Chapter 18: The Unspoken One

Eria woke up with a yawn and stretched her arms she looked out the window of the palace and saw James and Henry riding away from the palace in the distance.

 She remembered James explaining at the summit he will be gone for at least 2-3 days. In the meantime, she should focus on training. She suddenly heard a knock on the door.

 “c-come in,” she said expecting it to be one of the maids. To her surprise, the one who came in wasn’t a maid but a tall young man with pale skin and purple hair he wore a long dark cape with black robes and had a book in his left hand and a silver spear in his right hand. 

Her eyes widened once she realized who it was “K-kryeos.. sir… what beings you here…” She said as she rushed to stand up. “At ease, you don’t need to stand up or anything I’m just a humble seer,” he said with a small smile as he found a nearby chair and sat down.

 Kryeos was another member of the pillars that was part of James’ inner circle. Kryeos has no noble title every time he received one he always refused it. The reason is he is a foreigner from another land far away he was shunned by his people but one day he ended up on the shores of this continent where James found him. Despite him earning fame and fortune he still doesn't believe he is worthy of being a noble as he is content just being part of something. 

He has very rare magic called Prophecy magic making him Clairvoyant and able to see glimpses of the future. And on top of his magic, he is also a master spearman although he doesn’t fight as much as Marquess Henry does. 

“His majesty asked me to look after you while he was away on… business,” he told her as he closed his eyes and leaned back. Even as he talked to Eria his mind was somewhere else. 

Eria stared out the window. “It’ll be nice if I could go with him I always wanted to meet the other kings.” She admitted to which Kryeos let out a chuckle.

 “My my you're a bold one. I can see why the king is so interested in you. Nobody but you can be so bold that’s why King James likes you. I imagine you like a breath of fresh air for him” he said in an amused tone. He paused then continued. 

“But you know… I noticed the king has become a little happier recently. I haven’t seen him so happy since 12 years ago while he, Zaria, and… him… were still together..” he admitted to which Eria was confused and looked at Kryeos.

 “What do you mean? Was there a third friend? I thought it was only Zaria who was his best friend?” She asked confused and curious to which Kryeos opened his dark purple eyes and looked at her.

 “… King James tried to erase him from history but there was a third friend. Many years ago. James, Zaria and.. him. Were known as the three great heroes. They triumphed over a mighty foe and became legends. But disaster struck them 12 years ago”

 Kryeos said as he looked down King James was not the only one ashamed of that day. As much as James will deny it he wasn’t the only one at fault. 

“Who is he? What’s his name?” Eria asked curiously Eria realized maybe she doesn’t know James as much as she thought she did.

 “King James has ordered us not to speak any information about him including his name. But I will say this. His magic… was very unique… nobody has ever seen magic like his… and he grew to live and fear because of it... It was a heavy burden with a magic so humbling he always kept Zaria and James fumbling and grappling with mysteries and questions they couldn’t possibly understand.” He sighed and then stood up. 

“It seems I said too much. I should probably get going now” he said and made his way back to the door he placed his hand on the door nob and looked back at Eria.

 “I am forbidden from speaking about him but that doesn’t mean you can’t find out yourself. This palace has many secrets perhaps you’ll find something… or maybe not... I doubt the king would leave anything out in the open so you shouldn’t waste your time… well farewell, for now, my lady I hope we meet again soon” he said then opened the door and exited the room. 

Once Kryeos left Erias room he let out a small chuckle. “I'm sorry, your majesty but she deserves to know... After all, she's the only one who can help you” Kyreos said to himself as he walked along the halls. He knew he just disobeyed King James’ orders but he was willing to accept punishment if it means that it will help him.

Eria just stared at the door in shock what did she just hear? Was her whole life a lie? She stood up from the bed and stared at the window she watched the capital city from a distance.

 The story always went that there was a boy and girl that became best friends they each possessed incredible power one had light the other had dark they were the greatest of friends before the dark one became corrupted and the light was forced to stop her but was she mistaken?

 Was there a third person? Who could it possibly be? She stared at the window she knew James would never answer her questions so she had to figure this out herself. She exited the bedroom and walked the halls. She walked along the halls then she soon reached the master bedroom. 

She placed her hand on the door handle of James' room. Was she willing to betray the wishes of her friend and king over the truth… she pondered this question but she soon realized that she could never help James if she didn’t know the truth so in one bold move she opened the door and entered the kings' room.
