Marce stands outside the coffee shop with two coffee cups and a few slips of paper in her hands, her tiny backpack jumping up and down as she walks towards the car.
“Hey El.” She turns to look into the back seat, making her voice go higher again, “hey Juanie.” The dog’s ears perk up, making his tail wag as he looks at the girl.
“Hey, whatcha got there?”
“An Ice coffee for me and a caramel iced coffee for you.”
“Thanks, so how was your meet up with Alexa and Akira?”
“They were so happy to see me after a few years, it was nice.”
“That’s good.” She gets into the car, putting the coffees into their respective cupholders. “What’s with the post-its?”
“It’s their new numbers, they decided to move in for a few years.”
“Well Columbus is a relatively okay place.”
“Yep, and it’s really close to Canada.”
“Not that close, it’s at least a day worth of driving to get up there.”
“Still closer than where they were originally going to move.”
“Which was?”
“Georgia.”
“Yeah, I don’t think they would go south if they want to still be close to their home country or second home country.” The girl nods. Putting her seatbelt on before making a motion for the other to get a move on.
“So tell me about your date with To-biased.”
“Uh... first off it wasn’t a date.”
“Oo, that’s not what Colton told me.”
“What did he tell you?”
“Lia, for the love of the bejesus council you are dense and not very secretive, he saw you two kiss goodbye.” Lianna almost breaks subconsciously but fights the urge to by hitting the steering wheel.
“What?!”
“Focus on the road. I don’t want to get in another accident.” The driver sighs, her line of gaze returns to the road, her fingers gripping the steering wheel as she gets herself under control.
“Can we talk about the rest of this once we get home please?”
“Sure.” The two sit in silence with the girl’s music playing as background noise which Marce turns up, creating a barrier so neither of them could talk and the psych major was pretty okay with that. Her mind went back to earlier with Tobias and Colton at IKEA, she thought about how they had a lot of fun and how her and the taller boy’s relationship was finally mended and it was on the track to being better and being greater than their relationship back in Freshman year of High school.
However she tried to think of how Colton saw them, maybe it was one of the truck’s mirrors or maybe he was going off of a whim of what he saw or what he heard from Tobias himself. But that didn’t really matter to the girl who was driving back home, all she knew is that they’re going to have a better relationship than what they did in the past and that’s all she really was happy for. Maybe they would somewhat create they’re very first date since both of them had too much fun for it to be displayed into words, or they would revisit that memory that she remembered earlier within the four days they’ve moved in with her while going to the park.
Who knows what’ll happen but something will happen.
Both Lianna and Marce arrive at home around fifteen minutes later, the younger girl having to help the other since she started to feel a bit light headed. “Christ Lia, why are you acting like this?”
“Because... I don’t actually know.”
“Here,” She unbuckles her seatbelt, opening the door and getting out of the car only to peer her head back in. “I’m going to get Tobias to come out and help you inside, I have to carry my things in alright?”
“Okay.” The girl sits in the car, having enough strength to turn the engine off before seeing little black sparkles clouding her vision. She didn’t know why she was lightheaded but it must’ve been something that’s causing it. Another thought might’ve been that she didn’t take her anxiety meds for the day so that’s why she’s feeling off. Or she was overheating. Any one of those three options could be the cause for it but it all came up to confusion in choosing the correct option.
“Lia? Can you hear me?”
“Y-Yeah.” Tobias opens the driver-side door, unbuckling her seatbelt and putting his hand out to see if she’s able to have enough strength to take it. Lianna stares at his hand before slowly moving hers up to his, having a weak grip on it she tries to get herself up but it just seems that all her strength left her body so she just sits back, tears welling in her eyes as she couldn’t do something so simple.
“Hey, hey, don’t cry, you’re just tired from today’s events and need to rest. Well that and Marce told me that you didn’t take your meds today so you also need to do that.” He puts her hand back on her lap and puts one arm around her back and another around the bends of her knees to try and lift her out of the car, carefully so as to not make her head bang against the infrastructure of the car. “It’s going to be okay Lianna.” The only thing the other could do was nod her head as her lidded eyes continued to stare at the boy who now had her in his arms.
Marce comes back out to grab Lianna’s things and get Juneau from the back before shutting all of the car doors and locking the car. “I didn’t think she’d have such a bad reaction to telling her that Colt knew.”
“So you told her?”
“Yeah, sorry.”
“No it’s okay, at least she was conscious until now.” The girl nods, opening the door for the two of them. The boy takes the love of his life who was in his arms currently up to her room, with the help of Marce and the emotional support of Juneau, they were able to put her in her bed when she finally closed her eyes and fell limp to tiredness.
“Are you going to stay with her?” The medical major asks, turning to see if Juneau was awake, which he was but was laying on his bed, tired from today’s adventure.
“Most likely, I care about her a lot you know.”
“I know you do. But I’m just saying that if you pull the shit that you did eight years ago with the accusations of rape and everything, I won’t be so nice letting you back into her life. However you seem to have matured so I’ll let you have at it.” She looks at the girl and how her breathing was deathly quiet. “She gave you every chance and every bit of hope she had. And you had to ruin it.”
“Yeah... and I still feel terrible about it.”
“I know you do, she’s practically my sister, I’ve known her forever and I’ve known most of her relationships, you were her last and her favorite, she really does love you Tobias.”
“I know, and I love her so much.”
“Still.” Marce starts to backtrack towards the door, seeming as if to grab something that was on the table near the door. “If you do anything stupid, I will not hesitate to dropkick your ass and Colt’s out this door, got it?” The boy swallows hard, nodding towards the girl that came back with two coffee cups, one in each of her hands.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good. Now when she wakes up again, get her some water and her meds, she’s been on a streak of not taking them the last few days.”
“Is that why...”
“That’s why she had that big attack on Friday, all because she couldn’t keep herself calm and didn’t take them that day. I guess I didn’t tell her to take them when we were talking that morning. She has such a terrible schedule in her mind right now that I have to remind her of a lot of things.”
“You seem to take care of her too much.”
“Yeah but she’s spiraled down the last few years so Jacky and I have been helping her while having our own lives and that’s been putting stress on all of us. And then it makes Lia feel bad because she usually doesn’t ask for help with anything and doesn’t know what to do with the help that she’s receiving so it’s hard for her to get used to it.” The boy hums, a wave of guilt washing over him as he knows that it was him that caused a lot of this in the first place.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, well, even though that it is your fault a little bit, it’s also not a lot of your fault. She’s been going through tough times at school as well with working way too hard to keep all of her classes in check that she hasn’t been sleeping great either when it is in session.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Maybe make a little board for her of the reminders she has, I used to do that when we lived together here, but I think I can still find that board again, it really helped her in the first few years of taking those meds.” Marce puts down the coffee cups on the girl’s desk, motioning to the boy to sit on the couch and continue their conversation, or that’s what the boy thought.
“I will.”
“Or you can use this board and write to her, either way all you need to do is to just tell her the things she needs to take on a daily basis. Now I’m going to go downstairs and destress from today and talk to my friends for a little bit, you have fun up here with your girlfriend.”
“We’re not official yet.” He rolls his eyes as he sits down and as Marce leaves the room.
Tobias looks over to Juneau, who had jumped on Lianna’s bed and was sniffing her hair, studying her expression and seems to be putting the dots together. “Junie.”
The dog looks up from the use of the common nickname, seeing the boy and is confused on why he’s using the name that only the girl would use. He smiles and pats the couch, trying to get the animal over to him.
With some slight hesitancy, Juneau jumps off the sleeping girl’s bed and over onto the couch where the boy was. “Hey Ju, how are you?” The dog sits in front of the boy, staring at him with a cocked head.
The boy relaxes and melts into the chair, putting his hand out to the dog before scratching his ears. “Today’s strange June. The love of my life just accepted to be with me again, then I learned of what happened to her within the years and how her mental health has gone down the drain so that she has to have drugs to make her stable. I mean, it’s not bad, I like that she’s getting help to keep those thoughts away.” He inhales, closing his eyes as he moves his hand to scratch the animal’s neck gruff, “I don’t know Juno, I love her and I want to be there and help her with anything and everything just as she helped me and was there for me when I went through multiple depressive episodes and the days that I couldn’t get a hold on life when I didn’t take my ADHD medications. And so, I just want to thank her for everything.”
Juneau moves closer to the boy, putting his head on his lap and sighing, closing his eyes. Tobias smiles, stroking the dog’s fur before feeling some type of tiredness wash over himself.
