Davon: *Munching happily with his mouth full* “Madge this is good you should have yours plus we made it.”
Madge brooding and thoughtful: “Shut up Davon.”
Davon stops.
Davon: “ … What? What did I do? Why are you angry at me? Today wasn’t so bad. The baker was nice and we learned new things. Plus he gave us these yummy tarts.”
Madge: “Ugh!” she cries, stamping her foot. “You just don’t get it, do you? It is always going to be this way for us. Always struggling to have enough of anything. People constantly feel sorry for us and only being nice because they feel bad that we are dirt poor.”
With that she turns on her heel, eyes blurred with tears of frustration and sadness sprinting away in no particular direction leaving Davon standing there confused.
Davon: “Wait, Madge!”
Madge begins to run blindly until *THUD*. She runs straight into a man.
Man: oof
Madge: “Sorry Mister.”
Mr. Balkerin:“Well it’s quite alright young lady.” he says stooping down to retrieve his coin.
Davon: “Madge there you are!”
But before he can retrieve the coin Madge swoops down and grabs it up.
Mr. Balkerin: “Why thank you young miss.” he says, reaching out his hand.
Madge: “What is this strange looking coin?” she asks the man turning it over in her hand
Mr. Balkerin: “A true gift indeed. The moon goddess passed it down to one of her faithful followers years ago. After a lot of research and travel, I have finally found it and I plan to make a wish. So many people have been after this coin since it is imbued with the power to grant wishes.”
Madge: “Interesting…” she replies contemplating on whether or not she should return the coin or not
But instead of placing the coin in the poor man’s hand, Madge takes off running through the woods
Davon: “Madge, come back!”
Mr. Balkerin: “No please come back, I need that coin.” the old man says at first pleading then crying. “Come back.” he says snarling, angry that the hope of reuniting with his wife was suddenly taken away. “You need to bring that back; this is your final warning or you’ll be sorry. You’ll see. Just wait for what is to come!”
Davon takes off after Madge.
Davon: “Madge, wait up!” he says, running after her. “You always yell at me about not understanding this and that and no I don’t understand because all YOU ever do is get us into trouble.” he scowls as he finally catches up to her.
Madge: “But Davon you see none of that matters now! We have this special coin and we can make a wish. This is going to change everything and we won't have to do anything bad anymore.”
Davon: “We don’t even know where a wishing well is,” he pouts. That stuff never works only in stories.”
Madge: “The woods are very big. I am sure we can find one.”
They spent the next couple of moments wandering aimlessly and somehow came to a path they had never seen nor taken before. As if by some divine intervention they had been guided to this unknown path. As they made their way down this unfamiliar path it began to open into a small clearing with patches of tall green grass. And there in the middle of it sat a well….
