The Seven Sins Series

Craving Purity C9

May 20, 2022

"You're pale!" Elijah exclaimed, sitting next to Levi in the backseat. "Is us being two of the seven sins really that scary?"

Levi blinked a few times, trying to get his mind to stop being so surprised and calmed down. "No... just wasn't expecting it," he muttered, his heart covered by a strange warmth when he saw how concerned Elijah was for him.

Elijah made a clicking sound with his mouth and felt Levi's forehead, checking to see if he was running a fever. He'd never seen someone pale so quick and it was freaking him out, especially because it was his soulmate.

"I'm okay," Levi promised, pulling his face away from Elijah's hand. "Just got a little lightheaded."

At those words, Elijah turned to the front seat and begged Greyson to stop at the nearest convenience store. When they parked, Elijah made his two soulmates stay in the car while he ran inside.

"Where's he going?" Levi asked.

Greyson shrugged, a look of adoration gracing his face. "Probably to pick up all of the pills that could potentially heal someone from getting lightheaded."

Levi felt another warm coat wrap itself around his heart. "Oh." He caught a glance of Greyson typing something on his phone about new diamonds for his store, and a sudden realization hit him. "You gave me a discount because you realized I was your soulmate, right?"

A smile made its way to Greyson's lips and he turned in his seat to look at Levi. "Yes. I didn't want you spending all of your money on a ring for someone that wasn't myself or Elijah," he said, his voice taking on a possessive tone. "And that's also why Elijah was being so envious when you were in the store. He didn't want to fathom the idea that you were in love with someone else."

"I wasn't," Levi said, disgust written all over his face. "I wanted to get better and I thought she could help to heal me, but she was cheating on me."

Greyson gave him a piteous look. "Does the healing you're talking about have to do with why you always wear long sleeves?" he asked. "And why you panicked at the club?"

Levi's gut filled with pain. "I..."

Thankfully, he didn't have to answer right away, as Elijah leapt into the car, holding a giant bag. He pressed himself next to Levi and began to pull out drinks filled with electrolytes, ordering Levi to start sipping on them.

Levi saw Greyson look at him with pity and desire in his eyes before he turned away and started the car.

They arrived at the mansion a half an hour later, with Elijah telling Levi all about himself and the other sins, how they all left Hell hundreds of years before so they could find their soulmates and live a new life, and all about the sins and who they were.

"Paxton, he's also Pride, is the kind of leader of our group," Elijah said as they got out of the car. "He's self obsessed and acts like he doesn't care about anyone, but we all know that he cares a lot and wants what's best for us sins. He's really judgmental at first, though, so we'll tell him to knock it off if he's being a total dick."

Greyson wrapped his arm around Elijah's waist. "Babe, don't talk his ear off," he said, kissing the side of Elijah's forehead.

Elijah groaned, rolling his eyes. "But I like to talk!" he exclaimed, before looking at Levi shamefully. "Sorry."

"I don't mind you talking," Levi said in a soft voice, a real smile tugging at his lips. "I don't talk much so it makes up for my lack of words. Plus, what you're saying is interesting."

Elijah looked about ready to marry Levi right then and there. "Aw!" he cooed, rushing over to his quiet soulmate and hugging him. "Just tell me if you ever need me to shut up, though."

"Please," Greyson added, joining the pair and sandwiching Levi in the middle of them as they walked inside the mansion.

Seeing the mansion the second time around was much nicer, since Levi didn't feel that he was in danger and needed to make a break for it. He could tell that the sins were all rich, as the whole mansion seemed to be covered in gold, the floors made of polished marble and it could have easily been mistaken for a hotel. There was even an elevator in the hall between the entryway and the kitchen!

"Wow," Levi whispered, looking around the gorgeous entryway and finding a huge vase of pink roses on a table with a mirror behind it. "You guys really spared no expense."

Greyson and Elijah both seemed to stand taller because of his words.

"We're immortal, Levi," Greyson said, a fact that Levi had assumed but not been told. "If we're staying here for hundreds of thousands of years, we may as well enjoy it."

Footsteps made by high heels echoed in the entryway, and a woman with dark skin entered the room, her gold makeup matching the chandelier and rail of the stairs.

"That's Gale," Elijah said as Gale approached them. "Or Gluttony, but we prefer our chosen human names."

Gale shook Levi's hand, but her lips were pursed and she seemed confused. "Who is this?" she inquired, circling Levi suspiciously. "You've never enjoyed playing around with humans in the past."

Levi blushed, embarrassed that she seemed to think he was only there for Greyson and Elijah's pleasure.

"We don't," Greyson spat, offended for his soulmate. "This is Levi. Our soulmate."

Gale's eyes widened. "Your... soulmate?"

"Is there a problem?" Elijah asked, grabbing Levi's hand and glowering at Gale.

"No," Gale said, her eyes still locked on Levi. "I just didn't expect you two to have a human soulmate. At all."

Greyson and Elijah relaxed when she proved she wasn't judging them through her words.

"Well, we do," Greyson said, Elijah nodding in agreement. "Greed is a part of who I am, and I suppose my two soulmates prove it."

Gale pursed her lips again and snapped her fingers in front of Levi's face, making him jump back in surprise. "Huh. He's not even under a trance."

"Yeah, because we talked to him and he believes us," Elijah said, irritated that Gale was getting close to Levi. "Step away from him."

"Don't be so jealous. You know I don't prefer men."

Elijah glared at her as she walked away, saying she needed to start dinner. Once she'd left them, Greyson and Elijah took Levi on a tour of the mansion, letting him peek in every room and shyly meet all of the sins, except for Paxton because he was still at work, as well as Simon and Kayden who had a "do not disturb" sign on their door.

"Poor Kayden," Elijah said as they passed the room, his words making Levi tense up. "Oh, no, don't worry, he's probably having a great time, but the kid is going to be exhausted!"

"How old is Kayden?" Levi asked, remembering how young the boy looked when they briefly met. "He looks really young."

Greyson saw the horror in Levi's face and couldn't help but laugh. "He's not a minor, don't worry!" he said, taking a risk and wrapping his arm around Levi's thin waist. "Kayden is nineteen and he's Simon's personal assistant."

"And he's... Sloth?" Levi asked, and Elijah nodded in response. "How does he own a company if he's lazy?!"

Elijah giggled. "He's smart! He knows how to charm people and he's got enough money to pay people to do his work for him, and while he may procrastinate, he always gets his work done," he explained, skipping toward the living room and jointed kitchen, sinking down on the couch.

"Isn't... Lexi one of you?" Levi asked, realizing he hadn't seen Lexi yet.

Greyson nodded while Elijah huffed and crossed his arms.

"Elijah is still a bit annoyed with him," Greyson said, releasing Levi's waist and sitting down beside Elijah, pulling the latter into his lap. "Lexi really doesn't mean any harm and his goal was to get Elijah jealous so he could get over his sadness, but Lexi didn't realize that it made it seem like he was trying to steal you."

Elijah's jaw was tight, his angry and jealous gaze was fixed on the floor. "He touched Levi before we even got the chance," he muttered, skin beginning to tinge green. "Stupid Lust."

Greyson sighed and put his hands on Elijah's hips. "You know that Lexi would never steal our soulmate," he whispered into Elijah's ear. "Our soulmate is here right now and you're making him uncomfortable with your jealousy."

Elijah's eyes widened and he forced himself to calm down so his skin faded back to its normal pale color. He climbed off of Greyson's lap and made space in between himself and Greyson, holding his arms out to Levi.

"Come sit with us," he pleaded.

Levi didn't know why he felt his own pang of jealousy when he saw Greyson and Elijah acting so lovey with each other, but he ignored the feeling and slid into the spot between them.

For someone who hated most physical affection, Levi didn't feel unsafe. For being demons, and two of the seven sins at that, Levi didn't feel afraid like he did when other people touched him randomly. It was as if his very being knew that he was safe with the two, even if his mind didn't fully believe it yet.

Elijah suddenly moved his hand and cupped Levi's cheek, his eyes dazzling with unspoken excitement.

Levi blushed as he stared at Elijah, feeling Greyson move behind him and pull Levi into his lap with Elijah moving to straddle both Levi and Greyson's thighs.

Elijah leaned in to lock their lips together, but the closer he moved, the more insecure Levi felt.

After feeling safe seconds before, a sudden wave of discomfort and self consciousness filled the air around him, and Levi pulled himself away from both Greyson and Elijah, his heart racing.

He tried to calm down, but he couldn't, his entire being screaming at him for being so foolish.

"You really think they want you?" the evil voice in Levi's head asked. "They just got you to their house and tried to make out with you, idiot. Have you learned nothing from your past? They just want to use you and leave you on the side of the road. These are demons we're talking about!"

Levi felt tears well in his eyes as the voice went on.

"Such an idiot," it said, giggling evilly. "Even demons who you've only met a few times know you're just a toy to use. They love each other, not you! They just want to play with you and leave you out on the side of the road!"

"Levi?" Greyson asked, creeping toward the human, but Levi backed away, tripping on his feet.

"Fool!" the voice screeched. "Now he's towering over you and you're not fast enough to escape! Worthless, stupid, ugly human!"

"Take me home," Levi begged, his mind telling him to escape and get away from the two. "Please take me home."

A sick, uneasy pit formed in Elijah’s stomach, as he felt responsible for scaring Levi and making him want to leave.

"Elijah, go to our room and stay there, please," Greyson asked, though his tone was firm, and for the first time around Levi, Elijah didn't protest and ran off. "Levi, I'm going to take you home, okay?"

Levi got up and followed Greyson to the car, sliding into the backseat. When they got to his apartment, before Levi could run off, Greyson locked the doors.

"Give me your phone," he said, and Levi obeyed, handing him the phone with shaky hands. "I'm putting my number in, okay? That way if you need anything, at any hour of the day, you call me and I'll help you."

Levi took his phone back, relieved that Greyson didn't press him to explain his sudden fear and backing out of the kiss with Elijah.

"Goodnight, Levi," Greyson said to himself after Levi had left in silence, shutting his apartment door behind him.
