Everyone turns to look. Men and women alike. For the few that didn’t turn to see my entrance, they’re told by their friends to look before they miss their chance to see me pass by. It was weird at first. Now I barely notice.
Before I get to my seat at the bar, the bartender is there to take my order. She doesn’t need to ask, but she does anyway.
“G & T?”
I give her a wink and she melts.
I take a seat with my back against the bar. Some young women playing pool are giggling. They’re trying to pretend they’re not looking at me. They pretend they’re focusing on their friend taking her shot.
She’s making no effort to hide that she’s devouring me with her eyes.
She hits the cue ball over off the table and it rolls towards me. I stop it with my foot. I don’t bother to pick it up. What’s the fun in that? She walks over with a smile across her face.
“I think that’s a scratch.”
“Sorry about that,” She purrs through her smile. “I guess I was distracted.”
She picks up the cue ball, being sure to graze against me the whole way down and even slower on the way back up.
“Did you want to join us?” She says, holding the cue ball in her hand. “Maybe you could give me some pointers on how to handle this?”
“Maybe later. I’m waiting on someone.”
She takes an extra second before turning around to her giddy friends, who are all waiting for the gossip for what just happened. She gives me another sultry look before rejoining them.
I thought this would get old after a while. It’s been a few weeks and it hasn’t one bit. I couldn’t get anyone’s attention before, let alone hold it if they bothered to give me any. Now, I’m climbing up the ladder at a new job by day and I’m with all kinds of women by night. 10 after 10. I couldn’t get a date before this.
It’s all worth it.
“Jay?”
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Amir. The look on his face is priceless.
“I can’t believe it. You look like a totally different person.”
“I am one, Amir,” I pull a card out from my jacket. “With this, you can be too.
