Karsen's compability with the magic crystals were really bad, so getting rid of the connection really helped him out. However, had he felt that he could handle them better, he would probably have liked to keep the connection. Would the pangee society let him do that? I suppose it depends on how dangerous he might've been considered (some ladies who can't control their connection get the same procedure as well, but it's less common)...
