said.
“It's fine I will pay this time and you can pay next time,” I told him
“Okay, deal,” He said. I handed the cashier the ten.
“Alright, your change is going to 1.13. He handed me the change. Your sundaes will our in a few minutes. Felix and I sat down at a table,” The cashier said
“So your brother seems like a jerk,” Felix said.
“Yeah, I'm sorry about him he kind of blames me for us moving here,” I said.
“Well was it your fault you moved here?” He asked
“Well, sort of. I got drunk at a party and kind of sort of kissed my friend,” I said
“Oh wow. That's not good,” He.
“It was an accident okay. I didn’t force myself on him like all those rumors say. I was just drunk and made a mistake. Well, after the party he confronted me about it. I told him that I was gay and he and some other guys beat me up,” I said
“So your family moved here for your safety,” He said.
“Not exactly my parents weren't exactly that thrilled when I came out. So they decided to move somewhere where no one knew that I was gay” I said
“Are you they going to be okay with people knowing you're gay?” He asked.
“Probably not but I stopped caring about what they think when they blamed me for getting attacked because I’m gay,” I said
“I'm sorry that happened to you,” He said. The tone in his voice showed concern.
“It's okay I guess because I wouldn’t have gotten to meet you if I didn’t move,” I said.
A worker then came and brought us our ice cream. I took a spoonful ate it.
“So I came out to my mother,” Felix said suddenly.
When I heard that I was so shocked that I started choking on a piece of oreo. “You did what” I exclaimed
“I came out to my mother. I did it when you left my house on Friday” He said.
“You did that's amazing. What about your father did you tell him.” I asked
“No, I didn’t want to tell him. You heard how he was talking on Friday. I don’t think he would understand.” He said
“Okay just take things at your own pace,” I said.
“Okay, I will. So is this a date?” He said
“What a date where would you get that idea,” I asked
“Well I like you and you like me. We are together alone. So wouldn’t this be considered a date?” He asked.
“I don’t know I wasn’t told this was a date. Maybe if someone asked me out properly then maybe.” I said.
“Trevor do you want to go out with me,” He said.
I started giggling at his sudden outburst. “Yes, I will go out with you.”
We just spent the rest of the time eating are ice cream and talking. When we finished Felix drove me home. We pulled onto the street by house. I was about to exit his car when he grabbed my hand. So Trevor now that we are dating would it be okay if got a kiss before you leave.
Sure. I leaned forward closer to Felix. His big muscular hand cupped the side of my face. He pulled me in our lips touched in a heated moment of passion. Our tongues twisted in each other's mouths. We then slowly pulled away from each other.
“Wow that was amazing,” I said. Both our faces were red.
“Yeah that was pretty great,” He said
“I have to go now, Felix”
“Um, do you want to shit with me at lunch tomorrow,” He said. His voice broke like asking me to sit with him was something really important.
“Sure,” I said
Good. See you tomorrow. I got out of his car and then he drove off.
The night went by and it was Tuesday. It was soon lunchtime I saw Felix standing by his sitting talking to his friends. I didn’t know if it was okay for me to go over to him. He must have seen me because he was waving me over. I walked over to him. I was nervous about how his friends would treat me.
“Hey Trevor how are you,” He said
“I’m good hows it going, Felix”
“I'm good you remember my friends Darren and Jackson”
“Yeah hey,” I waved to them nervously.
“Hey,” Jackson said
“So since when it is okay for the queer to sit with us,” Darren said.
“Shut the f*ck up Darren,” Felix said
“Come on Felix be serious you are okay sitting next to him,” Darren said,
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be okay with being near him,” Felix said.
“Because he's gay. It isn't natural,” Darren said
“Darren, you don’t even know him so why are you treating him like this,” Felix said. His face getting red with anger.
“Come on Felix just ask him to go sit at a different table,” Jackson said.
"Why should Trevor have to move you guys are the ones who have a problem with him,” Felix said.
“Because I don’t want to associate with a gross queer,” Darren said.
“Fine if that's the way you feel we will move come on Trevor,” Felix said.
“Wait Felix I can move you can stay here with friends if you want. I will be fine. I said. I felt so out of place I knew things would turn like this. I just didn’t want Felix to go through the things I went through.
“No we are leaving,” He said his voice taking an angry and serious tone. Felix grabbed my tray and started walking over to an empty table in the far corner of the cafeteria. He put my tray down on the table right next to his. I sat down next to him. Darren and Jackson looked at us glaring at me. Then Ken walked over to their table and sat down next to him and started talking to them.
“I am sorry about them Trevor. You shouldn’t have been treated like that.” Felix said.
I looked at Felix he seemed upset by what happened.
“Felix this is what happens when you come out there are going to be people who accept you and then there are going to be people who think that something is wrong with you and treat you badly because of it. I don’t want to put you through this.” I said.
He then took grabbed my hands. “Look at me Trevor I know things are going to be hard but I want to know you, I want to experience many things in my life good and bad and I want to do it with you.
I blushed. It has been a while since I have been treated so nicely. “I want to experience things with you Felix,” I said.
“Good, that makes me happy. Do you want to come over to my house after I get done with practice today to work on our science project for Mr. B’s class?” He asked.
“Sure I would love to,” I said
“Awesome and I can promise that I already cleaned my room.” He said.
“So I won’t have to walk over your dirty socks and underwear,” I said.
Felix just laughed at my comment. We spent the rest of lunch just talking and telling jokes. It has been a long time since I have been able to talk and joke with someone like this. After lunch, we each went to our next class. That's how it was for the rest of the week we would have lunch together spend lunch talking and joking getting to know each other. We would continue to work on our project for Mr.B’s class. For a while, everything was going great. It was finally Friday the day of the homecoming game and the homecoming dance.
