Kieran had opened the door to find two similar-looking people. One girl and one boy. They both had white hair and wore similar grey and casual clothing. They had sharp features and grey eyes. They came into the apartment as if it was their home.
"What took you so long-" before he could finish the sentence, he laid eyes on the stranger in the room.
"A human," she smelled.
As they were approaching Leila, Kieran stopped them in the middle.
"I'll explain everything but for now, don't touch her." They both stood still, confused. "First, Leila, these are my friends Luke and Lucie. Now, this is Leila, a soon-to-be witch."
"But she's human," Luke scorned
"It's a punishment. The eldest prince ordered me to make a witch out of a regular human."
"Oh, my," Lucie said putting a hand on her forehead.
"I told you to do your demon duties. You brought this to yourself." Luke added.
Leila felt left out and even more of a stranger. She also felt insulted as she had been constantly called a punishment throughout the day. For her, coming to Hell felt like a punishment itself. She wanted to tell them off but was still scared of them. She sat tightly on her seat and slowly brought every part of her body close together.
"Don't be scared. We won't hurt you." Lucie softly told her. Her words could not reach Leila. She still had her doubts and didn't speak a word.
"She's right, the most dangerous one here is actually Kieran. I'm surprised he didn't do anything to you yet." Luke said, earning a glare from the concerned one. In addition, he earned a chuckle from Leila. These comic words had been more reassuring to her.
"Alright then," she had told them. "Well, I'm Leila, a 20-year-old human who doesn't know why she is in Hell."
"It must be confusing, one minute you're on earth and the next in Hell," Luke said.
"Do these kinds of things happen often?" Leila asked.
"I've never seen it happen," Lucie answered with a smile.
"Can I trust you guys to not eat her up even if I leave you alone?" Kieran asked.
"Do you not trust us?" Luke said with a smirk.
"No, and I never did," Kieran kept his cold and non-expressive face throughout the whole conversation.
"Already protective of your girl?" Luke teasingly added.
"If she's dead, then I'm dead too. If you want to see me getting killed by the prince then eat her up."
"I might take you up on that," Luke replied.
Kieran rolled his eyes and went to the room on the left closing the door loudly behind him.
"Are you actually going to eat me?" Leila questioned with a hint of fear in her eyes.
"We're ghouls, people eating is what we do," he said slowly creeping on Leila.
"Stop it! He's just kidding. We won't eat you, we respect our friend." Lucie said as she hit Luke's arm.
Leila looked at both of them and remarked more and more on the resemblance. They looked the same except that Luke had short hair and Lucie had longer hair but it was in a low ponytail.
"Are you two siblings?"
"Yup, twins even!" Luke said rubbing his arm.
"We're childhood friends of Kieran," Lucie had added.
"I see…" She responded.
Luke furrowed an eyebrow as he observed Leila. "I wonder why they chose you?"
"That's rude," Lucie reprimanded him.
"No no, I wonder the same thing. Why me?"
"You see, I wasn't in the wrong."
"Leila? Right?" Lucie asked making sure of her name.
"Yes, that's right."
"You really don't know anything about this?"
"Kieran told me that if I do as told, I'll be able to go back home and that it was the only way." She let out a big sigh.
Lucie sat down on the sofa next to her and gave her a sympathetic smile.
"It's quite tricky."
"It is. I have no idea why the prince would want to bring a human to Hell and turn her into a witch. I don't see the reason?" Luke had started until something hit. "Well, there has been a shortage of witches these days but still, a human?"
"A shortage of witches?" Leila asked sitting on the edge of the sofa with wide-opened eyes.
"Yes, a couple of years ago many witches were killed in an attack and ever since there have been fewer and fewer witches in Hell. But I wonder why they are just now actively trying to restore the witch population," Luke answered.
"You have a point," Lucie said.
"Well, I'm sure there's a reason. Good luck Leila," Luke said with a cheerful tone accompanied by a radiant smile.
"Well thanks…" Leila sarcastically said as if it was all so easy. Lucie had let out a small laugh because of the exchange she had witnessed.
"Is there anything you want to know about Kieran?" Luke asked with yet another smirk. "We know him better than anyone. We can tell you everything." Leila looked at him with a resembling smirk.
"Luke I think you found your real twin." Lucie pointed out.
"What about that room over there. What is it?" Leila inquired.
"Oh, that's his art office."
"Art office?"
"He likes to keep it as a secret as he is a demon and art doesn't go well with demons."
"I don't think that there are things you shouldn't associate with people. Even within demons, there's individuality right?" Leila remarked.
"Hell is not as open-minded as the earth," Lucie told her.
"The earth isn't as open as you think… although it depends on the country," Leila stated.
"That's interesting," Lucie said while slowly nodding her head.
"You don't want to hear the juicy stuff?" Luke asked.
"Is there really something that interesting to this demon?" she nonchalantly said.
"Did he seem uninterested in everything about the earth?"
"Yes. He said he didn't know much about it and didn't want to know anything about it."
"Wrong," Lucie calmly said.
"He is a maniac when it comes to earth. He acts so uninterestedly but in fact, he is fascinated by the earth. He probably feels that he's just too cool to ask you things but I'm sure he has a million questions for you." Luke said.
"Oh really?" exclaimed Leila as she laid back on her seat with ease.
"Yup!" he said acting like an excited little child. "He may act calm but that's just an act. He's probably in there dying of excitement."
"Well, that's very interesting," Leila had said a few words that seem to mean much more. Perhaps the evilness of Hell was contagious.
A knock at the door had interrupted their conversation. Leila froze once again, she thought that it surely wasn't another friend of Kieran. He didn't look like the type to have many friends. About that, she seems to be right.
"It's me, your landlord!"
Upon hearing that voice, Kieran hurriedly came out of his office. He looked at Leila and once again cursed under his breath but it was barely audible.
"I heard rumours of a human roaming these streets. A vampire told me he saw it coming into this building. I need to check every place now open up!"
Luke and Lucie looked at each other and knew what to do right away. They lifted Leila holding her by each arm.
"Wait!" Leila was protesting it did not stop them. They shoved her into Kieran's office and closed the door.
Leila was shoved into the room Kieran wanted to hide from her. The room was quite different than the one she had previously seen. There was a long half-circle desk and what you call on earth a gamer chair. Next to that was a simple window. Leila approached the desk with wide-opened eyes. Much of his art was scattered on his desk. When she lifted her head, she could also see art hung on the wall. The most surprising thing was that most of the art was bright. For a second, Leila thought she was back home and what happened past that door was just a dream or even a scam. His art style was of the earth. The drawings were also things that couldn't be found in Hell. He had drawn green plants, blue water filled with multi-coloured fishes, and clear skies with radiating suns. She could have never imagined that a boy this dark could create drawings filled with hope and life. Hell was all about death and darkness. She had realized that Luke was more than serious when he told her about Kieran's interest in her planet. As she was observing all these happy art pieces, she had completely forgotten about the threat in the other room. The sound of the turning doorknob had reminded her of the crisis. Leila's eyes shifted in the direction of the door. She winced and closed her eyes. She held her breath as Kieran had previously advised doing. The office was very small and thus it was hard to find a hiding place. Strangely enough, the sound hadn't persisted and all she could hear were muffled voices. Leila quickly hid under the desk but bumped her head in the process.
"Ouch!"
"I heard a voice come from there. I need to check, no more excuses," said the landlord from the other side of the door.
"You heard wrong," she heard Kieran say when the door opened.
"What is this room?" he said shocked by the bright colours.
"That's what I wanted to hide. This is my strange hobby, I really didn't want you to see this," Kieran hurriedly said in hopes to derail the landlord.
"You are a demon! That's what you were doing instead of completing your demon duties? If you don't get your act together, you'll be punished by the kingdom!" he shouted. A chuckle escaped from Luke's mouth earning a glare from Lucie.
"I'll do my best," replied Kieran.
"Alright then, I'll get going." The landlord made his way out of the apartment with Kieran.
Meanwhile, Leila was left in the room with Luke and Lucie.
"Leila?" called Lucie.
"Where are you?" asked Luke. Soon enough, they both heard the loudest exhale ever made in Hell. Leila brought her head out of the desk. They could see that her face had grown a shade of red.
"Are you okay?" Lucie asked as she came next to Leila.
"Yes, I've just been holding my breath ever since the landlord came in the room," she answered catching her breath.
"Well done," Luke said from the door.
"It's safe now so come out of there," Kieran had said bruskly.
As soon as Leila had been out of the room, he tightly closed the door.
"So much trouble because of a human. Don't ever think of going back in that room," he said clearly annoyed.
"I was shoved in the room and I didn't ask to come to Hell either!"
"Don't take it too personally, he doesn't even let us, his closest friends in that room," Luke said patting her back. "And you, don't be so mean to our innocent friend, it's your fault she's here. You neglected your demon duties and that's just what you get." Luke only tried to appease the tension in the room.
"I think we should leave, you two have a lot of talking and organizing to do," Lucie said as she grabbed her brother by the arm. Leila looked at her with sad and desperate eyes.
"Don't worry, we'll come by often to make sure he doesn't kill you," Luke had said before being forcibly dragged out by Lucie.
