I hate walking, I never walked when I had my powers, before it was out of connivance but now I have a new reason to not walk, it was pointless, took up too much time and my legs just hurt the whole time; I felt my breathing get worse as we approached a giant grey building that seemed to impose itself on the wide courtyard that sat at the end of the street we had been walking down.
"I'm glad we get free passes as students" the pathetic human known as Sam seemed to always have something to say since we started walking but for some reason every time I said something he'd look at me and then stick a single finger up at me, I have no clue why humans do this a lot. As we passed through the front door, I saw that there were small gates going through the middle of the room, this must be what humans call a train service station. They each placed a small plastic card on a little pad by each gate which opened long enough for just them to get through, I did the same with the one he had given me and while it seemed easy enough, the gate closed too fast and caught my leg.
The female with the annoying voice looked at me her mouth drawn down, humans were so expressive it was easy to read them, that was good at least "cheapskate" she blurted out poking my face as if it was somehow appropriate for her to touch me, I don't like humans, I specifically don't like this one.
They all laughed as if it was funny, I didn't think so, I just needed to ignore them till we arrived at this learning facility I somehow got wrapped into. I don't know which of the elder council did it but I bet it was the arch elder, he was probably enjoying finding new ways of tormenting me in this lower life form.
Once they had helped me get my leg unstuck from placing my card on the panel again, I followed them into the waiting area as it was called by the signs overhead. It was a strange room and an announcement sounded overhead "alert next shuttle will arrive in one hundred and twenty seconds at gate one to academy district" I looked towards gate one and it was big which was strange for a small shuttle.
"how big is the shuttle" I walked towards the window and looked out to see nothing, and I don't mean black nothing I mean no ground it just opens up into the sky and how can that be "why is the sky below us" I saw clouds drift into the opening on the other side.
"well it wouldn't be much of a floating city if we weren't in the – well sky" Sam was by my side again, as much as he had been ignoring me all morning since leaving the house he seemed to always be there, it was not annoying "oh look there's the shuttle" from the opening a large ship came rising up from bellow it looked massive and as it rose its features came quite clear.
"that's not a shuttle that's an advanced space shuttle" I saw how its hall was built, with no way for any air to escape, even without my superior sight I could see every window looked sealed and the thickness of them could be seen as its windows passed the on I was in front of "you can't be this advanced"
"Where have you been living?" the bothersome female was now on my other side this fact did indeed annoy me to quite some extent "how can this ship seem that advanced when we are standing on a mega sky city"
"Mega sky city?" I turned to look at her, she pointed to the far wall with a map of the city, it looked to be circular which is odd for a human city and it didn't look big enough to earn the title mega city but then I saw it, the size of the cities borders was listed on the map "the city has a two hundred and fifty kilometer diameter"
The ground shook as the ship docked with the station, I looked as the gates opened and the overhead announcements rang out again "shuttle to the academy district has docked at gate one can all passengers please make their way"
The female and younger male both made their way over to the gate but Sam stayed by my side "what is this place" I thought this was going to be like the worlds I've monitored before, this one was far more advanced, almost too advanced for their own good.
"You're in Atlantis the city above the clouds" Sam looked confused "how do you not know?" he must not believe me because being thrown from one world to another doesn't normally allow for me to know where I am.
"I'm not from here" I started "I was brought here against my will"
"wait what" Sam moved closer, I could see his eyes, I thought he was an average human, just any random with normal traits but as I looked into his eyes, I could see they were hazel, deep and dark so that if I didn't look close I wouldn't have seen them as anything other then brown "were you kidnapped" the worry in his voice though amusing wasn't needed, but who knows maybe this could get me where I need to be if he wasn't going to believe me on the actual truth may be lying could get the job done, humans really did feel sorry for those they felt pity for.
"I don't know," I said slowly, making sure to pronounce each word carefully and faining that I didn't know how I arrived, but there was one truth at least, I didn't know where I was – at least in terms of what Earth I was on – that was the truth "and before you ask I don't know who set up for both of us to attend this school thing" another lie, the gatekeepers probably wanted some entertainment by forcing us into situations, the rumours about them were true at least, they were sadistic.
"ok I didn't ask before because everything was just so strange, first I thought you were just a narcissists but then you kissed me and claimed to know things about me" Sam looked worried and that was not good at all, because if he was paying close attention he might see through my fake human emotion "who are you? Really"
"I am Jack Reaper" I start, I need to word my answer carefully, it doesn't help my body responds to stress like a human does "I don't know how I got here" the way he looked at me as I spoke, he didn't believe me; how can humans be so stupid yet are able to catch someone in a lie so easily.
"right" Sam spoke, he drew out the word as if he was stalling for time, but he wasn't believing me for a second, Sam moved closer, he reached out his hand and touched my shoulder lightly, it tingled under his touch as if it was the first time it had ever been touched, I could feel my chest tighten for a moment and then he spoke "we should hurry, we don't want to be late for school," he said with a smile before turning around and heading over to where the others were standing outside the entrance to the shuttle.
What have I gotten myself into, I followed Sam but my mind still couldn't comprehend him in any way, he was mad at me and when he believed I was kidnapped he worried and when I tried to lie he looked at me like I was an idiot before smiling, humans are weird.
