“Where is Mr. Acheron?” Eva asked Eloise as they descended the stairs. Eloise had come to help Eva get ready, making sure her makeup was done well and that her outfit was just right. Eva didn't have any experience with makeup or dressing up fancy, so even though she felt a bit awkward about it, she did not complain and just went along with what Gage had suggested she do. Eloise had been helping her for the last three days, working on a routine to help her skin look better. And in just those three days, Eva had been really surprised to see how much better she looked. She even started to joke that Eloise must have some special beauty magic!
Eva understood that she needed to appear completely different from the originally prim and proper Eva Young that people knew her to be. Her looks needed to be revamped and transformed from those of a plain Jane into those of a femme fatale. From now on, she would be Evelyn Lee, Gage Acheron’s sophisticated and hot personal secretary.
She was not planning to be styled by Eloise forever, though. She might be ignorant of the ins and outs of make-up and dress-up for now, but she had already planned to ask and observe everything Eloise and her assistant were doing so that, one day, she would be able to do all of these things perfectly by herself. Well…hopefully.
“He’s already dressed and prepped, Miss Lee. He’s currently waiting outside for you to be done.”
Eva sighed in relief at Eloise’s response. She was a little worried that the man was going to act difficult again and frustrate her with all his antics.
Once she stepped out of the main door, the first thing she saw was him, leaning against the car. He was tastefully dressed in a tailored black suit, well suited for his tall and broad frame, and was now looking as handsome as the devil. He was always handsome, though. But seeing Gage in a suit was just…it was as if black suits were invented in the first place just for him to put them on!
When their eyes met, the corner of his lips curled up.
“Hey, you are looking pretty great,” he said. She noticed his eyes seemed to shine with an appreciative gaze.
Eva just lifted a brow.
Eloise had told her that Gage was the one who had chosen her outfit today: A tight, black, high-waisted skirt and a red V-necked shirt, paired with a pair of black, pointy, two-inch heels.
The outfit accentuated her womanly curves and small, tapering waist so that she actually ended up looking very sexy. It never ceased to amaze Eva how clothing could completely transform one’s appearance, and even the whole feel of the person!
Hastily, Eva entered the car and informed their chauffeur that they needed to go now. Any later, and they would no longer be fashionably late.
Once they were out of the mansion’s gate, Eva spoke again. “Please speed up, as we need to be there on time.”
“Easy, Miss Lee. There is no need to rush. Just sit there and relax. We’ll get there when we get there.” Gage was calm as he said those words to her. Well, he was incredibly calm and relaxed, as if he were not on his way for the first day of work, but on his way to a vacation.
Eva could not help but breathe out slowly to keep from losing her temper so early in the day. She forced herself to sit back and shut her mouth, because he was right; she needed to calm down. Usually, she was always calm and collected no matter what.
But this was different because she had to put up an act and watch herself so that she would not mess up her disguise. She was always that woman who was comfortable in her own skin. She didn't care if people mocked her appearance and outfits.
It was different if people tried to mock her leadership and her brains, though. She would even go as far as to demote someone whom she had personally caught slandering her intelligence and leadership, but she just downright ignored the ones who milled around, gossiping about her appearance, even if she was hearing them with her own two ears. She did not give two hoots if her appearance or dressing were being called into question. Any slight to her IQ and abilities, however… she would go after them like the devil was on their heels.
“Eva, darling?” His voice and those words were like a spear that shattered the walls she had created around her for her own personal space.
“Stop calling me that, Mr. Acheron. We’re technically at work right now, so please address me accordingly.” She shot him a strict look, expecting him to understand the situation and react appropriately.
“You know…for a moment there, you looked very much like Evangeline Young when you glared and spoke so strictly like that. Evelyn Lee should be a sweet and sophisticated lady, don’t you think?” he commented lightly as his eyes returned a challenging look back at her.
Eva was at the verge of biting her lip but thankfully, Eloise’s voice echoed in her head, effectively stopping her in time.
A long and deep sigh was drawn from her lips. She seriously needed to calm down.
Suddenly, she remembered the thing that she had been pondering while Eloise was doing her make-up.
“By the way, Mr. Acheron,” she started, her expression back to being calm. “Why did you sleep in my bed last night? Our contract stated that I only need to warm your bed.”
