Shībài zhě spent the entire way to school, complaining about
David’s parents and how they were being irresponsible by letting their
17-year-old son do all of their housework for them.
“Well, at least they don’t make you clean the house.” Shībài zhě said as they got off the subway.
“No, I even clean the house as soon as I get home which is at around 7 o’clock,” David said.
To look normal to the people around them, David was wearing earphones to make it look like he was on a call.
“Why do you get home so late?” Shībài zhě asked him with even more anger.
“I get out of school at 2 o’clock and for the next 5 hours, I go to my part-time jobs, run some errands for the twins or my parents, and once every month, go to pay the bills,” David answered as he got out of the station, and on to the sidewalk.
“So, from the time you wake up at 6, you work for the next 13 hours! What about after that? I mean I saw a game console and a P.C as well.”
“I only use those once a week as I don’t have the time since I study from the time, I get home to when I sleep. I even have to make dinner.” David continued to go through the blocks to reach his school.
The school was not big in its size, but it was tall with up to 4 floors. There was a basketball court on the right of the entrance gate and the school on the left. There was also a baseball field outside of the school which didn’t seem to be part of the school, but their students were using it as they were all in the same sports uniform. The other students could be seen meeting with their friends, but David was the only one walking alone to school. As David got through the school gate, a car came into the school grounds and parked near the entrance. The driver looked like an adult when he got out, but as he interacted with the other students, Shībài zhě figured out that he was just another student. It was hard to tell though. He was tall and had a very athletic body. His clothes looked much more expensive than what normal students wear and even his face looked more mature. He was friendly to everyone, but David was the only one who wasn’t happy to see him and was trying to sneak away. But when the boy saw David, his entire attitude changed.
“Davey. There you are.” The boy said as he walked toward David.
“Hey, Henry,” David said. Shībài zhě was glad to see that David at least had a friend. But then, Henry punched David in the stomach which led to him falling onto the ground and onto his knees. Shībài zhě shouted at the boy named Henry but realized that he can't hear him.
“So did you do my homework.” He asked David as he got up slowly with the help of Shībài zhě, he didn’t seem that hurt which Henry had not noticed.
“Yeah, I have it,” David said.
“So were you going to give me in the middle of class or not at all.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m pretty sure you were sneaking away from me,” Henry said, with annoyance in each word. “So, were you?”
“No. No. I was just, surprising you from behind.” David said quickly, but Henry punched him again and this time kicked him in his stomach.
“Are we friends or something, that you were trying to surprise me? HUH!” Henry said with disgust on his face. “Just give me my homework and piss off.”
David fumbled around in his backpack, got the homework, and gave it to him. Shībài zhě tried to hit Henry very badly but he only went through him. Just then the bell rang. David got up as if nothing happened and he started to walk toward school, while Shībài zhě watched him from behind. He decided at this moment, that he will try everything he can, to make David stronger and be able to stand up for himself.
