After leaving Zamir back at the orphanage she’d gone on her way. Enaya was opening the door when she spoke up, “He’s a good kid.”
“Yes he is.” Ena replied back, “But you’re trying to divert the subject you know I’ll bring up. When did you notice… we had eyes on us?”
Corpse closed the door back and was walking towards Altivo, “When you were tired. The glares were of no threat. We’re still here.” She ruffled Altivo’s ears.
Ena glared at her hearing those words, “When you notice something like that you must tell me Enaya!” Seeing as corpse just continued to pet Altivo, Ena slammed the wall hard, “You can’t just do as you want Enaya! If I die you die, if you die-“
“You live. If I were to die I am well aware you’ll go on without me. As a child or Adult, you've never needed me.” Enaya slightly looked over at Ena, her smile unwavering.
“That’s not true! I need you! I was so lonely as a child, you were the only one who could see me! I had no one, mom thought something was wrong with you!” she recalled the times everyone looked at Enaya confused, her speaking to what they assumed to be thin air or an imaginary friend.
Enaya stood up and waved Altivo to sit, she turned and chuckled, “Soul… child or adult what does it matter.” She leaned in closer, “Human or soul what’s the difference. We all disappear in the end, lost to time, we may even forget ourselves.” Her smile turned to a grin, “You don’t need me, but I am here because you say you do. Yet for me, whether you say you need me or not, it’s all the same, and you know as well as me every time you say you need me, you’re only fooling yourself.” She stepped back and giggled, “But what do I know, I’m just a corpse.”
The shadows merged with the walls falling back, “That’s not-“
“You’re tired.” Enaya said, “it’s been a long day, well every day is long, but today you talked with so many people! Happy conversations, scared conversations, normal conversations, all of them yet none of them.” Her strides towards the couch where calm yet robotic, sitting down and playing with Altivo’s ears.
Enaya’s words would have sounded like a warning to anyone. But Ena knew she only said that to remind her of all that went through the day. Her own quiet yet efficient way of pointing out everything without pointing out anything.
“How was work?” Ena asked, crumbling down on the floor, a black splotch of darkness on the floor.
“Work was work. I waved at you through the window and then more work. Then you called so I left. We ate, we talked, we came home.” She turned back and pulled at Altivo’s ear while poking his nose, sticking out his tongue and licking Enaya’s hand.
“Of course.” Ena said, she slowly moved across the room, reaching the door to her work room, “Oh… we’ll be having dinner with Persephone one of these days. But before that… we have a playdate with Ares. Call in sick to work for tomorrow, we’re taking it to go see him instead. We might have to get ready for an annoying conversation, or fight.”
Enaya clapped and giggled, “Oh both sound so much fun. I do believe I saw a glimpse of Persephone the other day. But Ares, that’s new, I’m excited to see him!” She got up and walked to the same door Ena was about to open, opening it for her, “Should we bring him cookies? If he likes them he can eat them, if he doesn’t we can shove them down his throat.”
“Your self preservation skills need some work.” Ena said, going into the room,“Please refrain from doing that tomorrow.”
Enaya nodded, “I always listen to what you say, even when I don’t.” She closed the door after probably going back to Altivo or messing around with her own hobbies.
Ena left in the room with bottles and trinkets everywhere. She felt tired over everything that had gone through the day. Her mind was already seeing all the possible problems on seeing Ares tomorrow.
She looked back at the bottles she’d been working on last night, unfinished potions, unfinished projects, so many things started. So many things stored, finished and ready to go.
She sighed, she moved across the room and grabbed an orb, it had been stored in a box ever since she moved. She’d not seen the need to use it in a long time. Moving a shadowy hand across it and wiping off the dust.
The orb lit up and she whispered, “Garrel.”
The orbs' light changed, and showed her a young man who was concentrating and reading a book.
“Hi Garrel.” She said her eyes softening as she looked at him.
The man jumped on his seat, throwing his book aside in fright before taking a deep breath, “You have to stop doing that. I thought it was my wife.”
Ena chuckled, “Sorry, I just called to chat.”
Garrel sat back comfortably trying to spot where his book went, “Yeah, there’s better ways of doing it. Like using a phone. Heard you called mom, and some cousins. Yet not your dear older brother.” He said this in a sarcastic voice, “I was so hurt when you didn’t call. Should have known you just wanted to see me, forget everyone else.”
“Sure, you can think that.” She told him, “How.. how’s life?”
“How’s life? Really?” He raised a brow, surprised at her question, “It’s good. I was reading a good book before you scared the dignity out of me.”
She was confused at this before she spotted the book and read the title, “Oh… I didn’t realize you were reading something so… unique.”
He scoffed, “Don’t judge me, I can feel your glare even if I can’t see you.”
She smiled, “Alright alright.” She was quiet for a while.
With the sudden silence Garrel had grabbed the book and set it aside on a desk, “You doing good?”
