Jude set their visor goggles down on the desk a blue ring wrapping around them from the wireless connection with the desk and the wall behind it lights up with a red R on screen for a call. "You sure you got them all?" comes from the desk and Jude nods sitting down in front of the table. One of them finally speaks.
"What the heck... I heard you got hurt in an attack by the resistance... not that you were one of them." Jude spoke a bit shocked to hear from Regi so soon subconsciously fixing their hair.
"I was... but What my family or anyone else for the matter didn't know was I was trying to help them... I'm a sympathizer but when they saw what I could do and the story of the attack made it seem like I would hate them... they let me join that's how I got the resources to search out information on you and your dad..." Regi spoke hidden behind the R symbol
"You... God you're risking a lot you know... And let's be clear my dad's dead... all that's left of him is his book and a kid that doesn't even know what's going on with themselves." Jude said a bit drained by using the spell and this whole conversation now.
"I know... I'm sorry... But what you did there, it's amazing... just being able to clear out surveillance equipment from a distance is amazing..." Regi says before replaying the video over the screen of Jude using their ability. "How does it work... why didn't it take your visor... I mean. This is a next level thing is it mutations... magic... how--" As he theorizes Jude clears his throat.
"I have no idea... Okay... Just... it's some weird shit my father figured out... it took years just to figure this out and I don't even understand it myself let alone know if it's safe..." Jude says a bit harsh in tone done with this. "Look normally I'd love to talk with you but right now I'm just tired... it's a drain to do that and this is crazy... I got to get ready to meet my niece too. I'll talk with you later." Jude says softly hanging up before Regi can get another word in.
Jude sighs a light flush on their cheeks. "I can't believe Regis already seen me... I was not ready for that..." Jude mumbles to themselves tossing the visors on the bed before laying down on it halfheartedly. They put them on setting an alarm for an hour before laying down to rest. taking a nap. They get dressed in a fresh pair of their new clothes and try to fix their hair best they can, wearing their goggles like headphones around their neck with the strap loosened.
Jude simply waits until their sister comes over to get them to meet Judith outside. They get out Judith lightly playing with their fingers a bit nervous.
"It will be fine, I told her a few stories about you. I'm sure she will warm to you quickly." Alice says warmly trying to calm her sibling.
"Yeah... thanks... I hope you didn't make me sound like a total idiot, I was a kid." They laugh a little nervously but take a deep breath in through the nose and out the mouth. Trying to calm down before the buss arrives.
Soon enough the hover pulls in and a couple kids get off Alice says goodbye to a neighbor's kid and runs into Alice's waiting hug lifted by her mother in her arms and she hugs back tight.
"Hey mommy. Your off early!" Judith says excitedly as she's set back down.
"Yeah, I am. I had a very special day today and got off early... there's someone special I want you to meet. "Alice says a hint of nerves but mostly warmth to her voice before she turns on her heels lightly and points to Jude.
Jude kneels down with a light smile and Judith takes a step forward looking at them softly. Her focus quickly shifting to their hair.
"Wow... your hairs really pretty. It is like a rainbow I drew!" She says excitedly making Jude smile with a sparkle in their eye.
"I would love to see it Hehe, but my hairs not the special part to me... at least not the only one. I'm your mom's sibling... I found my way back..." They say with a light hint of nervousness and Judith looks confused to her mom.
"I... Thought you said you had a little brother...? And that he went far away, and we wouldn't be able to meet." Judith asked. It had been a while since she asked about her mom's sibling and her mom didn't want to expose her to death just then.
"Well... they did a lot of changing... some people don't stay boys or girls... My... Sibling is one of those people they prefer they them... Like that nice older person that used to baby sit Mx. Danvers" Alice said softly looking to Jude to make sure they explain everything well both adults standing up lightly. "But... what really matters is now that they are back, you'll be able to spend time with them and get to know them, they will be staying with us for a bit." Alice says with a light smile clearly a bit happy reminding herself that her sibling was back.
Judith looks to her then looks at Jude and gives a light smile. "Okay, that could be fun I can show them my drawings and go out and show them around while you work. So, I won't be alone after school right?" She asks happily.
"Yeah, I'll be setting up work so I won't be away from the house much and I will be working at the school so I can come home with you." Jude says happily as they lightly walk back inside.
"Oh... that's cool I can show you all over. Are you a teacher?" Judith askes excitedly.
"Not quite, I'll be a teacher's assistant, but I might help some of your teachers in class."
They have a late lunch together Judith happily adding one of the new oranges to her lunch. Judith is more then happy to spend the whole time talking about art and plants. Finding Jude's stories of how plants made the dyes for their hair amazing; bugging Alice about dyeing her hair much to Alice's joking annoyance and refusal. Eventually Judith wants to visit the arboretum like they planned, Jude stays behind claiming them want rest and have had enough new places today. So, they go leaving Jude alone in the house to settle in.
The rest of the day Jude skims through some books on basic courses for their job. Mostly the changes had to do with ark history, going into depth over riots in other arks. And the politics. By most standards Ark 3 was one of the safer of the 5 arks. Its design was one of the better ones. Its security was capable. People could feel safe here if they didn't go against the Ark, so most people didn't. Jude had a basic education most people could get thanks to smuggled out data drives taken from the ark. But eventually their mind trails off to other things.
Picking up the locked leather journal. It wasn't a normal lock. Its keyhole had no key in existence. A decoy to the real mechanism. The screw at the bottom needed to be turned like a combination lock. Jude carefully turns in the digits 2000 an ancient time that has little meaning now but in truth it was the first digits of Alice's birth year and the last digits of Jude's birth year. Opening it up to the first few pages. Strange images and words. Maybe a forgotten language from before the events. Maybe a code or decoy that couldn't be understood because its maker passed long age... Maybe it was the ramblings of a mad man... Going further into the book to one of the first semi readable pages with the word Pherusa highlighted. The page next to it has a crease of folds. Jude carefully redoes them. The scribbles and letters forming a drawing of someone vanishing and reappearing... It took months to figure out just the first handful of pages and another month to get the first "spell" and Jude still understood so little...
Taking out their book they look over notes they scribbled just as crazily trying to hide their own thoughts but no real right or reason their code was a simple first letter of every word forms the real message. Putting it together simply spelled. "Stop Icarus. Pherusa is teleport. Next maybe attack." The next page is an image of An arrow and a wall. Setting it next to their dad's book open to a page of lines and symbols overlaying the two to show how different symbols connect to form the two shapes. "Just got to find out how to do it in this garbled mess." Jude sighed annoyed closing both books, hiding them away in the lock box before putting it under their clothes in the dresser.
They spend the rest of the evening reading over old news articles before starting to look into that attack on the grav-trains. It happened a few months ago. Right after Jude had started hunting for the secrets in the journals again. Apparently, most people were evacuated except for a few rebels and Reginald Davenport, son of a military officer, studying advanced computer technology and cyber security in the cerebrum and at that moment their hostage. They required intense medical care after the rebels decided to create a detonation of a Fuel line in the train when they failed to take over the train, killing several rebels and guards attempting to secure the train and rescue the hostage. The remaining rebels escaped or were captured due to injuries and the hostage was safely treated. No more information of worth was on the report of note. At least not the public one.
"Wonder how much of that is true..." Jude mumbled to themselves shutting off the news feed. Jude ate one of their nutria-cubes for dinner, it was a strange geometric cube of biomass. A jelly like suspension with small bits and dustings of powders in it, as they bite into the palm size cube like an apple, they cough in surprise looking at the package. 'Ark-Tech Nutri-Cube A meal in a cube, portable, shelf stable, cheap. Flavor additive: Caffeinated coffee cake' "Shit grabbed the wrong one. I'm going to be up all night..." Jude says with a defeated sigh sitting back in bed while they go back to reading information of the cerebrum classes.
