September 1st, 1868
I spent the last few days of August devoting all of my time to the kittens. (And I probably will spend all of September doing the same thing.) They’re growing steadily. I’m so proud of Juniper! She’s an excellent first-time mother, keeping them warm and groomed. Her kittens have gotten ever so slightly bigger, over the past week.
Even after experiencing the growth cats go through so many times, I’m still amazed at how much they grow the first few months. The little kittens change from an adorable cotton ball to a graceful and condescending cat. Although, there have been a few hilarious times where the cats grow up and have a slightly demonic look about them. Their fur ends up all ratty and their whiskers stick out in different directions. It's usually the squashed face cats that have this problem. Ivy is the exception amongst these squashed faced cats, she is the epitome of excellence. (Yes, I suppose I do spoil her.)
Fae has been helping me take care of the kittens. She loves little baby animals, maybe even more than I love cats. Her favorite way to spend spring is with the seasons foals, calves, and lambs. Like me, she avoids the goats. I'm not sure how the goats ended up in the Valley in the first place. I suppose they were already living on the cliffs when my family claimed the Valley. I think the only reason they're still around is for goat cheese. Otherwise Mother would have gotten rid of them by now.
Night has arisen and now it's time for me to lie down.
