"Maddy, are you okay?" Greyson's voice was muffled out by the sounds of the shower, but I could still hear the concern in his voice.
"I'm fine!" I lied and stared at the door expecting him to barge in. When he didn't respond, I assumed he believed me.
"Maddy stop lying to yourself." Titan grew frustrated and I was having trouble keeping calm.
"I'm not ly-"
"Stop being a tool and open your eyes!” Titan barked at me.
Titan growled and growled back in response.
"Don’t pretend to know everything about me."
I turned away from the sink and hopped into the shower. Titan seemed to have disappeared, but his lingering words caused unwanted memories to flash back.
My mother's picture was in the newspaper. Her mangled body twisted unnaturally. A deep gash started at the base of her neck and went down her hip bone. This caused my mother's insides to spew out on top of her. Her left arm, just barley connected to the rest of her body by small strands of muscle. Her right hand clawed at the dirt as if she was alive while being devoured.
I say devoured because there was no blood at the crime scene. Even her entrails had the blood sucked out of it. I wasn't supposed to see the paper obviously, but when my father was having his mental break down, it was what he used to be beat me.
I grabbed a fistful of hair and squeezed my eyes shut. I did everything in my power to control my feelings, but it was almost as if a floodgate of unwanted memories had burst open.
"Maddy?" Greyson spoke out again and I opened my eyes to find that my hands were covered in blood.
I looked up to find the water had turned into a thick, red ooze. My breath grew ragged as I tried to wipe the substance off of me and onto the walls.
"No..." I mumbled. The liquid tasted like iron as dripped into my mouth.
I scrambled out of the shower, unable to think straight.
When I caught my reflection in the mirror, I froze.
Blood.
My eyes had turned a deep shade of red to match the rest of the substance that had covered my face.
The word monster popped into my brain and I went berserk.
"No!" I shouted at my reflection before breaking the glass.
It only took Greyson a couple of seconds to break the lock on his door and slam into the room. He stared at me wide-eyed. Anyone would if they saw me.
I was covered in sweat from the showers steam, my eyes were dark and hooded from fear and anger, but worst of all was my fist. It was still connected to the mirror, which was stained with my blood, and I could feel shards of glass piercing through my skin.
"Mad-" Greyson tried to take a step forward.
"Don't!" I shouted with pain in my voice.
I couldn’t look at him. Now that he’d seen how unstable I was, he wasn’t going stick around for much longer.
