I wanted to put this disclaimer at the very beginning of my story because a LOT has changed from when I first wrote it. The first half of the story is avaliable to buy via Amazon and you can find it by searching 'Adopted Vol. 1 by Rebeka Porter.' I made a lot of editorial decisions when editing the official version of Vol. 1 and one of those was changing Kayden's age. In the main storyline, he's 29 years old. In the final draft that you can purchase, he's 24 in the main storyline. I changed this for multiple reasons and one of them being that, after talking with a friend, I thought it would be better to make Kayden younger and shorten the age gap. I was very young when I first started writing this story and my views about age gaps has changed drastically. They're not always a bad thing. But in this instance, I felt it would be best to change it. Please keep this in mind as you read.
The next change I made was the type of language I use in relation to describing race, variety, and the use of the word diversity and how I ultimately describe certain things. There are moments in this first draft where the language I use, while not bad in any way, isn't the best way to describe certain things and situations. As a writer, I know I can do better and I have with the official version. The changes might seem small in the long run, but they do a world of wonder at the end of the day. I'm currently working on Adopted Vol. 2 which I'm hoping to publish at the end of this year (2022)!
The reason I'm explaining all of this is to let you, the reader, know that this version of Adopted is the first draft and hasn't undergone any type of editing past the initial read-through before I published it to Tapas. My readers were the motivation behind me deciding to publish this story via Amazon and I managed to do that last year! I still can't believe I wrote and edited an entire book in a year. It's crazy!
In order to keep Adopted up for free on Tapas, I haven't changed anything to match the official version that's on Amazon. What you're reading is the very first draft and every chapter I post will always be the first draft to this story. I didn't want to take this story away from my readers that have been nothing but kind and nice while reading and commenting on my story. As a way to balance everything, this first draft will always remain free while the official, edited versions will be avaliable on Amazon to purchase. Because of this, the story of Adopted on Tapas is a slightly different story than what's in the published book and future books to follow.
If you'd like to be updated about the published book versions, please follow my author account on Instagram @rebekaporter where I post almost daily updates about my writing.
With all that being said, I really hope you enjoy Adopted ^^ I think it's a great story and so many readers have given me an amazing chance to tell the story I want to tell. The community here is amazing and I hope to keep writing for many more years to come.
Kayden Smith had lived most of his life in an orphanage, stuck wondering why he was never chosen by a family all while keeping his past a secret.
One fateful night later, his entire life changes when he runs away and spills coffee all over a stranger. A stranger who just so happens to be the happiness Kayden has longed for. And we can't forget Eric...the unwanted boy that seems to break down Kayden's walls.

2/13/21 - I'm putting a disclaimer here that this story is meant for a mature audience as it will cover things like mental health, abuse, assault, and so on. It does have a lot of lightheartedness to it but some of the themes could be triggering. If you are easily triggered, please find a different story to read. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, no matter how unintentional.
*Book two is out! It's called Castlebrooke ^^ Go give it a read if you'd like another perspective to this world! It can also be read as a standalone ^^
