Hey readers this Blankskies just a warning this chapter contains some verbal abuse
I left Felix and went to sit in the stands. I took a seat in the front row of the bleachers. I was a little shaken seeing Liam again. He seemed different from the last time I saw him. He was never so mean. It just brought up all my past pain seeing my former best friend act so horribly to me. I was so upset I just wanted to go home. But I wanted to be here to support Felix. So I just had to just try my best to focus on cheering for Felix.
“Hey Trevor,” a female voice said. I turned and saw that it was Kerri.
“Hey Kerri,” I said.
“So are you here cheering on Felix,” She asked.
“Yeah, I am. I am not really into sports but Felix wanted me to come and see him play,” I said.
“Yeah, I am the same way. I am a big sports fan, but it's fun to see Jackson play,” She said.
“Yeah, I never went to any football games at my old school so this is all pretty new to me,” I said
“Really. Then should come and hang out with my friends and me. These games can get pretty boring without someone to talk to,” She said.
“Are you sure I don’t want to be a bother,” I said.
“Don’t worry about that. And I am dying to know what's going on between you and Felix,” She said. She then grabbed my arm and started pulling me toward her group of friends. “Guys this is Trevor. He is new to our school,” I gave them a little wave. “Trevor this is Amy, Emma, and Jossie,” She said pointing to each girl as she introduced them. All the girls were wearing football jerseys probably with their boyfriend's numbers on them.
“So do all of you have boyfriends on the football team,” I asked.
“Yes, we do. I am Darren's girlfriend, Emma’s boyfriend is Keith, and Jossie is dating Ray,” Amy said.
“So Trevor is it true that you are gay,” Emma asked.
“Emma you shouldn’t ask him that. Trevor you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to,” Kerri said.
I was quite surprised these girls didn’t seem like bad people like their boyfriends. “It’s fine Kerri. Yes, I am gay,” I said answering Emma's question. I was waiting for their face to show signs of disgust.
“Oh my god, that is so amazing. You definitely have to hang out with us,” Jossie said.
“Jossie we don’t want him just because he is gay. We want him here because he seems like a nice guy,” Kerri said.
“So Trevor is are dating Felix is that why you wearing his jersey. Oh my, it's like when the quiet new boy gets the attention of the popular jock. It's like the romance novel I was reading,” Jossie said.
“Jossie stop fan girling over him. Sorry about her Trevor she is really into yaoi and just gushes over male friendships because she thinks that they would make great couples,” Kerri said.
I just couldn’t help but laugh these girls weren’t anything that I expected. I don’t understand how great girls like these are dating jerks. “It’s fine you are right Felix is my boyfriend, but we are just trying to keep things on the down-low,” I said. I figured
The girls all squealed in joy. I was so loud I had to cover my ears. “Oh my god, Trevor that is so amazing. You two make such a cute couple. And don’t worry we won’t tell anybody,” Kerri said.
The game soon started the girls and I talked and watched the game together. It was nice to make some more friends at this school. The game was going pretty well. The team from Glandile was having a hard time stopping Felix. I was impressed I figured that he was good, but he was just incredible. The game finally was in the fourth quarter the score was 32 to 23. There were only five minutes left on the board. The team made the pass to Felix he was still going strong running with the ball with Darren in front of him. The other team was rushing towards him. I think it was Liam. Liam and the other members kept charging toward Felix. Instead of blocking Liam, Darren moved out of the way and let Felix get tackled. It was a pretty hard tackle even from the stands I heard Felix go down hard. Liam and his teammates pilled on Felix. After the referee blew the whistle the other team got off Felix. Everyone thought the game was going to continue, but there was just an issue Felix wasn’t getting up. I heard him scream in pain as the coach and referee went to check on him. I rushed from the stands and started running towards him. I didn’t care if I wasn’t supposed to be on the field I just needed to check and make sure. I rushed to his side pushing myself through members of both teams. As I ran by I saw Liam and his friends laughing. The couch called the EMTs and they rushed over carrying a stretcher. A stretcher was brought out and the EMTs carried him on it. I followed the EMTs to the ambulance.
“Sorry kid you need to stand back,” an EMT said.
“Please I need to ride with him,” I begged tears running down my face.
“Sorry kid we're only allowing family or the coach to ride along,” The EMT said.
“Trevor, Trevor,” Felix moaned his voice was hoarse he was in a lot of pain. The coach walked over to Felix. Felix whispered something to the coach. The coach went and talked to the EMT for a bit. The coach then walked over to me.
“Your Trevor right kid,” the coach asked. I nodded my head. “You can ride along with him. I talked to the EMT and told him that Felix wants you to ride with him. I have to call his parents anyway. So they agreed that it was okay if you rode along,” I was so grateful I hopped in the back of the ambulance with the EMTs. I looked at Trevor's body on the stretcher. He looked real dazed. His leg was starting to swell. It was clear it was broken.
“Hey, kid don’t worry your friend is going to be alright. He just has a broken leg and maybe a concussion. When we get to the hospital to are going to run some tests and if there was any damage to the brain,” The EMT said.
It was a little comforting hearing this, but I was still worried. We got to the hospital to hospital. They carried Felix to the hospital. They took him to get some test run. I wasn’t allowed to go back while they were running the test. So I sat in the waiting room waiting to hear from the doctor. I waited for a few minutes. I was starting to get impatient. I wanted to see him. I wanted to see that he was okay. “Trevor is that you. Oh my god have they said anything about Felix,” I turned and saw it was Felix’s mother. She and the rest of Felix’s family had came to the hospital.
“We came as soon as we got the call from the coach. Have they told you anything yet,” She asked. She was upset but she was trying to hold together for her younger children.
“I’m sorry they haven’t told me anything,” I said. She then hugged me.
“Don’t worry sweety I will go ask the desk,” She said. She then walked to the front desk and I was alone with Felix’s dad and siblings.
“Those Glandile kids did a number on him. Didn’t they. I told the coach they needed to work on defense, but I saw how they played the first few games this season, and nothing changed,” His dad said trying to make conversation with me.
“Yeah,” I said. agreeing with him even though I didn’t know exactly what he was talking about. The conversation ended there his father wasn’t much of a conversationalist and wasn’t up to trying to force the conversation. After a few minutes, his mother came back.
“So they ran test he just has a broken leg and a just a mild concussion. He will probably be out most of the season,” His mother said.
“Okay I'm glad it's nothing serious,” I said. I tried my best not to start crying but it was hard. I was so worried about Felix. I am glad he is okay. Right now Felix was the best thing in my life. I was just so worried that something bad would happen to him. I tried my best to hold back my tears, but soon they started falling down my face. I couldn’t hold back my tears anymore I just started crying. I was upset and frustrated. I then felt arms wrap around me. His mother and siblings were trying to comfort me. Here I was in the waiting room of the hospital crying when I knew his family was just as upset as I was, but here they were comforting me.
“Trevor sweetie they said we could go see Felix now,” His mom said. I walked back to Felix's hospital room with his family. He was wearing a hospital gown. They put his leg in a cast.
“Hey everybody what are you all doing here,” Felix said. His words were slurring they must have given him some pain meds to help with the pain.
“How are feeling honey,” His mom asked.
“I am doing great. I am really glad you’re all here,” He said.
“Felix does your leg hurt,” His sister Maggy asked.
“No don’t worry about your big bro Mags I feel like a hundred bucks,” Felix said.
“More like you got ran over by a hundred bucks,” His brother Tyler said.
“Yeah you’re probably right Ty but I am feeling good,” He said. It was pretty impressive that even with the pain pills he still must be feeling some pain. Yet he is still trying to act like it isn’t a big deal. “So did anyone else come with you guys,”
“Um yeah, Trevor is here with you,” His mom said pushing me in front of the group.
“Oh Trevor you are here I didn’t see you because you are just so tiny,” He said
“I’m not tiny you jerk I am 5.9 anyone would be considered tiny next to you big oaf,”
“Uh oh looks like I made him mad. Come on don’t be mad at me I'm in the hospital and I broke my leg. You need to be nice to me,” He said. I walked up to his bed a flicked his forehead. “Ow mom Trevors picking on me,”
His mom just laughed. “Come on boys play nice. Felix, you should be nice to your friends and Trevor let's wait until Felix is out of the hospital before you boys start ruffhosuing. Do I make myself clear,” She said in a soft but firm tone.
“Yes ma'am,” We both said at the same time.
“So did the doctors say when I can leave,” Felix asked.
“The doctors said that they wanted to keep you overnight to make sure you are okay,” His mom said.
“Okay, Trevor can you stay with me,” He asked.
“Felix Trevor probably has to go home,” His mom said. I looked at Felix his eyes told me that he didn’t want to be left alone tonight.
“No ma'am it's alright. I can stay if that's alright with you,” I said
“That's fine. I will go ask the nurse to bring you a blanket and a pillow so you can sleep on the couch,” His mom said.
“Thank you, ma'am,” I said.
“Okay, then Felix we will be going home. We will come back in the morning to get you,” His mom said. His family hugged him goodbye and then left and I was left alone with Felix.
“I am sorry. I guess we missed homecoming. Didn’t we.” He said.
“Don’t worry about it. School dances aren’t really my thing I just wanted to go with you,” I said. I then pulled up a chair next to his hospital bed and sat down. I then held his hand. His hand was bigger than mine. It was also rougher, but at the same time, it was also comforting. I tried to stay strong in front of him but I couldn’t hold back my tears.
“Trevor don’t cry I’m alright,” he said.
“I was so worried. I saw you go down, and I was just so shaken,”
“Don’t cry Trev this happens sometimes in football,” Felix said trying to comfort me.
“I know but when I saw you go down and not get up I was so worried. Don’t scare me like that you big oaf,” I said.
“Yes sir next time I will try to dodge better will that make you feel better,” He said.
“Good because you really scarred me,” I said. I just held on to him. We both soon drifted off to sleep.
