Cloe wanted to become closer to the Lord. She joined a convent and became a Nun. Nuns historically take solemn vows and live a life of prayer and contemplation in convent. She lives in active vocation of prayer and charitable works in the education and healthcare. Missionaries of Charity founded in 1950 by Mother Teresa to care for people living in grave poverty.
Cloe first undergoes a period of testing the life for six months to two years called a postulancy. After the period was completed, she will receive a habit. Cloe couldn’t contact her family during the postulancy. She didn’t want to tell her parents she was joining the convent. Her father is a Baptist Minister and the belief of the convent or different. Nuns have three vows: chastity meaning they do not get married and of they are not allowed fornicate. Poverty meaning, they will not own property beyond except for a few person items out of necessity.
Obedience meaning to remain faithful to the teachings of God, the church, and to be obedient to their superiors. They are quite restricted and if they are to do anything outside of the rules of the convent, they are required to ask permission from their superior. While most would never want to live such a life, for a nun, it can be the most freeing as they are able to commit their whole beings to the love of their life. In a sense, marriage is just as restricting for a wife will forget herself and give and give to her spouse and children. There are times when she’ll scream and want to pull her hair out. There are times when she will get fed up with working so hard without appreciation. However, these frustrations are minor burdens compared to the love she had for her spouse and children. Statements made to a minister, priest, rabbi, or other religious leaders are generally considered privileged or confidential communications.
State laws generally exempt a pastor from having to testify in court, or to law-enforcement, about with that was discussed in a church confession. Several years after the disappearance of Carl and Cloe. Cloe believed that he must confess to the priest the incidents that occurred on the tragic day. She believed it was the only way to get forgiveness. Cloe entered into the confession and stated, “Father please forgive me. I have sinned. Many years ago. Carl came to the hospital where I was doing volunteer work and asked me to marry him. I had been in love with Carl since Elementary School. He was my childhood sweetheart and my best friend. I was happy and said yes. Carl insisted that we elope and go the Los Vegas and get married in a little wedding chapel.
Before going to wedding chapel were decided to visit the Grand Canyon. While exploring the Grand Canyon Carl made a confession to me. He was homosexual and wanted to marry me to cover up his sexuality. I was mad and started arguing with Carl. I thought he proposed to marry me because he loved me. That was not the truth. He was only going to hide his sexuality. He knew that he could deny the allegations of the football team by being married to a woman.
Carl wanted to go the college on a scholarship and become a professional football player. He knew if everyone found out he was a homosexual he would never be allowed to fulfill his dreams. I was angry and started yelling at Carl. He walks backwards to bring distance between us. He them walk off the cliff in the Grand Canyon. I knew he was dead. I just left him there and never told anyone. I was afraid. I joined the Covent to show my loyalty to God. I wanted to become close enough to him. I was close enough he would forgive me. I know it was an accident. I couldn’t stop him from falling off the cliff. If I would have not been made that day this never would had happened. I was so filled with anger that he had did this to me. I was hurt. I thought he loved me. He didn’t love me. He only wanted to hide his sexuality. Father will you please forgive me?”
The priest encouraged Cloe to call the police and let them know what happened. He agreed to go with Cloe when she talked to them. Cloe was afraid to go to the police. She kept repeating, “It was an accident. I didn’t mean for him to walk off the cliff. At that moment I was angry. I have been living with this since the accident. I will have to live with it for the rest of my life. Father will you please forgive me. The priest explained to Cloe she would never find peace until she reported it to the police. She also had to forgive herself. Eventually Cloe agreed to report the accident to Scarlett.
