The time went by in a flash and it didn't help that they finished 3 months earlier than expected. On the final day of lessons, Axel and Aerrax mostly had casual conversations.
"What do you intend to do now that you no longer have lessons?", Aerrax asked.
"Spend time with my family of course, the twins are growing up too fast", replied Axel.
"Hmm I see…", said Arrax unenthusiastically.
"But that's not all of course", Axel continued. "Since I can't practice magic, I intend to train my body every chance I get. I'll create a vessel strong enough to host unimaginable power. Those that did me- no, this family wrong… Their days are numbered".
Aerrax looked at the 8-year child in front of him who boldly declared war on the grand duke with a confident and calm expression. Aerrax knew he meant every word and was interested in the future of this child.
In the evening Axel said goodbye to his tutor who was planning on going back to his home country Suziba, the dragonkin kingdom. Aerrax had prior engagements and would stay there for a while. Axel waved goodbye as Aerrax entered the horse-drawn carriage and left.
To the garden Axel went, he had not been there for some time and Yohan followed closely behind. Axel spent the evening in the garden watching the clouds as he did when he was younger and before he knew it, the sun was setting.
“My lord, shall I escort you to dinner?”, said Yohan.
“Hmmm, I’m not that hungry yet” replied Axel.
“His Grace has been worried about you skipping meals, is there a reason for your lack of appetite my lord?”
Yeah, the food in this world kinda sucks… very limited options and almost no flavor. I just have to stuff it down. I’ll have to do something about this if I’m going to live here, Axel thought to himself.
“It’s nothing to worry about Yohan, I’ll go in shortly and besides don’t I always eat my snacks”, said axel.
“Ok my lord but the snacks…”, said Yohan.
“What about the snacks?”, asked Axel.
“Umm, they are incredibly hard to make since they have sugar in them. Sugar is expensive and hard to source. His grace makes them a priority since that is what you eat the most but sooner or later he won’t be able to get it for you”, Yohan said nervously.
“What!?... And you're just telling me this now”, Axel smacks his palm in his face. “I’ll cut out the snacks, it’s not like I have to have them.
“Ah sorry for troubling you my lord, I didn’t know you were unaware of that”, said Yohan.
“It’s fine but what about spices? Do we have those?”, asked Axel.
“It’s the same for those, farming is just a difficult job with monsters seeking to devour everything. Spices are also expensive and his grace considers them a luxury like sugar”, replied Yohan.
“I see”, said Axel. In time I’ll use my knowledge of my previous life to better this one but for now, I must focus on being able to protect myself and my family. Those things will come after, he thought.
After some time Axel finally decided to head inside, he was just in time as the meal was presented. He had dinner with his father and Wendi tended to the twins.
Axel couldn’t train with magic and his father was hesitant to train him with the sword because he could unconsciously activate mana while training. He decided that plain exercising would be enough to get him somewhat ready for fighting when the time came.
The very next day Axel began doing as he said he would and began exercising. He wanted a workout partner and encouraged Yohan to join him, Yohan was more than happy to comply. Axel spent the next few years bonding with his family and training his body for the day he was to go out into the world.
Every 3 months someone from the main family would come to check up on Axel and his cousins to see if they were sticking to the rules and not practicing magic. This went on for years until the day they turned 17 and were allowed to start practicing magic.
