"By pack law, I choose to replace and fight for the Alpha's son." A huge burly guy said, stepping forward.
He must have been close to eight feet tall, and I could sense he was not a wolf. My guess was he had to be a bear shifter. I had heard a rumor there was an Alpha bear in town to watch the trials from a very old pack of shifters from Alaska. This was not how I wanted to start my day off.
"Sir, I know you are an honored guest here, but are you sure you wish to do this?" Enforcer Dylan said.
"It will be an honor to fight this Kanohalidohi. I have always wanted to know what it would be like to do battle with one," he said.
"But sir, no disrespect but part of the pact was that while you are here, you would not fight any wolf unless it was in self-protection," Enforcer Dylan said.
"He is no wolf. Besides, even the Alpha should have to obey and do as this one says. Did you not hear me call him by his title? He is a Kanohalidohi," he says.
"Sir, I assure you this pup would have to obey the Alpha, just as he would have to obey me. I am sorry I am a bit ignorant about what a Kanohalidohi is, as I have never heard that term before." Enforcer Dylan says.
"He is a hunter of old, an enforcer of all packs, the ultimate law. My packed in Alaska shall send him our tithe as soon as I step foot onto my territory. I decree this as the Alpha of the Great Northern bear pack. My word is law," he says as he bows in front of me and then stands again.
Enforcer Dylan turns on me and pulls all his power forward and yells in my face, "I command you to turn now!"
"Do you mean turn around to the ring or shift?" I ask him, being very serious about it.
Well, if I had done something wrong before to draw attention, this must have been a hundred times worse. You could have heard a pin drop. It was so silent.
"Would you please honor this old bear with a match in the ring? I never thought in my lifetime I would meet one of your statuses," he said.
"It would be an honor, Sir. But why do you say I am not a wolf? I only ask, as no one has ever said differently to me before," I say.
I could hear the beast coming down the road, and Marie was driving at more than cruising speed. She must have heard what was going on and feared I might need backup. That was the only time I had ever known her to drive as such.
"Ah, the rest of your team approaches. I now know why and how a master vampire was killed here, and those in the slums fear no evil." The great Northern bear Alpha says.
I had seen some amazing things before, but I never thought this would be one of them. The beast never slowed as it barreled through the parking lot. As it neared the edge of it, the beast turned and drifted to a stop at the edge of the practice grounds with a Black Panther jumping out from behind the steering wheel. Sadie came out of the passenger's door in full war paint as I war lance materialized in her hands. With only the speed a vampire has, Bill was standing beside me, fully fanged out. From the passenger's back door, Rachel sprung out, shifting into a very pissed-off demon form with full wings extended and bursting into flames around her body. A most beautiful sight, if I say. From the back of the beast, the double doors flew open as two winged warriors flew out in black leather armor, wielding some very wicked-looking swords with a quiver of arrows and a bow strapped to their backs. All of them headed my way at full speed.
Enforcer Dylan shifted and stood in front of the great Alpha bear, meaning to protect him from what he thought was danger running at him till he noticed a very fanged-out Bill standing beside him, in the full sunlight.
The great Alpha bear put his hand on Dylan's shoulder, "Calm yourself, I am sure if they wanted to do me harm, you would be dead by now. They are here to make sure their leader comes to no harm."
"Darastrix, you ok? We heard the alpha's son challenged you to a duel. We all know he would cheat or his cronies would jump in. We got here as fast as we could," vampire Bill stated.
"He is a Daywalker. This day just keeps getting better for this old bear. Oh, Demoness, may I shake your hand and ask but a favor of you?" the Alpha bear says.
"What is it you ask of me?" Rachel says as she kills the aura of flames around her, extending her hand to the alpha bear.
"It seems the alpha of this pack misleads me. He had wanted me to come and watch the trials, and his son, the great vampire hunter. Who, he claims, killed a master vampire and put an end to the people around here from becoming feeders to a vampire coven. I have seen nothing extraordinary until today. Either his son is a fraud or someone has misled me about who really stopped and put an end to the vampire coven. In which case I am in need of some personal protection till I leave here. I would like you to be in charge of that. I will make sure you are compensated for your work," he says as he shakes her hand with a broad smile on his face.
"I am most honored, Sir. I accept as long as I am not needed by my leader. My two sons accompany me at all times," Racheal says as she motions to them, and they flank the alpha bear to either side of him.
"Now to answer your question Darastrix. Some of us older shifters are able to sense a shifter's species and presence. You are by no means a wolf shifter. You are a Guardian of the Native American people of old. I must also ask, did you kill a master vampire not long ago?" the alpha bear asks, "By the way, I am known as Alpha Klaus."
