Tobias stands in front of the girl's closed door, the fake white painted wood staring back at him from all angles as he eyes the door handle, trying to see if she'll notice his presence by just knowing he's outside the door. He's nervous and he knows that. All those painful memories come back from what they used to be back in freshman year of high school.
Yes, they were young and dumb then but he still loves her with his whole heart, even if they had their differences and different needs it didn't need to end on how it did. The rumors and overreactions weren't needed yet they were there and made everything worse. It was painful to come back to that thought for the boy, but even the girl could say the same with her thoughts towards him. Colton was the only one trying to keep them stable to some degree before Lianna told Marce, Lulu, and Jacky, she hadn't told anyone else aside from them while Tobias told Riyu, Colton, and Mathias. So it was an equal amount of tellage between the two who were involved. So seeing them here, together in the same house for half a year, as friends seems like it was one of the greatest moves the universe had ever pulled.
"YEAH! BEAT IT WITH THE NET!" An eruption of laughter unfogs the boy's mind as he realizes his hand was still a few inches from the door. In his mind he was panicking but before anything, adrenaline kicked in and he bit the bullet. Knocking on the door, he backs away a step, letting the girl have some room so he wouldn't be right up against her when she opened the door.
"Hey, sorry if we were loud..." The girl looked up to see the boy's face, her voice leaving her mouth before she could say anymore.
"Lia, who is-- Oh hey To-baised."
"Hey." The three stand or sit in silence, the girl in front of the boy trying to process what just happened. "Lia?"
There it was again
"Lia? Hellooooo, you there?"
"Yeah," The psych major shakes her head, regaining her consciousness, "yeah I'm here in reality, what did you need?"
"Oh, I just wanted to ask if I could play with you guys. I can bring my switch over if you want." Lianna looks back at Marce who shared a conversation with only their eyes before she turned back to the boy in front of her.
"Sure, just... be mindful of Juno, he's still nervous around people."
"Then why isn't he nervous around her?" He points to Marce, who was still on the couch, Juneau next to her with his ears folded downwards looking directly at her owner for a reassuring look.
"Because Marcy's known him since I got him from the shelter and we trained him even when he has terrible separation anxiety so..."
"Do your teachers allow Juneau to be in your classes with you?"
"Yeah, they see how Juneau just sits with me during classes and how he doesn't bother anyone, he even has his own special place where he can get water and food."
"But what about those that have allergies against him?"
"We sit in the back corner of the class and have everyone who is allergic away from that area so they don't have a reaction, I also carry medication for them if they forgot theirs that day."
"That's... Really nice of you." The girl nods as she turns to the two on the couch.
"Juno, this is Tobias, he is friend, not foe." The dog's ears shoot up at the word "friend" and his tail starts to wag again. "Just be gentle with him, he's had a bad past." The boy nods and is let into the room, standing next to the girl as she closes the door behind her.
Juneau jumps off the couch and over to introduce himself to this new friend of his, sniffing his socks before looking up at him as he bonks his head against Tobias' leg.
"He wants you to pet him, you're officially his friend now." Lianna whispers to the boy, giving a nod towards the dog. The boy puts his hand out for the animal to sniff in which he does, soon he licks his hand which brings happiness to the boy making him remember his childhood dog that the girl had met in before times.
"Now come on love birds, we have island hopping to do." Marce throws the controller back over to the girl as she walks over and sits next to her on the couch. The band major finds a place on the floor to sit and look at the TV while Juneau was still getting comfortable with him.
While the three were playing Animal Crossing, the girl frequently glanced back at the boy, mostly to see how Juneau was doing, that was totally her reasoning to look over at the boy, to see how her dog was holding up.
"So our goal is to make the island even better than it already is."
"You say that every time you visit and we play this. It's already perfect the way it is." The girl hums, her facial expression reduced to a frown as she really wanted to make the island better, sure there were practically only mini parts of the world left to customize but they could always customize the villagers' housing and all of that. "How about we play some Mario Kart, Tobi would be able to play with us then."
Marce sighs in defeat, handing over one of the controllers to the boy who was on the other side of her near Lianna. "Then I'll wipe your asses on the floor."
"I doubt that considering I won five cups last time we played."
"Oh hush up. I won the last two."
"Yeah, two against five, so you have no room to speak." Tobias rolls his eyes again, looking between one girl and then the other.
"Calm down, both of you have your wins but you two having fun is what really matters does it not?"
"Yeah I guess you're right. It is a lot better to have the fun and adrenaline of playing with the latter." The boy nods, smiling as he ruffles Juneau's fur once again.
"See, that wasn't so hard now was it?"
"Shut up Tobias, you've lost every single cup I've played with you or seen in your videos with Colton."
"You... Know of our YouTube channel?"
"Of course I still know about it, I remember you told me when we were younger, and together."
"Oh..." Maybe the girl shouldn't have said that last part but she felt it was needed, or it was a flex upon her memory to show that she still remembered even years later, either way it did have it's pros and cons.
"Anyways, Marcy, go and find the cartridge."
"Why me?" She whines, standing up in a very dramatic fashion. She grabs the travel case for the switch and opens it to see that there were only a few games in there, the remastered version of Miitopia already snug in its own spot away from the others. "Why don't we play Super Smash Bros.?"
"Not happening, I'm challenging you to a duel."
"A racing duel? This is a really fucked up Harry Potter book."
"Shut up and find the cartridge, it should be next to Cuphead." The girl holds up an "okay" hand gesture and continues to look for the game the other so longed for.
Once she finds it she grabs it and gives a motion to say to Lianna that she was ready to throw it in her direction. The girl held her hands out, accepting the motion and was waiting for the play to happen. Marce throws the little cartridge underhand as it lands in the girl's hand, or rather it bounced out of her hand but she was able to make a recovery catch.
"Thanks." She grunts, putting it into the switch before handing it towards the manager again who puts it into the dock, watching as the student boosts the game up and its iconic theme starts to play.
"So who are you going to be Tobi?"
She used my old nickname. The boy grins at the sudden use of the name.
"I don't know, probably Yoshi or something."
"Marce?"
"Toad. He is the absolute god that's going to wreck everyone in existence."
"Don't know about that one."
"Who are you going to play as Lia?"
"Probably Baby Mario, I have always played as him for as long as I can remember."
"It was since he was introduced in Double-Dash." Marce chimed in, making the girl have yet another thirteenth reason.
"Well, whatever. Now lets play and I'll wipe the floor with you two." The sudden happiness and softness of the girl's voice now raged with an adrilened maniac, and Tobias was ready to win against the girl he holds so dear, even if it wasn't completely first place, he would still be able to get silver or bronze.
