Yesterday was an exhausting day, all that training left me exhausted but eager to continue. By now everyone must be sleeping. I just lie in bed looking at the ceiling and remember everything that happened throughout this day, the first thing that comes to my mind is happiness. Very few times I was happy in my previous life, I can even count on the fingers of one hand the exact moments, but now everything is different as every day I am happy, although I feel a terrible feeling in my chest that everything can end overnight. I want to believe that this feeling is just a figment of my imagination, but I don't know, I honestly don't know. Various thoughts wander through my mind for a few more minutes until my eyes close.
"Good morning, Ray!" with a very loud tone of voice Rudd walks in through my bedroom door. "Wake up, it's time for breakfast, and also get ready your language lessons are back today."
Huh? I closed my eyes five minutes ago, how is it possible that it's already morning? I didn't sleep at all!
"Good morning to you too, Rudd." I say yawning. "I'll be up in a minute, give me a few minutes and I'll be right down."
"We're all waiting for you, so hurry up or there won't be any breakfast left for you."
"Wait, are they all awake, even mom?"
That's a big surprise.
"Yes, today is one of those special days," Rudd replies with a slight sarcastic smile as he retreats from my room.
Language classes. Right, since I started my magic training I've put my language classes on the back burner a bit. I already learned almost everything possible of Drakonn and Elvish, however with Areona I'm a bit behind, my pronunciation and writing are poor, I must not neglect.
I go to the bathroom, repeat what I do all morning, change my clothes and then go down to breakfast.
Everything goes as normal, a delicious breakfast with the family: a juice that has just been squeezed from a fruit that I don't yet know the name of but resembles, in taste, too much like an apple; a tea, several delicious breads and jams handmade by Saraa; and a few fruits picked and cut by Rudd. Mom and Asara just eat quietly.
"After breakfast we'll start our class, okay, Ray?" Rudd says as he eats a loaf of bread with jam.
I nod as I devour everything around me. I've never felt so hungry.
"Have a quiet breakfast first, then you can talk about what you'll do next," Saraa says as she takes a sip of tea.
"Since Rudd mentioned it, how are you doing with the language classes and magic training, Ray?" Mom says as she sets her cup of tea down on the table ending her breakfast. "It's been a few months since you stopped studying with me elvish and concentrated on learning areona."
The Elvish language was very easy to learn, I don't know why or if there is a special one, I imagined it would be more difficult.
"Asara and Rudd can vouch for me," I say as I continue with my breakfast.
"Uh... he's doing really well, Lilith." Asara replies in surprise, apparently she was lost in thought and I took her by surprise. "The important thing is that he's willing to learn, and that's very good, what took me a month to learn to him a mere week. I think that says a lot."
"Same around here, I've been teaching him for almost three years now and he's improved a lot since then. I think by the time he reaches his first seven years he will have learned everything I can teach him. Areona is not easy and he has proven to be up to the task at such a young age."
"That's very good news, keep it up Ray." Mom looks at me and smiles as she says those words. "Thank you girls, without you Ray would not make it as he is today. Thank you indeed."
You are right, much of what I have learned and who I am is thanks to all these women around me, from mom to Asara.
"Thank you Asara, thank you Rudd. I'm glad to have you as my mentors," I say with a big smile on my face and a crumb of bread in my right cheek. "And of course I'm not forgetting you, Saraa."
They both look at each other and just smile, Saraa continues with her tea.
After breakfast I go with Rudd to the library to continue studying areona. When the lessons are over, we all meet again for lunch. In the afternoon, I continue my magical training with Asara and in the evening we meet again for dinner. That was my routine for the next three months: breakfast, lunch and dinner all together until one day a certain person arrived and the routine changed, but the next day it was back to normal.
"If you could change things, would you do it? I would, but in this life you cannot go back to the past, there is no such power. My actions led me to the consequences I am currently living: my death. I regret many decisions I made throughout my short life, but I wonder: what will there be after death? a second chance? I pray that there is."
