“Run! The Foundation has broken through the gates!”
“How? Dracion was at the front, how did they get passed him?!”
“It was the Cromwells, they defeated him and their white dogs are rushing the place, we’re finished if we don’t run.”
The hunters and the hunted, the duality that clouds both humans and vampire. The hunters that hunt neither for food nor protection but for the thrill it gives them. The vampires have the advantage in this regard with their super human abilities. The hunted that flee from the hunters’ thrill, humans see themselves in this regard as their life essence, their blood, is the nourishment that vampires’ need. But whom really deserves the luxury of innocence?
“There is more over here!”
“Surround them, while the Slayers advance.”
When bullet tear through the space between and blades of blood tear through flesh, who is really blameless in this world? From the dark ages to now who is really the victim? Our history has always whispered the existence of the other, the nations they founded and watched turned to ruin by the liberating hands of the religious crusades. With the Vladivus Imperious crusade bringing an end to their oldest stronghold.
“We have cleared out half the manor, operation Imperious Nightfall is being a success.”
“Good job Cromwell, you and your wife keep up the attack, they won’t get away this time.”
The Foundation, our nation’s agency that has been tasked with safeguarding the people from any threats originating from the vampires. They deploy vampire investigators known as Slayers, specially trained personnel for combating vampires, with their various armaments called Sentries.
“Troopers, hold the line, we cannot let them retake what we’ve fought for.”
“Yes ma’am!”
“Die you white dogs!”
“Marvin, you’ll pay for that you monster!”
After all these years we still have not learnt to coexist. No matter how much blood is shed by Slayers and their Arch troopers, personnel clad in white armor and trained to support Slayers on their missions. No matter how many people on both side die. If neither wants peace, then how can either claim to be the hunted?
“They’re trying to break the through at the west wing, go back up their division.”
“Yes sir!”
“Remember to watch out for blood traps.”
Nothing is as black and white as we’d like to believe. This path of blood and destruction only serves to silence those on both sides that call for coexistence and an end to the needless bloodshed. For as long as humans are able to be affected by a vampire’s unique venom. For as long as a new Eve Sac is formed, a new vampire can be born.
Luckily feeding and venom injection are exclusive actions and cannot happen simultaneously. Yet this comfort comes at a terrifying reality, turning a human is a conscious choice made by the feeding vampire.
“Commanders! The…y’re, they’re turning our men, I repeat they are…..ahhh!”
“Commander Cromwell, we’ve lost communication with teams: three, four and five.”
“Everyone be careful try not to get bitten.”
“Sir, new enemies approaching.”
What will be the outcome when all the fighting is done? Can one side survive? Will one side go extinct without the other? If one cannot exist without the other, maybe all this fighting just a symptom rather than the cure we are all made to believe.
“Command and all those who can hear me, operation Imperious Nightfall is over, victory is ours.”
No matter how much we cheer at every win, shouldn’t we wonder what it cost? How many souls were sacrificed to achieve it? At the end of the day, are we not all just trying to live in this world we call home?
All that really separates us and vampires are our blood and a specialized Eve Sac organ. Yet even then, the only difference in blood is the presence of V-cells that grant vampires their powers from enhanced senses and strength to an incredible healing factor that we could benefit from. Shouldn’t we try to learn from each other rather than killing each other off?
Yet following The Foundation’s ten-year victory that was led by a husband and wife Slayer duo, what have we learnt? Nothing. All that happened was the beneficial defeat of the largest organized vampire group. Yet even that simply served to scatter their remnants and supporters into the shadows to fester with their desire for potential revenge. No longer unified but just as alive as you or I to this day.
