Haha my husband’s and my relationship is very similar. He hasn’t felt like his parents were emotionally available since he was 6. They essentially neglected him after his siblings were born. It got worse after they realized he had a learning disability and would probably never be the doctor they wanted him to be. So they just passed their dream onto his brother. He always thought of himself as the “black sheep” of the family. But my family loves him so much that it makes him uncomfortable. My mom texts him and asks if he wants anything from the store and he freaks out. My family’s not perfect either. But at least they’re supportive in a way that his never was.
