The second brother bared his fangs in a smile while the third brother nervously stepped forward and spoke.
“Little pig was the meal-“ The third wolf stepped forward while talking in wolf ’s tongue.
A series of growls, snarls, and low howls, but he was cut off by several high-pitched squeals.
The ears on top of his head became flat, his entire body became nervous.
Whining low, the third wolf looked at his two elder brothers, nervously licking his lips.
The Guardian Hyena.
She felt that something was wrong. Muzzle still stained with blood, a bone in her mouth she stiffened before quickly swallowing it.
“No!” she howled.
Turning her head, she crouched and leapt high in the air, pushing off once more in an effort to reach the pigs quicker. It is just … she was too slow.
“No!”
Upon reaching the entrance, she was greeted by the stench of her kin. The pigs. Approaching closer, she saw that there were various scents that were hard to identify, but she still recorded them in her scent glands.
Turning around, she followed them. One by one she attacked them, sinking her claws and fangs into their forms.
The cries of pain echoed in the otherwise silent Marsh. They should not be here. They don’t belong here! Yet they appeared silently and slaughtered her Kur !
So what if her form is of the guardian?! She is still a pig! They were her kin! The last!
{Hyena laughter} she felt choked by it. A clawed foot aimed at her neck but the powerful jaws bit down, shaking her head as she lifted up the feathered beast and shook it tearing off the leg.
‘What are you? You reek of pig but your form…’ the beast screeched, it paused eyes widening beak parting, struggling to ease away but failed when the guardian lunged forward and bit down once again, crushing the head between powerful jaws. ‘Unworthy!’
Finished, the guardian emitted a laughing howl.
Taking revenge. It felt good, but seeing that in this world, she would be the only one left.
Those she was to protect were slaughtered.
The guardian sat on her haunches; her proud head was bowed. There was a feeling of despair.
A feeling that she had truly failed once again in such a foolish way.
The lives flashed, no matter how much she tried to protect those who kept the world balance they kept dying. A prompt sounded in her mind. Her body trembled.
[Guardian. You have failed once more.] The Hyena released a strained laugh unique to her kind. She felt aggrieved somehow. Not even a sun, had she entered this world, and she had failed.
Why?
Then she is not qualified?
Allowing them to live freely?
Should they be given freedom, though?
If she is a pig ‘guised as a Hyena guardian who is still a wolf and had tried her best and failed, then it is best to take away their freedom.
The ones she was to protect had attacked her mortal form. The memories had confused her, and she only wished to explore her new territory and calm her mind but she-
[Those that kept balance to this world were slaughtered. You will be punished by being imprisoned for ten thousand universal years. The luck accumulated will be deducted by half. Your souls that have been fractured due to the last punishment will be sent to a low rank world.]
The Hyena made a sound of pain. Chains appeared, tearing the space to imprison her; encircling the neck and six paws.
The four eyes widened, pupils dilating. She saw the three wolves burst forth. Suddenly, she wanted to fight and rush to them.
To have them surround her and—A green space appeared, swallowing the struggling Hyena.
At that moment, the wind blew, and the blue flakes of snow slowly fell. With this, the three wolves whined, feeling as though their psyche was being fractured.
{Boom!}
There was a sound followed by memories from their previous lives, which played out suddenly. They stumbled, freezing.
“No!” There was a pained howl.
How can the wolves be reconciled after remembering their previous lives?
Where the smaller wolf previously was, the air distorted, the world shifted and a massive blue wolf almost tripled in size appeared.
Two more wolves appeared; one red and the other a cloudy grey. Both parted their fang-filled Jaws, releasing low whines.
Once the blue wolf had finished with his howling of loss, he scanned the surroundings, but saw that she was truly gone.
The younger litter mates whined low. The scarlet wolf pawed the ground, trying his best to stay calm, but the loss was too great, paired with the memories that continued to filter in. He felt that it was a nightmare!
“Brother. Eldest brother…”
“She… I don’t understand. Second brother…” The blue wolf said in a pained tone.
“Why? How?” the youngest from among the wolves whined, his tail drooping.
In the memories rapidly flashing by, they had been wolves who had—it was her!
The female they had chased each time but whenever they were close, they failed.
She died.
Over and over, she died!
Their first lives they had tried to defend her—within the wolf stumbled, the—past clan, but the hate for humans who had oppressed them, forcing them to dwell deep in the dark woods was too much. The hate caused the three who had tried to save and defend her to die.
How the male wolves had rutted her, how she had screamed. The second wolf whined. Crouching, the memory passed quickly ushered into the next one. “Brother Wolf, it is not true, no?”
This was the third wolf who had attempted to speak to her not too long ago.
Lost in shock.
The blue wolf could not reply, seeking answers as well, but gaining none. A while later, the blue wolf raised his massive head and sniffed the air separating the scents.
He scented the Aerens, the blood of the deceased pigs blanketed the air, and the potent scent of prey in the distance.
