“Son this is…” (Brayden)
"This is what?" (Bryson)
[The true right?...] (Deliveryman)
"Your dad is right boy." (Deliveryman)
The Deliverer gets up and everyone stops talking and looks at him.
"Which?" (Bryson)
"That's not quite how things are." (Deliveryman)
“I'm sorry for the lack of politeness.” (Deliveryman)
The Deliverer takes off both shirts he was wearing and throws them on the floor.
So everyone is surprised to see that his body is covered in scars.
“I've actually worked as a Delivery Man for ten years, but do you know how many times I've come across monsters? How many times have I almost died?” (Deliveryman)
"And in all of them I almost couldn't escape with my life, many of those times I survived by luck and others I didn't. These scars are proof of that." (Deliveryman)
"In this job where you can meet monsters at any time... And die at any time... Who would want to work with that... And why?" (Deliveryman)
"But even if it's like that, you got it and a lot of other people didn't you? (Bryson)
"Oh, are you talking about the number of registered Deliverers?" (Deliveryman)
"More than half of them have died." (Deliveryman)
"Which?" (Bryson)
Everyone in the room is surprised by what the Deliverer says.
“Remember the Registration Code in our hands? They are not just for identification. They serve to monitor if we are still alive, when a Delivery Person dies, the Code in our hand disappears, and the book in the City where we registered opens to the page where our Code is and it turns Red, showing the Postal Address that this delivery person just died. This is public information at the Post Office.” (Deliveryman)
"I've seen several Deliverers dying in front of me, without my being able to do anything." (Deliveryman)
"As your father said, that's not quite the way it is." (Deliveryman)
"It's much worse than you can imagine." (Deliveryman)
Everyone was scared by everything the Delivery Man was saying, even the boy who was excited before had lost all that excitement.
The Deliverer looks at Brayden.
"Brayden-sama remember when you asked me about my name before and I chose not to say?" (Deliveryman)
"Yes I recall." (Brayden)
"It wasn't that I didn't want to tell you my name." (Deliveryman)
"I just don't know what my name is." (Deliveryman)
Everyone is amazed to hear this.
"What do you mean you don't know your name?" (Brayden)
"I don't remember anything from my past, one day I just opened my eyes and found myself buried by snow near a city in the north of the continent, when I finally got out of there I saw that I was in the middle of snow and my clothes were covered with blood” (Deliveryman)
"Apparently I was in a caravan on my way to that City and we were attacked by monsters and I ended up hitting my head somewhere." (Deliveryman)
“Most importantly, I didn't know who I was, I didn't remember anything, what was my name? Where was I from? How did I get there? Did I have a house? A family? Relatives? Friends? Someone who cared about me? I didn't remember anything." (Deliveryman)
"Even now, after all these years, I still can't even remember my name." (Deliveryman)
The three were in shock, not knowing how to react to what they had just heard.
“I thought that being in this job and going to different villages and cities I would find something about my past. When you see something familiar, you can regain some of your memories." (Deliveryman)
"That's what the doctor who attended me at that time told me." (Deliveryman)
The Delivery Man gives a slight smile and then looks frustrated.
“That's why I'm in this job, that's why I became a Delivery Man! Even with the high death rate and high risk!” (Deliveryman)
"Even though the pay for the jobs is high, hardly anyone wants this job, do you know why kid?" (Deliveryman)
"Only desperate people who really need money or those who have nowhere else to go take this job!" (Deliveryman)
"Of course, there are exceptions like those who were once soldiers, mercenaries, wizards and others, who come to this job to try to get rich." (Deliveryman)
“More and you Bryson? Why would you want to risk this shit work? After all, you can die at any time! What about your parents? You have your family!" (Deliveryman)
"I needed to go to different places in other regions, see other places, other cities, to try to find something familiar and be able to remember something." (Deliveryman)
“More going in search of my past would not be easy.” (Deliveryman)
“How could I go to so many places like this? Traveling like this would cost a lot of money and I didn't have any money, I didn't even have clothes, how was I going to buy supplies for these trips?” (Deliveryman)
"At first I thought about getting a normal job in the city, but the pay wasn't good enough for me to make these trips." (Deliveryman)
"It was then that I came across the Postal Headquarters in that city and saw that that place was the solution to all the problems I had at that time, I didn't need a background or knowledge in any specific area to work as a Delivery Person, the only one thing they needed was to Register my Code.” (Deliveryman)
"The pay was good, and I would still be able to travel to other regions in the process." (Deliveryman)
"So that's why you work as a Delivery Person?" (Bryson)
The boy was already looking sad when asking him this, as well as his parents.
"Yes, because... even the slightest bit I would like to remember something, I can't just ignore the fact that they may have given their life for me that day I had that accident and not remember anything about them or about me." (Deliveryman)
Everyone is silent. Nobody knew what to say in that situation.
The Delivery Man smiles a little.
"It's the only thing that's kept me going all these years is my desire to find out about my past." (Deliveryman)
“Did everyone who knew me die that day? Is there no one waiting for me somewhere? Are they all really dead?” (Deliveryman)
“I thought if I went somewhere different and saw something familiar during these trips I could really remember something” (Deliveryman)
"I thought you remembered something, anything" (Deliveryman)
"I could finally move on, live for those who sacrificed for me." (Deliveryman)
"I saw horrible things during my travels." (Deliveryman)
The Delivery Man smiles again with a less sad look.
“Furthermore, I saw a lot of amazing things and even felt happy at times, seeing new things and various places during my travels.” (Deliveryman)
"So I guess it's okay, after all." (Deliveryman)
“If that's true, why do you look so sad? Why are you crying?" (Bryson)
Tears were running down the Deliverer's face without him even realizing it.
As he looked at his hand the tears fell on her. He could no longer maintain his smile.
[Ah... It's been so long since I've felt like this... Damn.] (Deliveryman)
"Even after surviving in this job for so long." (Deliveryman)
"I haven't found a clue until today, no matter where I go, I can't find anything, everything I've done all these years was in vain?" (Deliveryman)
“It's been ten years since I woke up in that snow. And nothing has changed since then.” (Deliveryman)
"This emptiness I feel for not knowing anything remains the same, why does it hurt so much?" (Deliveryman)
“Why does this pain never go away… Why don't I remember anything? I want to remember.” (Deliveryman)
[I really want to remember.] (Deliveryman)
“I didn't know, I'm sorry I asked you to talk to my son about this. (Brayden)
Brayden was looking at me with a sad look in his eyes, he looked like he was about to cry too. "It doesn't matter, it's not like you know and it was also good to remember why I'm doing all this to this day, even if it's useless." (Deliveryman)
"And even if it's useless, I won't stop." (Deliveryman)
“It's not useless! I know one day you will be able to remember! I'm sure about that!" (Bryson)
Bryson stated this as tears streamed down his face.
[Hearing that didn't make me any less sad, but I think I understand what he meant.]
“Bryson is right. Someday you'll be able to remember something!” (Eloise)
"It is true! As long as you don't give up, you'll still have a chance to remember something!” (Brayden)
The delivery boy finds himself looking at his hands as tears fall over them. He starts to smile a little. (Deliveryman)
[While I don't give up? I've wanted to give up several times, but... ] (Deliveryman)
“Well, it was a long night! I think we all better go to sleep." (Eloise)
"I've already fixed the guest room for you, so you can use it as you wish, Delivery." (Eloise)
"Okay, thank you very much." (Deliveryman)
"Your welcome." (Eloise)
"Come Bryson you also need to go to sleep." (Eloise)
"Right." (Bryson)
The boy and everyone were still a bit upset with the development of that situation.
"Delivery, you also need to rest, it's been a very exhausting day for you." (Brayden)
"Yeah, you're right, I really will." (Deliveryman)
As he headed for the bedroom, the Deliverer was lost in thought.
[It really was a very long night. It's been a long time since I felt that way.] (Deliveryman)
[Damn, feeling like this… it really sucks.] (Deliveryman)
Tears streamed down his face once more.
