Chapter 4
The next morning my head felt a bit better, still hurt a bit but I still decided to get up and go to school, however, I do need to get my homework done, and not gonna lie I want to see Aika, but homework is more important, yes homework, definitely homework. I sigh and walk through the school doors heading straight to my locker. I open it and toss my bag in, I close it and jump when I see Aika.
“Jesus you scared me,” I say laughing a bit nervously.
“Oh, sorry, but then again that was the point,” this is the first time I’ve seen her smile, let alone laugh, her laugh is quite cute it causes me to smile a bit calmly.
“So, you feeling better?” she asks.
“Uh, yeah I guess so,” I say smiling a bit awkwardly.
“I’m glad,” she says and starts walking away. Her hand glides across my back and I watch her leave. I have her in most of my classes, it has been like that all year, but why am I extra shy this time? Is it because she’s noticed me?
I walk into my class and sit in the back, Aika is in the seat diagonal from me, Damian is in the seat in front of me, and across from me is this girl named Sarah. Kinkay had her older sister in his class when he was in high school, by what I’ve heard, they are exactly the same. Spreading rumors, bullying, homophobic comments, thinking they’re better than everyone, you name it.
I quietly sketch in my notebook while I wait for the teacher to come back from his meeting. However, him being gone made the class think they can do whatever they want, most of them were being loud, Aika and this one other kid with huge glasses are doing homework that isn’t due in two weeks, a group of girls is writing party plans for this weekend, three boys, Damian, Jackson, and another boy whose name I forgot, is throwing a football, the emo twins are for some reason drawing the teacher hanging from a tree on the whiteboard, in other words, my class is complete chaos.
The teacher walks back in and I can tell that he almost had a heart attack, bravo class, so proud of you. I tear a few of my drawings out and keep them together with a paper clip. Damian snatches the drawings off of my desk and tosses the paper clip at me, he looks through the drawings. I didn’t care at first until I remembered that one of the drawings was a drawing of Aika.
“Oh, what’s this?” he says with a disgusting smirk.
“Looks like a drawing of Aika,” chimes Bethany looking over Damian’s shoulder.
“No duh blondie,” says Sarah sarcastically.
“Is Aika your crush?” Damian says laughing, my face heats up with embarrassment and I look over at Aika, she’s staring at us, I notice her face go a bright red and she runs out of the room. Damian keeps going on about how he finally found out who it was, Bethany just laughs along and Sarah goes on about how gross it is, the rest of the class joins in. I mess with the paper clip that was thrown at me, breaking it in half, I slide one of the halves up my sleeve and glide it across my wrist, leaving 3 long cuts behind. I thought I was done with this habit after Kinkay found out when I was 14, but I guess not.
I couldn’t get my drawing back, but at least no one noticed when I was messing with the paperclip. I put it in my hoodie pocket and picked up my books heading to my next class. Aika notices me but avoids eye contact, that hurt worst than the cuts. I walk up to her.
“H-hey, I’m sorry about what happened, It must have embarrassed you, probably even grossed you ou-” I’m caught off by Aika’s lips against my own. My face heats up and I step back a bit, she laughs and I notice that she’s blushing as well.
“I’ve actually liked you for a long time,” she says smiling brightly. I smile and hug her, she hugs me back.
“I’ve liked you since elementary,” I say and laugh nervously. Aika laughs again and tucks a bit of my hair out of my face before walking off.
“Cya later,” she says and walks into her next class.
