Leith's pov
I have his number!! I can't believe it! I really do have his number, how in the world did I get this lucky?!
"What was that earlier?" I get scared off by a smirking Sarah.
"Oh gosh, you scared me, Sarah!"
"Sorry, but I had to. What were you thinking about?"
"It's nothing."
"Something tells me that you were thinking about a certain someone." She wiggles her eyebrows.
"What makes you say that?"
"Hm, I saw you smiling. Besides who else could be occupying your mind?"
"Wait was I smiling...?"
"Yeah and?"
"Oh geez, I must have looked like a total creep earlier."
"I mean you kinda were." I slap her.
"Ow, what was that for?!"
"That what's you get for calling me a creep."
"You're so mean. How did I become friends with you?"
"Hey, I'm back." We both turn around and notice a panting Mattie.
"Hey, where were you?! Wait why are you out of breath like that?!"
"Calm down I'm not dying or anything. I was running to get here."
"Why?" He nervously chuckles.
"That's a story for another day."
"But I want to know!" Mattie and I chuckle.
"Nah, I'm not telling you." Mattie smirks and Sarah glares at him.
"Doesn't matter because we have good news for you! It looks like something happened to Leith!"
"Oh yeah spill the beans!" Mattie gets all interested too:
"Oh uh, you know earlier?" Ugh, why am I being awkward now? I'm really awkward in love, aren't I?
"Yeah?"
"After you guys left us alone, we talked for a little and he gave me his number!" Oh well, I can afford to be all excited, it's Kenton of all people, not a random guy.
"Wait really?! That's amazing news! Oh uh yeah that's great!" We both look at Mattie with a skeptical look.
"What?"
"It's nothing."
"Then please continue Leith."
"Well that's about it..."
"What? How is that just it? How can your love life be more boring than mine!" We both look at him skeptical about him.
"Oh uh yeah, I don't have a love life..."
"Huh? Then what did you mean when you said my love life is more boring than yours?"
"It's nothing."
"Omg, Mattie don't tell me you found yourself a crush!!"
"Huh me...no...what are you talking about?" It's clear as day he's lying and he's even blushing a bit.
"Oh well be free to tell us when you're ready to. Just know I can't wait to hear all of it!"
"Why don't you get a girlfriend yourself? Then you'd stop being so invested in our love life."
"Hey, you!!" People are looking at us, I need to put a stop to this.
"Stop! No need for that. How about we calm down and prepare ourselves for the next class?"
"That's a great idea actually Leith."
"Then let's go over there. I'm dying to go sit down. I'm tired of walking all around."
"Stop being such a b*tch Mattie."
"But what? I ran to get here, you know."
"Sure and that's your own fault," I say and Mattie pouts.
"Ok fine let's go."
—————
Ugh, I can't focus on my math homework. Why do I have to keep thinking about him? Is he gonna text me or? Nah, he probably wouldn't. I was just lucky. He isn't actually interested in me. I mean he doesn't have time to text someone like me, right?
But why did he talk to me? I'm still confused about it. Does he remember? Nah, no way he does. He was drunk but why did he talk to me and even ask for my number? Gosh, love is killing me already! I hate games like these!
At this point, it's completely useless to do this homework when I can't focus. It's not like I have to give it in tomorrow. Huh? Is someone texting me? Who could it be? I take my phone and look at the text notification. Wait what? He actually texted me.
Kenton: Hey it's Kenton, you know the guy from earlier.
Leith: Why are you texting me?
Ugh, why am I so dumb? He'll think I'm mad that he's texting me.
Kenton: Just thought I should say hi.
Leith: Oh
Kenton: WAYD?
Leith: What does that word mean?
Kenton: Sorry, I thought you would have known what it meant. It means what are you doing?
Leith: I'm trying to do the math homework.
Kenton: Same
Leith: Cool
Kenton: Do you have difficulty focusing on your homework?
Leith: Yeah, how'd you know?
Kenton: I can't focus too.
Leith: Oh
Kenton: Are you any good at math?
Leith: Kinda?
Kenton: Cool. How about we do the homework together?
Wait what?
Leith: You want to do the homework together, like tomorrow?
Kenton: I might as well just call you now.
Leith: Ok
Oh crap, I can't believe he's calling me and why did I agree like a fool?! What on earth is going on?!
Kenton: Hey
Leith: Hi...
I hear him chuckle on the other line.
Kenton: Why so shy?
Leith: Huh? What?
Kenton: I don't bite.
Leith: I know
Kenton: Gosh, relax, you can be laid-back with me.
Leith: Yeah sorry, I'm not good with new people.
Kenton: It's fine, I figured you were the shy type.
Shy type? I'm not shy, I'm just introverted but I won't tell him that. Any compliment from Kenton can make me giddy and I don't know why.
Leith: Are we going to do the homework?
Kenton: Oh yeah! Totally forgot! So you were doing which number before I texted you?
Leith: Number 8
Kenton: Wow same! Hm, show me what you've done so far.
Leith: What do you mean by that?
Kenton: I wanna see if on the right track.
Leith: But like how?
Kenton: You can like open your camera and I can see.
Leith: Oh...ok
I open my camera and he does too. Then I see his handsome face and then there's me, just plain average.
Kenton: Nice to see your face but can you like flip the camera's angle, so I can see your homework?
Leith: Oh yeah sorry.
He chuckles. He's so handsome when he smiles like that, gosh I'm really falling for him.
Kenton: No worries.
I flip my camera angle and I show him what I've done so far. He does too afterwards.
Kenton: Gosh, I was really not on the right track. You're a genius! You should totally help with math!
Leith: Oh, I'm not really that smart.
Kenton: Nonsense! You're a genius in math!
Leith: I guess I'm good in math then.
Kenton: Yeah, you totally are but can't we both agree that doing homework together in person is way better?
Leith: Yeah, it's less troublesome.
Kenton: Let's do it in person next time.
Leith: Wait, you want to do your homework with me some time again?
Kenton: Yeah and?
Leith: No, it's nothing. I'm fine with that.
Kenton: Good! I'll text ya next time!
I can't believe this! Kenton thinks I'm smart and he wants to do homework with me. Holy I must be dreaming! How can this be a reality?
—————
I thought Kenton was gonna hang out after this but no, he was in the mood to talk to me, we talked for 10 more minutes before I had to hang up because I had to eat dinner, I can't believe that!
It felt surreal when we talked on the phone last night and we almost finished the math homework together, though there are a few questions left as Kenton didn't understand them.
I can't believe this is happening to me! I thought it was over once I told him I liked him! It seems like it didn't face him I guess. No, it's more like it didn't bother him. I bet he gets confessions all the time but wait I'm forgetting that he might actually not remember my confession. Hm, I can't tell if I want it to be the case.
"Hey, you're still in your head again. What? What happened? Do you have any updated news about Kenton and you?!"
"What? Geez, I think Mattie is right you truly need to get yourself a girlfriend."
"But why should I? If I get to hear what's happening between you and your crush it's more than enough for me."
"Are you sure about it?"
"What? Do I really need to get myself a girlfriend?"
"Yes," We both say at the same time. Wow, it's pretty rare those days that Mattie and I agree on something.
"Aw, why are you two such jerks?"
"What? I'm not a jerk. You should check yourself first." Sarah's eyes grow wide in shock.
"You!!"
"Calm down. No need to fight again. Look everyone is looking at us. We don't want to attract some attention to us would we?"
"Fine..."
"But seriously did something happen between you and Kenton?"
"Why do you always assume something happened?"
"Oh come on, don't tell me you didn't try to text him?!" Sarah says shocked.
"More like Kenton texted him first," Mattie says and we both look at him skeptically but end up letting it go.
"Yeah, Kenton actually texted me, we even did our homework together via phone."
"You did what?!" Sarah says in disbelief and Mattie seems unfaced. Weird but okay.
"Don't mind her talking. I think we heard enough about Sarah."
"Matthew Willis!" Sarah says in disbelief.
"Nope, that won't work on me."
"So you did your homework with him? Did he tell you something else?" Sarah asks as she usually does.
"Um no?"
"Oh ok then."
"What? Were you expecting him to tell me something else? Wait do you know something I don't?"
"What? No."
"Hm, sure."
"Hey look," Mattie says.
"Huh? Where?"
"Look over there." He points towards a table in the lobby area. Wait is that..? Oh, it's Kenton... and his friends.
"Look, your hubby is there, go talk to him."
"What? Have you lost your mind, Mattie?! Why would I go talk to him if he's with his friends..."
There Kenton seems to be having the fun of his life with his friends Sam, Jack, Oliver and other girls like Kaitlyn. Yeah, I'll never be a part of that cool popular guy. They are at the top for a reason and I don't belong there. I can never dream to be a part of them, it'll never work.
"I know that you're too shy to go talk to him but still look he's staring at you. Trust me he'll want to talk to you for sure." Is he staring at me?
I look at his table and then notice that Mattie is actually right, he's staring our way, wait is he looking at me? Oh! We made eye contact, how awkward. Sarah smiles at that but doesn't say anything.
"But..."
"No buts. Go on."
Mattie pushes me towards a certain direction completely forgetting Sarah. Ha! Take that, Sarah! Speaking of her, she glares at us from afar.
"Hey" They all look at us confused.
"Hey, what can we do for you? What's your name again...oh yeah Matthew?" Oliver asks.
"Well, you see that person next to me would like to speak to a certain Kenton Miller?" Omg, I feel like I'm gonna die of embarrassment! Why is Mattie doing that!?
"Oh sure Kenton that guy wants to speak to you do you know him?" One of his friends I believe Sam winks at Kenton.
"Yeah, I know him he's Liam."
"That's his name?"
Seriously it kinda pains me to see that his friends definitely know who I am. Like can't they stop grinding at him? Like I get it you guys know something I don't. Kenton gets up from his place and comes towards me.
"So what is it? It seems like you want to talk to me. You could've texted me you know?" Oh crap...now I feel even worse.
"Liam didn't have to text you. I think it was urgent?"
Ugh, why must Mattie talk on behalf of me? Oh goodness, it feels so weird hearing him call me Liam but he kinda has to in front of the others.
"Urgent you say?" He turns towards me as he smiles curiously.
"Hm, why didn't you tell me sooner?" He smiles. Oh, I think that was directed towards me.
"It's not urge.."
"You guys should go speak somewhere else. I don't think you want your friends to listen to you guys right?"
Oh gosh, why is Mattie smirking like that? I swear does he know those people? Wait, did he already know who Kenton is?
"Yeah, you're right."
We leave further away from the table. Of course, it attracts attention. Ugh, is this what it feels like to be popular?
"So what was that about earlier?"
"It's nothing...My friend was just being annoying."
"Hm ok, what is it you wanted to tell me, you have something to tell me, right?" I panic and think about the first logical thing in mind.
"Oh, uh, I was wondering when you wanted to finish to math homework? Um, you said you wanted to finish it together sometime.
"I was gonna text you about it but I totally forgot but how about we do it now? It's lunchtime. I already finished eating and it seems to be the same for you."
"Oh, ok, yeah, I'm not busy right now."
"How about we go outside to do it."
"Isn't it too cold outside...?"
"I'm sure we'll be fine. We should take advantage of the weather today before it starts to get freezing cold outside in a few weeks."
"Yeah, you're right. Let me go get my coat and my homework."
"Wait, I'll come with you."
"What? Don't you need a coat you'll be freezing like that."
"No, it's fine I have a hoodie tied to my waist." I look around his waist and indeed notice said red hoodie.
"Oh sorry, I didn't notice you had a hoodie.."
"It's fine it's not your fault. Nobody notices it anyway so you're not the only one."
"Oh ok, let's go now or else we won't have time to do our homework together."
"Sure" He smiles and my heart skips a beat.
—————-
"So do you usually do homework on a lunch break or?" Why does he always have such a charming smile on all the time?
"No, not usually why?"
"Just wondering." He smiles.
"Um, what about you? Do you usually do homework on lunch break? I bet you don't because..." He chuckles.
"I usually don't but I'm making an exception for you."
"Oh"
"What?"
"Nothing"
"I was thinking this could become our thing. What do you say?" Wait what?
"Well, are you sure you want to waste your lunchtime doing homework with me?"
"Yeah, why not, I need a smart guy to help me." Smart guy...
"Then okay." He gives me a small smile.
"You were right it is quite cold today. Usually, it's not that chilly at this time of the year. Do you think we'll get snow in January like last year?"
"Maybe?"
"Oh come on give me a yes or no answer."
"Then yes?"
"Ok, I'll accept that."
"We should continue working on this."
"Right..."
"But we don't have to if you don't want to. It's not like I want to continue."
"Oh, you don't want to continue our homework?"
"No...what's the fun in that?" I try to sound cool.
"You're funny, I like that."
"Um, thanks?"
"Sense we won't be continuing this piece of trash, how about we get to know each other since you'll be my homework buddy from now on."
"Oh ok then."
"What are you gonna do for Thanksgiving weekend?"
"Ah, I'll probably spend it with my parents, my brother and my sister."
"Wait you have a brother and a sister that's so cool. Younger brother?"
"Yeah, he's 14. Actually, he's a freshman in this school."
"Wait, how come I've never seen you speak to him?"
"How do you know that?"
"Well...I've been somewhat looking at you..."
"Wait what? No way!" I become flustered at this confession.
"Yeah...it's kind of embarrassing to say that..."
"No, it's fine."
"Thanks, I was sure you'd be freaked out by that."
"No, I mean I sometimes stare at you too..."
"You do? How come I've never seen you look at me?"
"Ah um."
"Never mind, change of subject. Is your sister older or younger?"
"Younger..."
"Oh well, I have an older brother."
"What's his name? Did he go at this school?"
"Yeah, his name is Nolan but I doubt you remember him."
"Hm, I can't recall anything."
"That's sad I thought people would remember him. Sure he wasn't nearly as popular as me but still he's a Miller." I chuckle.
"Is it a Miller thing or?"
"I don't know maybe?"
"Ugh, you!!" He laughs and I blush over the fact I'm like myself around him.
"I like this side of you. Though, I wasn't too sure if you would ever stop avoiding me."
Oh crap, why is he talking about that? Of course, he couldn't have forgotten the other day, right?
